Try setting all your zeros with the table down, and all measurements will
have reference to that point - just be sure that side of the frame is true
vertical and ay 90 degrees to keep x and Y axis references true too.

3 point suspension can help.
All measurements work from the Zero set for the X, Y and Z axis. It is on the side of the traveler
nearest the zero for the respective axis, to have the two bearings; and on the farthest side to allow
the single bearing room to float, preferably in the central position for the axis.
For the z-axis, I have let the rails on that farthest side to float on the x-plane.

Has anyone found a cure for the whole frame flexing across the X-axis.
The frame, by the triangular design, is rigid on the y-axis; but on the x-axis
the design allows the same triangular design to flex in that x-axis direction.
Panels down the Y-axis slopes would help, but they would severely limit access
to the table.

Among Model Railroad fans there is the landmark JMRI Case, only settled in 2010.that
gave Open Source protection against others patenting or copyrighting collective efforts.
I am surprised Thingiverse would not let things stay as this decision went.

Shapeways print stainless steel - do you think s/s jaws would loose the heat
as a heat sink with a fan on them ?

It is going to take time, and my suggestion is to build in affordable stages.
Most of the items are available at a good hardware shop, on eBay, or in
well documented instructions on this site.
I am still building a bespoke machine after 3 months!

You must use Metric Tool Steel Tight Tolerance Rod with these
bearings. (McMaster Item 88625K67 - 3' lengths)
In the US McMaster-Carr on www.mcmaster.com is a good source
for the Metric rod: pick a distribution point nearest you. I used eBay
for the bearings, with free shipping from China/Hong Kong.

I built the basic frame with 5/16 because Metric is expensive in the US -
5/16 is readily available at ACE Hardware.
All three moving axis are 8mm rod & threads at 1.25mm pitch. Because
I have built to also use as a 3D Mill; both the x & y axis rods are 12mm with
other structural changes for strengthening.
I found McMaster-Carr on www.mcmaster.com in the US a good place
to source Metr

Has anyone designed a head that will print/plot with a lacquer paint?

re, Mendel90_hot_end.png
I think if the heating core was tapped for M6,
then it could be located nearer the nozzle, and
only one M6 locking nut would be needed against
the top; with maybe a serrated washer to lock
against effects of highs/lows in temperatures.
Also, a more balanced core around the nozzle
would make for more even heat distribution with
a second thermistor.

Don't like the root design philosophy of the Miter Saw Bench at the top.

The initial design is 5/16- 8mm rods. To build bigger there will be
problems of flexing which, as previously posted, will distort printing.
I have used the injection molded vertices - available on eBay.
I am building to take a small router for milling model engineering, and
on both the x and y axis have increased the rods to 12mm. The top
brackets have aluminum outriggers at 7cms for router h

I started with injection moulded ABS parts for the 6 vertex pieces.
In the design, they appear to be the key parts for rigidity of the basic
supporting framework.

I agree with "edjuh" ::-
The basic design is open to all to copy, and it is very much an exercise in collecting
the various pieces, to make a machine that is uniquely your own.
The contributions of those shareing their experiences is important to the process of
building the ultimate machine.

Andrew: Thanks: It is the mintemp error message.
The notes within the config file say -
// The minimal temperature defines the temperature below which the heater will not be enabled
// It is used to check that the wiring to the thermistor is not broken.
// Otherwise this would lead to the heater being powered on all the time.
That being so, while the max_temp is set to 250 to shut down, I th
