Scorpia was kind enough to send me some springs he got from a shop in Melbourne CSW products.
CSWCS20 on this page
I think they were about $5 for a packet of 3.
They are quite stiff.
Auzze is using some slightly less stiff springs (possibly these CSWCS14).

perhaps your filament was slipping. Do you use springs to tension your idler? If not I found it difficult to get the tension right to both prevent slipping and motor skipping. This would be exacerbated if your feedstock was not uniform. After it has slipped, you need to clean out the teeth in the hobbing to prevent further slipping.

They look awesome.

But what if you took all of the planks you had removed from the boat and put them together to make another boat. Which one is the original boat?

What about all of the repraps printed on repstraps and their children?
What about repraps that have been upgraded?
This reminds me of my grandfather's axe. He had it for 50 years. The handle had been replaced 7 times an the head 3.

so chad,
Does this mean you can leave accelleration on? Do you notice accelleration helping?

Reprap also has the irc channel which I have found quite valuable. There is a wealth of knowledge there available often at a moments notice. That is my second port of call if a google/forum search doesnt yield answers quickly, and I have often found the answers I need there. For the questions that werent immediately gratified, I use the forum. You have to wait a while to get an answer on the foru

I have gotten improved prints my mounting a fan on the extruder carriage that circulates air around the print. With such a fan, it would probably be much cooler under your carriage

Sounds to me like your ToM is the pile of scrap. Don't you see the irony in making unsupported claims that a Prusa would be more work to build and keep running when in fact you are having trouble doing exactly that with your ToM?

Yes I'm planning on printing more. In fact I have sold 3 more sets (two of which I still need to print the extruders for). The other 3 I just sold to people asking about it in #reprap.

What do you have for these settings?
infill w/t
perimiter w/t
infill perimiter overlap
It is the infill that strikes the perimiter at an angle that isnt meeting which makes me think that skeinforge thinks the width of something it too large. Remember that that line is the centre of the extrusion, so the edge of the extrusion may meet the perimiter without the center touching it.

to quote from Vik Olliver's site that sells PLA:
"Clear PLA is suitable as the core for investment castings, as the plastic vapourises leaving no char."
Perhaps Clear PLA wont have the black gunk problem.

ok rocketscientist: it took me a while, but I finally have one of the glass nozzles you sent me attached to an extruder.
I have a thin ptfe sleeving tube (thanks to Have Blue who kindly ordered it from mcmaster carr and posted it to Australia) whose OD almost perfectly matches the ID of the glass. This tube is pushed in all the way to the melt zone. It was too tight to push in until I lightly san

The gen 3 extruder board uses DC motor controllers in a bodged up way to control a stepper. The PWM for the DC motor driver (which sets the torque on your stepper) can be set explicitly by the software, or set to a value based on reading the voltage from the pot on the board. When I first started, I had all sorts of problems where sometimes the extruder seemed to enough torque and sometimes it wa

I assume that is an ABS whistle. PLA is much more tricky. You really need to get it right to prevent sag without snapping the filament.

The flow/feed rate should be such that the filament is stretched across the gap but doesn't snap. See this:

The MAX chip has a precision amplifier to measure the thermocouple. Its output is a serial data stream that must then be interpreted by your controller. There is some code in the reprap firmware for reading the temp from the max chip (that is in fact what I use), but im not sure if the RAMPS compatible firmware supports it too. I have heard that the guys from the Melbourne (Australia) RUG were wo

This is frought with danger if you have a bit of backlash in your system. The accuracy of the result will depend on the size of the line or square...
