I have been away from my printer (makerfarm Prusa i2 + Printrboard + Rep-FW v0.71) for quite some time. I received a new j-head for xmas so I am trying to update my software and machine a bit. I feel like I did the first day I had the machine since I have forgotten so much, lol..
I went to the tool, started inputting values while looking in my current FW v0.71 and soon became nervous I was pull

I myself didn't have any problems with Freecad in the sense of bugs or software issues. My problem was the first tutorial I looked at drove me nuts b/c there was no explanation as to why the person was doing what they were doing. It was basically a screen capt-video of them using it, nothing more (no audio, no narration). Trying to follow it and pause / play just aggravated me into moving on to t

I just took a look at Alibre Design PE (haven't downloaded the trial, just watched some videos) and it looks great. Playing with the trial will be the next step. I started searching for a place to buy it and the prices/info just added more questions though..
Alibre Design PE (according to their website) $199
if you know of a cheaper place lemme know
Am I reading this right..

Since I got my Prusa built I have been trying to get a handle on all the software for creating crap to print. I have used Sketch-up with the stl exporter plugin and it has worked out ok for the random stuff I been making. Sketch-up was an easy out for me since I have used it for years to slap together plans for wood working and stuff, but I realize its not the community norm for part design like

the Prusa i2 had the calibration.scad that we could print to make sure holes, nut traps etc would print correctly. Is there one for the i3 that I don't see?

just out of curiosity, why would I get the end-stop cross talk now?
I was running Pontrface / Lincomatic Marlin on my Printrboard for months and never once did I have this issue. Does marlin have a "ALWAYS_CHECK_ENDSTOPS" setting I don't know about?
I still get the false trigger when a print is finished and the machine homes X & Y. Sometimes (most times) my X stops before it gets to the e

I'm posting this here to get some feedback before reporting it on github.
I’m going to try and make this as simple as possible to understand. If I confuse you (likely since i confuse myself) just ask and I'll try and explain it better
I am currently using Repetier Host/FW, and Slic3r 0.9.3
I have my printer setup so that Slic3r handles all temp settings (Bed & Extruder). I like to have my

Well just an update... and a thank you! repetier
My new start code is:
G28 ; Home all axes
M104 S224 ; Set nozzle temp, no wait. -gets things heated up at same time
M190 S114 ; Set bed temp, wait.
M109 S224 ; Set nozzle temp, wait.
G92 E0 ; Reset extruder
G1 E3 F1200 ; Prime extruder 3mm
G1 E2 F1200 ; Retract extruder 1mm
G92 E0 ; Reset extruder
and it worked great.. never even thought to add M

thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a try tonight. The "normal layer"/"anything after the first" temp issues are definitely slic3r related but not to big of a deal. getting the start gcode is the most important, I want to get it to the point where its like printing a piece of paper "hit print, walk away".
Yes, it is only skewing in one direction and pausing before it does it. end-stop was

Well I did get it working.. sorta..
-In Repetier FW M116 isnt supported.
So I have to use M190 (set Bed & wait) then M109 (set Extr & wait), which takes longer then setting both and then telling the machine to wait for both (M116), but whatever.
-Another thing that is wrong is I think I found a bug in slic3r 0.9.3 or its just setup this way.
In order for me to keep my different temps

I am trying to setup Repetier and Slic3r but I am getting confused.
In Slic3r I have this for my start and end gcode:
START:
G28 ; Home all axes
M140 S115 ; Set bed temp, no wait.
M104 S225 ; Set nozzle temp, no wait.
M116 ; Wait until target temperatures for extruder and heated bed are reached
G92 E0 ; Reset extruder
G1 E3 F1200 ; Prime extruder 3mm
G1 E2 F1200 ; Retract extruder 1mm
G92 E0 ;

Well I didn't screw with the pots yet on my Printrboard but I did put a much bigger PC fan (80mm, the old one was a 40mm) on it this morning powered by a wall-wart. Started the 4hr print over again then left the house for the day. When I got home the object printed perfectly (minus some bridging issues). So either the fan helped, I got lucky or the printer knew I was at the hardware store buying

Ok, I haven't lost my mind yet but getting close. Every time I think I have this problem sorted it waits till I'm 2hrs into a 4hr print and rears its head.

