Howdy,
I just put up a tutorial on my blog detailing the installation of a rear cooling fan on my MakerGear Reprap Prusa Mendel.
Originally I only had a front mounted fan cooling the filament as it printed. I observed that when printing objects with sharp overhangs, the overhangs at the rear weren't being cooled at the same rate as the ones at the front. I installed a small fan at the back of

General Mendel Topics
Hey Everyone,
I volunteer at the Innovation Lab at my local city library focusing on 3D Printing, and I get asked by people all the time if and how they can go from their 2D drawing or logo to a 3D model suitable for 3D Printing.
So I've put together a step by step tutorial which I thought some people here might also find useful. The tutorial uses Inkscape (open source vector graphics editor)

Thanks ttsalo, I didn't know about the z-jerk speeds, so I'll try modifying my firmware to your suggestions.
For comparison, my current settings are:
Z MAX_FEEDRATE: 7 mm/s
Z MAX_ACCELERATION: 50 mm/s
Z JERK: 0.4 mm/s
Good suggestion on the extruder gearing issue too. I was reading Brazen Artifice's blog post on the issue, and had some success with lower retraction speeds, however I will work

Hi,
I have had similar problems with connecting Pronterface to my RAMPS board, both times they have been due to interference with my USB connection. On one occasion I was using a cheap USB extension cable which wouldn't carry the signal at the higher (250000) baud rate, and the other is when I turn on an old fluorescent desk lamp I have sitting nearby. Anytime I turn that on, the connection to

Hi there,
I have had my Prusa Mendel printer up and running reliably for some 6 months now. I have been steadily improving, upgrading and recalibrating my printer with corresponding increases in print quality and accuracy, however I am still having problems with blobbing on layer start/finish. This is getting troublesome as I am trying to print interfacing parts, and I end up with a vertical li

Thanks Sound! I have used 0.8.4 now and it slices and prints now! Thanks for the great work
(I've also since found the github issues list, so I'll look there first in the future)

Just following this up now that the print has finished.
The print went fine, however when the print finished, the additional g-code to turn the print head/build platform heaters off, fan off, and home the X/Y axis and turn off the motors wasn't executed.
This wasn't a problem with gcode generated by the previous version (0.8.2) and the additional gcode settings were left untouched.

Hi,
I just updated Slic3r from a working 0.8.2 and had the following error.
Whilst slicing a model with slightly modified settings that I used in 0.8.2, it was running through the 'slicing/generating infill/etc' process when and Error window came up with:
"Exiting subroutine via last at
c:/....Pronterface/Slic3r/lib/std/Slic3r/Print.pm line 571."
A gcode file was generated, and I'm running it
