I just received a RRD GLCD for my Smoothieboard and found the contrast very low whether powered by USB or 12V supply. After checking a bunch of threads like this one I took a closer look at the GLCD module and found that there is a tiny pot on the back side of LCD board mounted near the edge near the backlight. Unfortunately the pot is designed to be adjusted from above

There is a reason why many Onyx 300mm diameter heated bed owners run them on 18-24 volts. Mine went from struggling to reach 95C in an hour to shooting past 110C in 6 minutes by changing the power supply from 12V to 20V and an external SSR/heat sink. The Meanwell SE-600-24 power supply and SSR/heat sink that I picked up a few months ago was the best $120 that I ever spent on my printer.....

The AZSMZ folks also sell a 12864 GLCD for a whopping $20 that plugs right onto the AZSMZ board. (It apparently uses a slightly smaller GLCD panel than the RRD and clones, which may also be desirable for packaging in a smaller printer in place of an LCD-2004.) From a price versus research/aggravation perspective to figure out if the AZSMZ LCD interface is pin-compatible with the RRD GLCD, it is

I would argue that the planetary stepper is the better choice for building an extruder around, and you should find a source of printed extruder parts that utilize it and not direct drive with printed gears and a hobbed bolt.
The bolt patterns between both are completely different, and the shafts are 8mm (planetary) versus 5mm (direct) in diameter. The only extruder that I've ever seen that supp

I've got a small fan that came with the printer, but I don't see any way that it could cool down the hot end. Why would plastic melting too high up be a problem?
When plastic melts, it first turns into a rubbery substance before it goes totally liquid. That rubbery substance pushes out against the side walls of the hotend bore, causing a huge resistance that some extruders cann

Quotedougal1957Thanks Andy so just a automotive relay then. I Have an SSR that I got for it and it appears to be faulty ie it aint switching.
Make sure that you are using bang-bang and not PID, even with an SSR. They do not like switching at frequencies higher than 20 hertz from what I've read, and the result is that the SSR doesn't switch. (Does RepRapFirmware support bang-bang?) I know tha

The link that you posted includes both top and bottom brackets for $100. Given that I dropped $300+ last month with Misumi to build an all-metal frame for my next printer, those brackets look like a bargain to me. (My lat

I keep forgetting that RRD also made the LCD-2004. Is it a parallel LCD that might work with the Universal Pa

Has anyone successfully run a Delta at speed with DRV8825's and 1/32 stepping on an 8-bit controller? Seems like a bad idea, doubling the math from running the steppers at twice their resolution.....

The Google Deltabots group 25% off coupon code for Smoothieboards and accessories is good until the end of the month, and can be redeemed at either their USA or France distributors. Uberclock (USA distributor) is allegedly shut down for a week while they attend a maker festival, but it doesn't sound like you are in a pressing need to have a board in hand this week.

I've been running an RRD GLCD clone with my Azteeg X5 Mini (V1.0) since last fall, and it most certainly *is* supported in Smoothieware if you roll up your sleeves and make your own adapter cables. Grante

QuoteDark SkunkI just ordered the link below. Probably over priced but I don't know enough to do differently. I went with 3mm as the tube and presumably the extruder were designed for.
For what it's worth, the extruder above comes with a 14:1 geared stepper motor. It is NOT direct drive.
Stupid question - did you adjust the stepper driver current with a multimeter? Perhaps that stepper mo

I have only used geared stepper motors on my extruders. A gotcha to look out for is that the shaft on a geared stepper is 8mm diameter, whereas the shaft on a regular stepper is 5mm. You'll need to change hobs. The bolt patterns also differ.
Does the motor bind up even when it is detached from the extruder?????

Your centrifugal blower sounds good as a print cooling fan. You need a separate hot end fan to blow air over the cooling fins of the hot end assembly. Usual choice is a 40mmx10mm PC fan.
He has a PEEK J-head clone, not an E3D. I have never read anywhere about those needing a cooling fan. Can't say from experience though, as my only experience with a J-head was watching a brand new on

If it has a hob on the motor shaft as the filament drive, check to see that the set screw isn't hitting any part of the extruder body at that spot. My very expensive all-metal geared extruder kept stopping at the same spot in its rotation, and I wound up having to file a groove in the housing so the exposed set screw could pass through.....

QuoteMylationI'll start by prefacing that I'm an absolute newbie at this whole thing. I really want to build a delta and have been looking at a few kits now but some of the cheaper kits out there scare me a bit. A kit has the advantage that I don't have to find all the parts. But I'm not to keen on sourcing everything. Can someone give a bit of advice on what someone in NA might pay on average fo

Why does my cherry pi keep skipping like this in prints.
Check that the set screw on the Z-tower's stepper motor sprocket is tight. You may even want to back it out half a turn, wiggle the sprocket around until it is centered on the flat spot of the shaft, and then lock it down again. I've found that if the set screw isn't 100% square with the flat spot on the motor's shaft,
