Thanks for the links!
Awesome prints by the way!

Hmm I've been thinking on how to make a heated build chamber as simple as possible with my current setup. I have a 500W silicon heater and I thought i could probably use that as the heating element instead of a separate one.
A blower blows the air below the heated bed. A PID control loop controls the PWM of the blower fan based on the thermistor temper

Yes they are usually good, I have them in my delta und in some other projects. That's the point, it was a great offer, but it seems they have made a mistake with that prices, or at least that is what they say (I finally got a reply on my Skype request).
They ask me to cancel the order, since the price was too low by mistake. I find it sad, since it was a 11.11 sale, and that prices were listed fo

Yes it was definitely a start of 11.11 in China, i have been waiting on the start of this sale (9:00 in Europe, and the prices dropped somewhat about noon).
The order was accepted by AliExpress and marked payed almost immediately.
But it's not the point, I just wish to know if someone else is in the same boat... and if there are any consequences for the seller if they do not ship.

Hi,
Perhaps I am not the only one out there... Wantai Motor Store on AliExpress had ridiculesly low prices on 11.11 sale this year. I was not hoping for much, but still I placed an order for a couple of stepper drivers. Soon enough the seller changed the prices back to normal.
Consequently, the seller did not ship my orders, and doesn't seem to be keen on answering my messages. Does it sound fami

David, please excuse me but I have to speak up to you in person.
Yesterday during a print my Kossel with Duet 0.8.5 printer went a bit crazy. As it happens I was not around, so I cannot say what exactly happened. But I found my printer with the head at a strange position, with one arm stretched beyond a straight line, with the head way outside the print area. The Web-interface was showing a therm

Nice stuff, I am in the middle of doing something similar to this idea...
How do the Magball Arms doing with this extra weight and such? I am still on Traxxas joints... but have purchased the Smart Effector already. No Magballs yet thought...

Hi David,
Do you have any information how the Smart Effector would perform in a heated chamber (say 50-60C). I really like the idea and design, but I am not sure if it is allowed to be used in a heated environment...
Thanks!

Would you mind sharing a brand, or even a link to by this tape? I made a quick search and it seems to be too many hits to pick one? Perhaps they are all the same, but just to make sure... I am from Germany if it matters, but would gladly order from UK as-well.

Any news if this works with David's IR Sensor? If yes, I would be happy to get one since I have some issues with PrintBite and ABS...

There is a setting in the preferences menu, I do not remeber the name exactly, but I believe it was under File/Preferences... the naming after that should be clear to understand.

Do you measure the G31 Z value with the printer running hot, or cold?
With some designs you can have quite a serious amount of thermal 'expansion', which will lead to the same results... my printer has something around 0.3mm difference...
Both the bed and the Hotend should be at the operating temperatures during the calibration...

I think the easiest way to find your printer in a complicated network (including Switches, rooters) is to set it in DHCP mode. You cave posted your config.g in the first post, I have modified it a bit:
; Ormerod 2 config file for dc42 Duet firmware
M111 S0 ; Debug off
M550 PMyOrmerod ; Machine name (can be anything you like)
M551 Preprap ; Machine password (currently not used)
M540 P0xBE:0xEF:0x

Modern Stratasys systems use a mains powered heater, with 40-50mm of heated zone... even longer then a Volcano. Since I saw that I was wondering why RepRap doesn't use such a long heater...
But that is a different topic I guess...

Ok, I have repeated the tests just now.
0.4mm Nozzle, E3D v6 with a 40W heater!
Tried to extrude 50mm of filament:
- 5mm/s all is good
- 7.5mm/s got my stepper skipping about 2/3 along the way
- 10mm/s the stepper is skipping about 1/2 of the way...
All times the temperature of the Hotend seems to drop about 1 to 1.5C during this short test.

Excuse me for the late reply - I have been busy at work...
Just now I have tried the test you asked me for...
My direct drive extruder can only reliably push the filament at 10mm/s with ABS @ 250C (tested with 50mm Filament feed using the DWC). I have no PLA at the moment, so could not perform these tests with PLA.
At 15mm/s the stepper will skip steps already.

I will do, but clearly misunderstood you, since I was assuming a 30mm/s printing speed, and not the extrusion.
I doubt my directdrive will be able to do as good. But more on this tomorrow (EU time)

Thanks for the review, I was among the ones who asked for it...
But 30mm/s seems a bit low to me, I assume 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layers?
My direct drive can go up to 60mm/s easily (with ABS) and a 1m Bowden setup...
But using anything larger than a 20mm stepper makes no sense with it, to my opinion...

Perhaps this is an issue with the hex infill? Did you try other infill options?

A wife phones up her husband:
- Dear, there is this crazy person on the highway, going the wrong way, be careful!
- What?! A single person?! ...Are you kidding?! There are hundreds!!!!!
I am eager to buy off your Duet with IR Sensor for $150 including shipment to Germany .

Thanks David, first print looked like the extrusion temperature would be way too hot.
How much deviation would you expect based on your experience? Are we talking about 1-5C, or 10-30C range?
I had to drop from 250C to 230C to get visually comparable results, does it make any sense?

I have been printing for a while after the CPU change, but the quality seems to be not so great as before... this might be a pacebo effect, or the effect of the changed cooling, but still...
David, is there anything special I have to do after changing the complete new processor? I cannot think on anything but to flash the correct FW version with Bossac? I went straight to 1.18 latest...

Yes, I have measured a constant 3.3V at the MOSFET Gate input. I as I can see it has a direct connection to the corresponding ARM CPU pin...
Would you say it is safe to use the Duet board as it is? Or is there a chance that there is more damage?
Also, is there a way to remap the fan control to something else, like Hotend PWM, etc (I have a DueX4 as well)?
I will most probably order the CPU separ

So I have exchanged both MOSFETs for a new ones. The FAN1 PWM (the one that was killed actually) works well again. However, the FAN0 PWM still runs at full power, with no control available. The corresponding LED is always on.
If I run M106 I1 or I0, I can see the FAN1 ist changing its state, but FAN 0 - does not.
Lucky enough I can leave the Hotend FAN always on, but I still would prefer to fix t

Hm... if DC42 is puzzled then I have to start worrying .
Ok, my PWM FAN1 is set to Thermoplastic mode and is cooling the Hotend.
The PWM FAN 0 was used as a part cooling FAN, and this one was killed by me (airpump without Flyback diode).
Now both FANs run quite fast permanently, but if I change the PWM set point in DWC, I can hear that the Part cooling fan starts to spin faster. Does it make mor

Well, actually with PWM set to zero both FANs are speeding quite fast, but if I set the PWM to 100%, I can hear the FANs going faster... so there is a change there, it is just that the zero point is somewhere at 90% or something...
Do I understand it correctly, that this part of CPU is sort of not important for normal operation? I mean if I have fried the PWM control inside the CPU I still can us

Ok, lets hope for the best...
What happens was, that the pump was working fine until I tried to reduce the PWM setting... well, exactly why there should be a flyback diode anyways... after that BOTH PWM outputs are dead (well, running close to 100% PWM actually). Any idea why both were damaged?
How can I check if the CPU is fried? It seems like DWC didn't notice anything wrong... even after a r