Makerfarm i2 Prusa
GT2 belts and 36t Pulleys
I have tightened belt, swapped x & y motors (PITA), slowed down Accl and such in FW, added a fan to Printrboard, lubed rails. I checked for binding, motors cool to touch after 30mi

Wasn't sure where to post this question (open to suggestions). If there is a webpage that has this info, I haven't found it yet.
I'm interested in knowing how much filament the different printers take to print (by weight I guess). like the Prusa i2 & i3, Mendel90 to name a few. This data is somewhere hiding from me I know it. I ask b/c a friend came by today and was amazed by my Prusa i2 and

This isn't a rant, Slic3r is the only program I have been able to feel comfortable with, its great.. but whats been killing me is I'm new to all this and until recently I didn't know the newer versions were having these issues (I was under the impression it got fixed in 8.3, stupid me, I know). This has made learning/tuning very difficult, lol.

take some pictures of your machine and post them (hotend, extruder, etc).. I'm pretty new to all this stuff myself but ppl here seem to be extremely helpful and willing compared to other forums on the net.. also YouTube was helpful in visualizing all the stuff you see in txt.

I only know of 2 sizes 3mm & 1.75mm. I use 3mm, 0.35 j-head hotend & Greg's Accessible Extruder.
I had an issue when I first built the machine where I thought I got a 1.75mm instead of the 3mm I ordered. With the hotend on the extruder i couldn't get the filament to feed into the hotend so I tore it apart. when the hotend was removed from the extruder it slid right in.. put it back toge

I might be completely wrong about this but I remember reading something here in the forums about this.. don't ask me where.. I think it had something to do with "Z lift" setting causing it. I don't use lift so I haven't noticed it myself. good luck

I'm unsure of my Rev (not near the printer, but I think it is C) but I had this issue and it was driving me crazy, I thought it was broken.. I have learned that I don't

Another update... lol
Well I got the 5/16" smooth rods swapped out with 8mm rods... My print quality has improved sorta. I have allot less wobble in the prints because the bed doesn’t shake side to side like it was before. On the 5/16" you can feel the slop in the LM8UU bearings, 8mm there is none that I can tell. This is where the good news ends...
With my 2.5lbs bed assembly & 8mm rods I

just an update..
I'm a little more worried about weight now.. I started to get my 8mm rods swap started, pulled the whole Y axis, moving parts (lm8uu bearings and mounts x4, upper and lower lexan, mk1 heatbed, 8x8 mirror glass trivet from craft store & spriings/hardware). I put it on a kitchen scale and it was 2.5lbs.. With this setup i had to lower my speeds to keep it from skipping/missing

Thanks for mentioning weight, It completely slipped my mind when planning all this out.. I think weight will become a problem for me b/c right now I have the 2 lexan, MK1 bed & 8x8x1/4" mirror glass and it was skipping / jittering when I added the glass. When I pull the machine apart to change out my 5/16 rods for 8mm rods I will find a way to weigh it.
Is there anyplace that sells 1/8" MIC

Well I got together a parts/price list quick. The weather here in SW Florida isn't looking to good for the begining of next week so I'm going to have to hold off. Once the storm has passed (or misses us entirely I hope) I'll start ordering. According to my wife having the money to help myself and family if the worst happens is more important then a 3d print, I hate when shes right If you happen

ok so I did a lil bit of looking around for info on thermal cut-offs. Now remember I can wire it up if I have a little direction but that doesnt mean I know what I just did, lol..
From what I found (please correct me if I'm wrong) Thermal Fuses & Thermal Cut-offs are one in the same? If triggered they have no reset, Replacement is the only way to get up and running again. Is there anything

So as long as its a 3-32vdc control and 24-480vac 25a output I should be fine? For easy install, panel mount.
