With any filament extruder you will need to discard the first few feet of filament. The diameter won't be consistent until the conditions of extrusion reach a steady state.
QuoteIanJohnsonOnce it has started to coil on the floor, is the diameter consistent?
No it isn't . i am getting at this moment with current setup from 1.68mm-1.76mm

The lyman uses a 4.5mm nozzle.
i didn't knew that. what diameter the filastruder use ? and if you don't mind asking what do you use?
when i started i started with 1.2 going up to 1.5 that i drilled today. in the past i even used 1.35 1.25 1.45. but i saw that this is not so important as it changes as the temp change .
anyway i ll see today the 1.5 and some changes i ve don

Just move your extruder to a higher position or make a smaller nozzle would help in getting the correct diameter. Lots of info to be found on the filastruder forum about this
i had it closer to the floor and then i raise it up a bit. it didn't help . also i had 1.35 hole and then i went to 1.7. that didn't help either. the filastruder forum doesn't have diy builts ( or at leas

It's a DUET 0.6 from replikeo.
Why would they put a 4 pin header instead of a screw terminal if it's meant for a hotend?
Has anyone wired the hotend to those pins?
probably for been capable of sending more amps. Anyway i have used two for positive and two for negative. If i can recall the two closest to the E0 temp are the positive ones and the other two are the negative.

Guys i know that this is not the proper place to ask but i am desperate so i could use some help. Getting to the point. Last september i ve started to build my do it myself filament extruder . The first machine was a bad one so two months ago i started a new one using a lathe this time.
I am able to extrude some filament but at this moment i am stack as i cant produce the right diameter. Explai

in my case i put the filament for an hour or more at 50c in the oven . that is more than enough for me and that did solved all the problems i had with clogs. i could put it in a higher temp but i dont want to as we use that oven for our food too.

did you checked the printer itself. it seems like a problem to the moving parts ( i imagine it would be belt) . it seems it is loose and every time it jumps a teeth ....!

from my little experience this is a bad filament or your extruder is losing steps..! try and measure with a caliper the diameter of ur filament.

Also, I'm fairly certain this wasn't due to temperature as I'm printing PLA at 190C. I was printing at .25mm layer height with Slic3r.
did you dry the filament before you use it ? check this out in case you get more clogs.

Hi all!
I recently just updated my melzi board on my Reprappro Mendel to the duet board. It's all working, moving and heating fine the z probe that i bought is also working.
However as I have the older machine that uses the end stops to home the x and Z my Mendel lacks the bit that breaks the beam on the x axis.
What I need is to deactivate the probe and make the printer home it

First of all chrishamm thanks a lot for ur work and especially the web control. I have installed it today the way you told ( uploading the zip file) and i am still running some connection problems. This time it is even worst as there are some cases that i cant connect through one of my w7 pc.
I am running firefox 44.0 and opera . opera is more stable but on the mozilla i cant connect at all. Un

what materials for the enclosure?

i agree with the filament sensor integration . to take it a step further i saw there are some filament width sensors that can work with ramps taking on the fly the filament width and settign the extrusion scale according to the reading.
At least think about it on ur new board.

So I decided that driving to the makerspace to use the lathe was more of a hassle than it was worth. Since I have a drill press I wondered... can I make a nozzle on the drill press?
i ve tried this twice . both on stainless steel . i tried to copy one of my rpp nozzle when i broke one. The one was a 4mm stainless steel bolt and the other was 5mm stainless steel bolt. On the 4mm

Look what I made!
i think there is something wrong ( maybe need calibration ) with ur extruder first . on the other hand when i am getting prints that hhave this effect most common use is something is loose on the frame. yesterday i ve found that i haven't tied enough my y axis rods. just do a check .

How do I do that? I thought the web interface was written into the firmware..
in the web interface at the settings tab you can see what firmware and web interface you are using. if you want them to be replaced you have to download some files and place them in the "www" folder.

- Editing the config.g file and uploading it via FTP. This have the advantage that you always have an up to date copy of your configuration file in your computer.
To log in FTP, you shall use the machine name as defined in the config.g file, for the user name any name e.g. 'whatever' and the password as defined in the config.g file (the leading 'P' is not part of the name nor password)

first of all can you connect through usb and pronteface ? secondly did you changed the gateway too or only the ip of the printer? does ur utp cable work? when you plug it in the printer does the leds on the utp port switch on ?
you can edit the config file through the web interface.

thanks guys for ur replies. David the printer that i am talking about has been bought from rpp and it is a mendel. The steppers ( probably my mistake i wasn't clear enough ) in normal ambient temp run cool. Ok maybe the z axis one are hotter than the others but still cool enough.
The problem showed up with ambient temp 40-50 . At that time all the steppers were hot ( you barely could tough them

Guys i dont have an enclosed printer but the place that i have the printer is small so i can heat this up easily and keeping the printer at the top of the place gives me a similar result . But the other days i was printing i touched the z steppers and they were hot enough . So i was wondering what do u guys ( the ones that using enclosed printers ) about that . in a big print is it possible for t
