I gave two talks in the last month locally and I collected all the slides i could find on my first google search, but since it wasnt a specially engineering educated crowd I had to keep more general than most of the slides from the reprapwiki link anyway.

i just found these guys at sparkfun, the VL6180 distance sensor might just be a interesting way to add positional feedback into a reprap printer, anyone else out there have any thoughts.?

one trick i saw some time ago was to ad very small holes or slots to the print, around the spots where you want more material printed, the slicer would then go around them making that area much denser.

this guy.
i must have had strange luck with mine, most all of my issues with this extruder have been user error, or forgetting to tighten things up after a lot of use.

You my friend Are Brave for asking that here.
I suggest looking at the wiki under suppliers. There are Many good printers at that price from lulzbot to makergear and many others

the dilemma i face with sites like this, is that really i invest into the product, but after i really have none to little recourse if they don't deliver, i have been very lucky with my support on kickstarter, i did get my pebble, and my freesoc, but lately i always tend to think about oculus rift when they got bought out by facebook.
ya its different when ya put in 50-100 bucks, but i think if y

Do we have a designated part of the forum for these kinda issues.?
But at the same time this area will get the most eyes. If we do start a new section on the forums can we keep it close to general so it is easy to see new posts.

i use sketchup and designspark mechanical mainly, though i am leaning much towards designspark lately, the biggest thing for me seems to be what i am trying to make.
there ain't no way in hell i will ever model a person or animal, i can do bricks really really well...lol
oh ya if you use sketchup, look into the plugins for it, it has some amazing plugins.

if it is a thermocouple you will need to wire it into a chip or a circuit to read it, arduinos are not able to read them directly. like a thermistor.
though i got to admit that the PT100 throws me off a bit, that is another type of sensor, that i am still looking for a chip to read, seeing how i have 20 of them to find a use for...lol but hey the ones i have are a nice stainless enclosed sensor.

i would have to say go with the cement board, thought it is not light, and i am not sure of the best way to frame it, that would buy you the most time, 2 layers of 1/2 drywall will buy you 30min of fire rating, i think. if i remember right, you could even look into some intumescent paints too wiki intumescent, so what kinda level of paranoid are you after any how.?

or for that matter stick to the same .1" pin spacing so that you could use a normal perfboard / protoboard. i always found that choice odd.
