Relay controls the bed? I would imagine a non-relay option would be a first upgrade. Or is the cost a big jump?

It's the only i3 with buttons instead of a knob, for the LCD. Also it seems to be the only one with some partially-built components.
Always the question of acrylic though; will it warp over time.
And the SD card; is it on the LCD, or on the main board?

Another way to attach glass: Very think silicone thermal pads, used to attach cpu's.

Yes the aluminum frame. By making it black, and with black parts, it will look almost as good as the acrylic ones.

Well the TS seems to have some good pointers:
Filament on top
LCD on top
Power supply below bed (making use of the heat).
Marlin pre-configured (seems to be a problem for other kits)
Can the aluminum be painted without it interfering with the motion?
And where is the SD card?... on the LCD or on the main board?

Question about the Folger and other kits: It seems the most common initial problem is endstops being backwards, etc. If the kit is pre-packaged with the initial settings, why does everyone (on every kit, not just Folger) always have to figure out which way things go?

I was told that the ribbon cable for the SD card will pick up interference, if it's not on the main board. I think Melzi has it on the board.

To those that have some experience with these printers: Do acrylic frames warp over time?
Also, is the SD slot located by the LCD, or on the main board?

I see that these Geetech i3 units are acrylic frame. Does anyone have experience on if they will warp or crack?
Also, is the SD card ribbon cable routed near other things which may cause interference? Some printers put the SD card directly on the controller board so that there is no ribbon cord to collect noise.

How are these acrylic frame machines for long-term use without cracking or warping the frame?

Nice long thread with good info. However, when the thread shows up in your subscribed threads with a "new" flag, how do you just go to the first new post, like most forums can do? I seem to have to go to page 1 first, then to the last page, then scroll up and try to remember what I read last.
And of course I end up reading many things again before realizing I've already read them.

What are the the buying points for the TS? I've so far only looked at the Folger, GeeTech, and Wanhou.

When looking at the subscribed threads:
... many other forums have a "Go to first new post" button, but I don't see it here. There is only a "New" indicator, which does the same as clicking on the thread link: it takes you to the first post of the thread.
Is there a way to go to the first new/unread post?

As for the extra mass at the top, it should make things more stable. The quick jerking of the head won't be able to move the vertical arms as much.

As for an edit-able first post link, it's usually a good idea to expect posts to freeze after a day or so; the links you put in them can instead go to a page on your own site that you can change, without needed to change the link in the post.

I've lately read that stringing is from too much heat, making the plastic too thin.

Is this an all-V-slot design?
Also, I have seen several people not use the relay; is there not a mosfet heater driver as a standard part somewhere?

Where is the prusa forum? I found some forums but don't know if it's the one.

PET is perfect for non-enclosed printers with heated beds. No warping, no smell, no water absorption. But needs higher extruder temps, I think.

I read that ABS was a standard because before 3D printing, it was already available as plastic welding rod. So maybe PLA was a welding rod too.
And maybe PET did not make good welding rod, so it was never available until now.

Wouldn't higher temps thin the PETG and make it less stringy?

Well for a 10 inch bed like I was needing, I thought the 2-sided support like Prusa gives would be needed. And although cheaper, the 2 motors do sometimes loose sync, so I was asking if there is a 1-motor version with belts.

I see that some Prusa kits have the option for acrylic, aluminum, and steel.
