Dintid,
Thanks for the info.
I had cruised E3D recently and didn't twig they had the 'couples.
Just need to read up on plugging in the amp/controller. Is it simply
PnP or time to go code diving.

hi folks,
I have a problem when printing. Prints will at random heights be skewed towards the
ymax before resuming "normal" printing. The attached photo shows four attempts in
a row with only the left hand one working. This is a fairly extreme example but it is
happening about 50% of the time.
The model was sliced in both Cura and Slic3r. All were printed from a SD card in the

Hi folks,
In the marlin forum i lurk in, when a topic is solved it is asked that it is
marked so by changing the subject.
Now i have been able to do this a few times but the vast majority of times i can not.
Now why can i can and can't do this reliably?
Oh, obviously this only applies to topics i've started.
Many thanks,
Andrew

I imagine having a hotend swing +-5° as i am printing would explain some misbehaviour.

Somehow the PID settings for my Hotend were utterly out of whack.
I have no idea how I was able to print calibration cubes of acceptable quality
when P and I were out by a factor of 6x and D 3x.
Worrying about the top surface on small prints being all twisted up when the PID
is completely out of balance is a bit redundant.
Thanks folks,

For some reason the first pass of autotune was reaching +35 over the target
temperature.
This was blowing a test in the temperature.cpp file.
I increased the safety margin from +20 to +50c and autotune ran quite happily.

Okay folks,
I'm starting to think the old board isn't dead.
After rebuilding the hotend I decided to autotune the hotend again.
I issued,
M303 E0 S200 C8
and
M303 E0 S170 C8
Both times the temp climbed straight up to 220 and 190c respectively and the
pronterface came back with a temp too high error.
Any ideas what is happening? the temp is swinging a too much on the hotend and
I'd rather no

Has anyone out there had experience using thermocouples instead of
thermistors?
Thinking of upgrading and wondering about what model thermocouple seems
to be the commonly accepted one to use as well as methods to connect
them to the RAMPS.
Looking before jumping this time.
Many thanks,

Hi everyone,
I think this is simply a case of cooked boards but second opinions welcome.
Working on the hotend yesterday and I think the cooling fan which runs of D9
was shorted, but still runs.
Now, if I set temp in pronterface for the hotend then either.
1. Temp blows ~30c above set temp before starting to drop. Not stable after
15minutes.
2. Pronterface instantly comes back saying it's re

Okay,
I know this has just been dealt with in a fashion recently but I can not find the post.
On a recent print of small items, perimeters were fine but the top was like a mess of
spaghetti.
I know it is related to either over extrusion or over heating, but don't really know how
to fix it. I don't even know how over extrusion can occur, unless the wrong E value
was set in the firmware.

The erratic occurrence of this problem make me lean towards a comms error.
I'll reprint the same model a few times and the problem won't occur.
A bit annoying but I think I'll switch to SD card for big stuff from now on.
Thanks folks for the help.

Hey folks,
just wondering if i can configure slic3r to auto adjust acceleration based on angle
of change or is that something it already does?

Hey folks,
I hadn't realised the USB comms were so dicky. I think I will write it off
as just that. Time to dig out the old SD cards.
Thanks for the help.

Hi folks,
When i saw values people have posted I was a little surprised.
Makes me wonder if my values are a bit insane.
I will admit after trying honeycomb infill twice, I switched to rectlinear to stop
my extruder/hotend from shaking itself to pieces.

thanks for the info.
I tried the (-x,-y,-z) but the problem created by max_lengths being calculated
from -x to +x etc had me concerned what other incorrectly calc'd values were
hiding.
Solved the prob by hot knifing the offending parts of the frame.

Hi Digital Dentist.
thanks for the info.
You're right about the issues with printing via a host. Got 95% through my first biggish print
and the beast just stopped.

Okay, this is not a consistent problem.
I have a print right now that about a mm or so up from the base
has been moved 2mm across. What is causes this? Is this one of
those comms errors i've heard pronterface suffers from?

Hi folks,
The rework has been printing now for 3 days and behaving itself apart from some strange
surface issues. I am wondering what seem to be the maximun values for speed etc
other people have gotten to with i3 etc.
I've currently got MAX_FEED 150,150,4 and MAX_ACC 10000 6000. Slicer is setup
to perimeter 50mm/s and infill of 80mm/s.
Can they go much higher? Or have i pretty much hit the l

hi folks,
finally started printing after 12 months. But I'm a bit confused where to do print
positioning. Is it easier to leave slic3r to just slice and position/scale etc prints in
pronterface or use slic3r to adjust for an offset heat bed/scale/slice/position etc and just
use pronterface to print.
My heat bed is offset as well.
I suspect asking about slic3r vs pronterface might be asking for

This problem has plagued me since I first started posting.
The heat bed on my machine is about 10mm from the x min endstop.
What is the most elegant way of having the hotend, after homing,
adjust itself +10 on the x axis?
Do it in marlin? or setup up an offset in slic3r when setting the bed up?
This isn't a current issue with the early prints as everything is just
being printed in the middle o

Unfortunately not.
As the temptable is rough or smooth, depending on the number of points in the table,
approximation of a curve, manually entering say the t2 pair of 235:50 would mess this up.
If you were lucky with a table with three points, ie p1-3, and the temp pair you wanted
to enter lay between p1 and p3, you probably could just whack it in.
But and I think this would be the big but, no

Hi folks,
sorry if this isn't in the right group but I've looked and this seems to be closest for discussing Pythong errors.
I'm generating temptables, well attempting to, for custom thermistors, but the two scripts I use,
the stock CreateTempTable.py and Hydraraptors MakeTempTable.py work for a bit but then spit the dummy.
The errors I'm getting are,

The MakeTempTable script by hydraraptor has the t0 etc NTC values already plugged in, so you only have to provide 2 temp:adc pairs to generate a new table.
But with the starting value of 25℃:100K being inaccurate and main table being created using t1=185(PLA) and t2=235(ABS), any temp readings in the bottom part of table at out of whack by around 10℃ or so. I was going manually generate a new r0

Hi Roxy,
the problem is if I use the values in the example, MakeTempTable and CreateTempTable work.
But if I try to generate a table with t0=60 and t1=110 then I get the error. It is obviously some
thing strange in the code, even though it seems elementary.
I was hoping to generate a 2nd table specifically for the heatbed.
Yes, my system can be described as different. I'm using umm, 104's but

Hi folks,
it might be a bit rude to ask in this forum but what would be an upgrade to the ramps/mega combo?
My ramps is working like a charm but I wouldn't mind having something that didn't need heaps of cooling,
replacing mosfets, replacing dodgy low amp power connectors, etc.
All help appreciated,
Andrew
