"Normal" deltas require additional spending for the linear motion, I guess this is one of the reasons I was looking for alternatives.
The linear motion can be done cheaply with things like V-slot extrusions and wheels. If you follow the Deltabot Google group, there's a recent thread from Johann sharing his printable recirculating ball bearing that rides in a T-slot extrusion. I'm p

QuoteDustI believe that the newer 32 bit boards, smoothie board and azteeg x5, also use this sort of trick and get full usb (2?) speeds (not confirmed)
The Azteeg X5 with Smoothie firmware actually presents the regular interface as a USB tty device, and also presents the on-board micro-SD card as a USB thumb drive at the same time through the same USB cable. It acts as it's own SD card adapter

Are you planning to breadboard the stepper motor drivers and other stuff? Personally, I'd just buy a RAMPS 1.4 board and plug it on top of your Mega 2560 before trying to replicate it from scratch.....

If you're not using any glue or other stick enhancers, try throwing a magazine on top of the bed to insulate it during warmup. Also, if your heatbed is one of the dual-voltage ones, make sure that you followed the wiring directions for 12V and not 24V.....

When I bought my E3D, MTW cautioned me that in their experiences the E3D was problematic with PLA. I bought a spool of their PLA with the E3D. That PLA spool is nearly empty now, and my E3D has not jammed once. 1.75mm filament, 0.4mm nozzle, long Bowden tube, 6mm retraction @ 100 mm/second using MTW's geared Bowden extruder. There may have been problems with earlier E3D's and PLA, but mine ha

My $0.02 is to go to Repetier's web site and use the web config tool to build your first firmware. The directions for installing the required compiler tool chain are pretty good, as are the troubleshooting steps. If you decide to go with Marlin later, the same tool chain is used to compile/install it.
The only gotcha that I don't know if it was fixed in the latest release is that Repetier's we

QuoteblbergesonI didn't have to change anything in the pins.h file to get the LCD working. But that may be necessary to get the SD card working on the LCD. The microSD card worked on the motherboard just not on the LCD.
My understanding from the first post is that MiggyMan is running RAMPS, which doesn't include a Micro-SD. I'm guessing that you have the SainSmart Megatronics 2.0 / 12864 packa

QuoteCygnusX1985Yes, I adjusted my stepper drivers with a multimeter, which other way do you recommend?
You did it correctly. People who don't have a multimeter try to do it by counting potentiometer turns or by ear as the motors run, and flying by the seat of the pants usually winds up biting them in the end.

On my Delta printer, the Y axis points right at one of the towers. During a straight Y axis move from the center of the bed (x=0, y=0, z=0), the two towers *not* on the Y axis should move in parallel. If they don't, check the micro-step jumpers to see that they all have metal inside and are installed. I'm going to assume that you adjusted your stepper driver voltages with a multimeter, which i

Another thing to check for the steppers not moving is that your 12V supply is on. The electronics can draw 5V from the USB port and appear to be working, but the steppers and heaters need the external 12V rail(s) to be powered.....

QuoteBillCI notice that there are 4 sets of pins underneath where the step stick goes. Do these need to be jumpered?
They are the micro-stepping jumpers, and yes, three out of four sets of pins need to be jumpered for each stepper. SainSmart doesn't ship the required jumpers with their boards for some reason, so you'll have to source them locally. In the States, Radio Shack has them in packs o

Which version of Marlin are you referring to? There seem to be more forks of Marlin than I can keep track of, and each one adds different features. The Android firmware used in smart phones has the same fragmentation problem. Someone added Z-probing for Delta printers that everyone agrees works better than Repetier's implementation, which is the latest feature causing a mass migration among th

Firmware - mainstream and related support
I can show you a melted pile of PEEK from a thermistor accident that shows why the E3D is far superior to the J-Head.
The only problem with the E3D is that some sources say that it is not good with PLA. I have run almost a full spool of PLA through mine with no issues, so maybe it was a problem with an older version that has subsequently been fixed?????

For problem #1, there was a long thread here a few months ago regarding endstop wiring. Read it TO THE END, as there was some mistaken information posted that could not be deleted. If the Megatronics board loses power when you trip an endstop switch, it is mis-wired and shorting out. Don't test it again until you fix it, or you will blow the board!!!!!

For the majority of the users, all that they care about is where to get the binary executable file and how much it costs (still free in this case).
A few people think that having the source code used to generate that binary file available for inspection and modification is important. I have no intention to modify the code, but like the idea of open-source so that I know (hopefully!) there's som

The question is, what's the point of having localized pages beyond a picture of the facility and pointers to the printers available. What's the difference between a Wallace printing at PSU and a Wallace printing in the UK, in Japan or India?
The page that you cited met your example of a localized page, IMO. The difference is that users of the Wallace printers in the UK, Japan, or

BTW., the page which triggered the discussion is this one:
I suspect that this sentence from the above page is your answer - "Our classroom RepRap printers usually use PLA of 3mm." My guess is that the Penn State folks have created localized information for their own reference, in this case where students should buy 3mm filament in the USA that are compatible with their specific

Out of curiosity, what retraction speed and distance are you running? I am at about 700mm with my 1.75mm filament Bowden tube, and running 6mm retraction @ 100mm/second to stop the E3D from oozing. These settings seemed a little bit excessive based on slicer help tips and other people's posted experiences, but they cleaned the ooze problem right up.....

My personal thoughts on 1/32..."measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, cut it with a chainsaw." However, as Jay said, it is time to move on with newer technology. I am glad that he is posting stuff here in the Delta section, since my own feeling is that this section needs more technical discussion and less support threads for the 3DR.
I've only been tinkering with RepRap stuff fo

Wanted to ask, though - can you tell me or direct me to an explanation of why the X5 prompts you to sell an existing RAMPS setup? I know the X5 is cheaper, but beyond that I am just curious about it, no other agenda. I see that, as well as others like a Melzi that looks significantly cheaper, but I have no experience or idea about all the consequences of such a choice.
