I ordered some yesterday and it's apparently shipping now - I'll happily give a report once I get to play with it.

@spaceman - I know what you mean, trying to get the right projector is a bit daunting. As I wrote in the section under "Projector" in my post: I ended up finding an InFocus IN2104 on ebay. A quick google search on this model told me it was 1024x768, and has a 200W bulb. Unlike Viktor I have made no modifications to the projector at all, and it works satisfactorily for the resins supplied by spo

I'll chime in to say I think I may be seeing this behaviour too. I noticed that my prints over the last couple of days have had considerable waves in the Z axis whereas previously I had virtually eliminated Z wobble. I put it down to something going wrong mechanically in my machine, but it's interesting to see this post because I actually started using the dev code to produce gcode just a coupl

@spaceman - I didn't catch your post, so this is a late response, but you might want to have a look at my blog post on my dlp setup (which is still a work in progress I should point out). At the bottom of that post there are a few links to the works of others. I'd also recommend looking at the subsequent update posts

> What viscosity is this resin, water, milk, treacle! and how do you handle it, in the dark, or is it stable in daylight until bombarded with UV? Could you just fish the part out without draining the tank?
The resin I got from spotamaterials has low viscosity - higher than water though. I can't think of a similar liquid at the moment. It seems quite stable in daylight, but hardens immediat

@Martin - It's an interesting solution. My concern would be having to move the vat (or projector) around, as you already point out. There's also the fact you would have to be sure your movements are precise when returning for the next layer. Plus the vat draining and refilling part would need some thinking about - it's quite nice on my setup at the moment that the part lifts up and can be remo

@DeuxVis - the main problem is vacuum force created between the part and the vat floor. The secondary problem is the adhesive force of the resin itself. To overcome the latter it's usual to use a "resin-phobic" material - I use a PTFE film for example, others have had success with a transparent silicone. The vacuum force is usually overcome by tilting or sliding the part from the floor. I hav

Hi HaniC,
I'll just add to the other comments by saying that if I was going to build my first printer now, with all I have learnt in the last year, I would go for the Mendel90. Not least because of Nophead's attention to detail, but it also seems very stable and a well thought out design. In fact I believe the 3rd iteration of Prusa's Mendel borrows from the Mendel90 design, if the pictures

Nice summary of the subject. Perhaps it would be also useful in the wiki? I'm thinking it might be found there more readily than here in the forums, but I don't know if people search the wiki nor where it would be best placed. Is there a section for "Engineering concepts" or "Things worth considering"?

Mechanics
Hi,
Unless you really know how to strip a printer, find one with the right motors, make sure the stepper-drivers are useable or easily available AND have the patience to do all that I would steer clear of the idea. 5 x NEMA 17 Steppers from somewhere like Zapp Automation (where I order mine) may cost ~55GBP, but the saving in less hassle would be well worth it.

Hi All,
Just the other day I had a print suddenly skew ~10mm in the +X direction for just one layer midprint. It turns out that my X axis was binding at higher travel speeds (130mm/s on my prusa setup) occasionally. I hadn't seen this previously because I had always run at ~90mm/s.
Might be worth checking? It's quite simply to test - I simply incremented the speed in pronterface in 1000mm/min i

Looks good! I would recommend an RSS feed so people can be notified of new entries etc without having to remember to go back to the site.
And, I don't know if it helps any, but perhaps the following lists might yield one or two printers you may not have already found?
(This one lists those categorised as "Commercial" if that's more what you are looking for):

Hi sicarius,
I think that aiming to design a more reprapable printer will yield a lot of fun, and it certainly is in keeping with the primary directive of the RepRap project! I suspect a lot of people at least think about how to reduce the vitamin count as they are building their first RepRap (I know I sure did) but the drive kind of tails off once the printer is up and running and other challe

Quoteprinting on a heatbed (unknown temp)
That would worry me, a lot! I've not printed with ABS, so can't really help, but I would try and find out what temp the bed is - perhaps that's too low?

(I'm posting this in General because even though its about electronics it's also about reprapability.)
I just stumbled over this video via reddit:
which explains how a Lightscribe DVD writer can be used to fuse graphite oxide to produce high-performance supercapacitors. Pretty interesting, and surely a candidate for "printable" electronics!
Anyone have any spare graphite oxide lying around?

Elidor - I think what you are describing has been done a few times:
Adrians version:
Some more heated beds:
Also, Nophead did a lot of research into this:
My attempt:
I actually don't use glass, rather I put green PET tape directly on the aluminium and print on that - so far it seems to work, but I only set the bed to ~55°C

Hi,
I would add a way of notifiying people of updates - to the site and also for new STL files - such as an RSS feed (or better several, across categories etc). Most people haven't time nor inclination to explicitly remember to return to the site. A feed, or even mailing list, would keep a channel to users open, especially as the site is still in the very early stages.
As others have already m

The metric STL files...
A rudimentary google seems to indicate that Solid Edge can only import STL files via a non-free plugin, as is the Google Sketchup (.skp) importer.

If you're planning on building the latest version of the Prusa (v2) then I created a set of Google Sketchup parts from the STL's a little while back:
They will have changed in the meantime, so of course your best bet is to get the STLs from the github project and import them in some way.
