Printing issues ...
No matter if you use mgn12 or SBR12 guides, I recommend trying the parallel bar method. It stabilizes a cantilevered bed pefectly.
See here for more details.

Controlling 5 axis is not the problem, but do you have a slicer that fits the 5-axis machine? (eg. for laser engraving a semi-sphere )

Very interesting indeed !
I'd like to ask how do the DC motors produce torque feeling? You make them run against the encoder-direction with low current?
Is the footpedal self centering? How about the original?

Look what I made!
Since the last Sojus start failed, it got pretty quiet around Astro-Alex and the future of ISS. Is there a news embargo going on?
If any of you follow them on social media, maybe you want to share your bits of information here?

It would be interesting to try a Vinyl foil that isn't selfadhesive and use 3M thermal tape instead

Cura isn't open source, but there are other slicers where you can study their source code. (eg. slic3r )
I guess it's a combination of trackwidth x layerheight, e-steps and acceleration/momentary speed. Then count in extrusion factors or mixing ratios and such...

I wonder what was gassing out? The adhesive or the Vinyl itself? Maybe a better adhesive would change things.
Did you apply the Vinyl with soapwater? Maybe there was trapped water starting to boil?

QuoteThe reason you'd do this over just using a belt as a rack and a pulley as a pinion is tooth engagement. A pulley running along a belt as a rack and pinion is no different to how the belt in a regular belt drive comes in tangentially.
OK, I take back my former comment about 'the second belt is obsolete'.
Now I rather think of using a closed loop belt around idlers placed on the stepper moto

An island made of garbage for rich and super-rich people? C'mon, think again.
They rather buy a yacht and anchor in Monaco than living on a island without international airport. (btw: would it be possible to land a passenger-airplane on such island?)
As I wrote before: It's the lawless community like drug syndicates who'd invest in offshore plantages.
Interesting point to pay fishers for by-cat

Do you try to probe the bed while heating it?
Are your homing endstops accurate?
Does your mechanic run without binding or backlash/play?

In Cura/preferences you can check the box 'Scale big parts', but IDK if it tells you the true scale ratio. It maybe shows 83% scale, where it really was 82.6789%
It is safer to manually scale down the parts with the same ratio to make them fit together afterwards.

Don't worry about the coil voltage. Most people use 80% of max. current and calculate Vref accordingly.

Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
RADDS + Marlin4Due might work, but i have no personal experience with this combo.
There is also a brandnew Ramps board in the pipeline, which should work with 8bit and 32bit controllers.
Don't know if it launched already.

The G21 error is not the cause for the gaps. Maybe there is missing something in your slicers startcode? ( like a semikolon before a comment )
But I also doubt it's wrong nozzle height.
If you hear it plop, it is most likely moisture. It seems 2 hours in the oven wasn't enough. ( I'm not an expert in drying filament )
When you adjust nozzle height, you probably have to use 'M500' to store the ne

Those crazy Canadians puffed away all their weed in a few days!
That gave me an idea how to fund a project like the floating plastic kontinent. Just use it to plant weed. A small island at the Californian coast will do for starters
Plenty of sun there and legal when you stay out off the 3-mile zone.

We've seen a few approaches to build pick & place machines with polar ( radial? ) Delta geometry.
Marcs ( M_Xeno ) remarks about the complexity of building precise stuff with Hylite is a bit discouraging, but I see a huge (weight) benefit to build one_piece polar arms with Hylite.
IMHO the polar Delta is interesting for 3D printing too. Considering the chance that, without the need for verti

Using the belt as rack&pinion is interesting for CNC, but I wouldn't like the moving mass of the stepper on a 3D printer.
Any chance to drive it with a geared remote drive like Zesty nimble or Flex3drive? Or would their rotating shafts cause more problems? ( torsional backlash or whatever)
BTW: Why do they need the second belt anyway? A drivepulley without collar would lock into the glued b

QuoteHow exactly do I calculate the length I need?
You can find 'rules of thumb' calculations here, like the 20°-rule to specify the rod length.
With longer rods you loose some printheight, but gain overall 'peace of mind' regarding max. carrier speed and precision.

QuoteIt seems to me that 300€ is a bit too much for a mechanical kit only.
That statement of mine was more an observation than a judgement. The first 65 kits were gone in no time ( for 200-250€ ) but after that, business is pretty slow.
It's a pity that a cheap material like Hylite isn't able to perform well without exorbitant quality control.
Pushing a technology to it's limits is dangerous f

I'm starting to wonder what's the actual goal of this campaign? Why 40k€?
Is it just a test balloon to figure out what people are willing to pay? It seems to me that 300€ is a bit too much for a mechanical kit only.
And no one seems to be interested in the Tri-Zatsit... ( due to high shipping cost? )
The Tri-Zatsit made me think if there's a way to make them cooperate with each other, but that'

After changing the e-steps, you can send 'M500' to store the new value permanently.
If that doesn't work, change the start code in your slicer.

In your case, you won't be able to use the dual idlers as tensioners. You'd have to use two stationary idlers and two moveable idlers.
A simple rule is: all belt segments that change length have to be 'true'.

Z-axis steps depend on leadscrew pitch and step angle. The default 4000 z-steps relate to 0.8mm pitch ( M5 leadscrew ) and 1.8 stepper.
You could disconnect the leadscrews and test the motors without load.
Regarding Vref: you should be able to read the value of the shunt resistors. ( or make an educated guess )
Here's an example of their location:
