You need another Arduino (Sanguino, etc) to run the extruder board. Edit: unless you do some serious hacking of the extruder board firmware. Not sure how you would even go about it.by NewPerfection - Reprappers
I just use for measuring STL's. It's free, though Windows only. It can measure point to point, line to line, circle center to circle center, or any combination of the above. It's quite useful. Edit: can't remember if it can measure angles, but they would be easy to calculate using three point locations.by NewPerfection - Reprappers
Been a while since you posted here TimRuffner? What was your previous username then?by NewPerfection - General
Why would it be requesting that much RAM? I run the host software on a several year old computer with 1 GB of RAM under Windows 7 and have no issues at all.by NewPerfection - RepRap Host
My motors (with Gen 2 electronics) are permanently enabled. It's not a big deal, and doesn't hurt anything.by NewPerfection - Reprappers
I have three NEMA 23 steppers from alltronics, they were only $17 a piece and very powerful. They're working great and seem to be very high quality.by NewPerfection - Reprappers
I run 0.9 degree 3 volt steppers with 12 volt supply, and have no issues at all.by NewPerfection - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
Are you going to print PLA or ABS? For PLA you don't need a heated bed, and can just print on blue painters' tape on top of any flat stiff surface.by NewPerfection - Mechanics
I print PLA on blue painters' tape. It works great!by NewPerfection - Reprappers
I wish I had known you were going to make these before I bought one of your nozzles I do have to say though that your machining is excellent, and so far the nozzle I bought is working great. To everyone else, I would definitely recommend doing business with reifsnyderb.by NewPerfection - General
I ordered some 3mm clear PLA from them a bit ago. They have good prices and ship quickly.by NewPerfection - General
To prevent PTFE bulge, just get a 1/2" copper pipe connector. It fits snugly around the insulator (I actually had to hammer the insulator in with a soft-faced hammer). That will keep the PTFE from bulging and should cost less than $1 at any hardware store. You might need to file down the stops if it has them on the inside.by NewPerfection - General
How about here? I just ordered a 5 lb roll of PLA in natural color, should be here today.by NewPerfection - Plastic Extruder Working Group

This isn't a forum for helping random people from the internet use stepper motors. This forum relates to RepRap. If you want help with a specific stepper for something other than RepRap, you really should try Googling it or asking somewhere else.by NewPerfection - Mechanics
I am only able to get about 4 mm/s out of my McWire. I'm not quite printing yet though. I plan on converting it to a belt driven X and Y axis, which shouldn't be very difficult. I'll post back if/when I get it done.by NewPerfection - General
The holes are sized to be tapped. Once you tap them the screw will fit perfectly. If you want the screws to instead go through and secure with a nut, you will need to drill them out to the size of the screw.by NewPerfection - General
You just have to check back frequently. It's been in stock more than a few times in the past few months. I don't know of any other ready-made extruders, but I have seen some made that are really simple.by NewPerfection - General
With the McWire, it ends up being 1.25 mm per revolution for all three axes, which is 32 times slower in the X and Y than the Darwin. Hence the reason for me switching it to belt driven. It looks like it will be quite simple to do, I just need to get some belt and pulleys.by NewPerfection - Reprappers

wesjanik Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Guess their "email me when back in stock" feature > doesn't work Nope, it apparently doesn't. I never get emails from them when things get back in stock, despite making sure I had clicked "Sign up to get notified when this product is back in stock".by NewPerfection - Controllers
I have both a complete McWire and a complete MakerBot extruder. I haven't gotten it mounted yet, but will most likely use some angle aluminum. Also, I will be converting the McWire to belt driven X and Y axes, as the screw drive is just too slow for reasonable build speed. I'll document both on my blog when I have time.by NewPerfection - Reprappers
1/10 inch. I'm pretty sure that's a standard screw terminal.by NewPerfection - Controllers
This seems like a good subforum to open up. I'm just about to the point of getting my RepStrap printing, I'll start posting here with my issues/successes.by NewPerfection - Plastic Extruder Working Group
sounds like you either have a short or are trying to pull more current through the PWM than your power supply can handle.by NewPerfection - General
I've never seen those before. Pretty cool!by NewPerfection - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)

I'm sure someone else can chime in, but I remember there being a setting to enable the motors when they are not being moved. Unfortunately I cannot remember where it is.by NewPerfection - Controllers
