That's pretty good value considering the cost of the filament alone, then the time taken to print - I'm already up to 6 hours for just two parts of the frame.by cosmicr - Tantillus
I'm considering doing a Tantillus build, but I'm from Australia and we use the Metric system here. I'm want to convert the printed parts to work with metric, but I am finding some inconsistencies in the BOM. For example, why does the axis use a mixture of metric and imperial rods? The difference is almost negligible, and probably beyond the tolerance of the printed parts, but nevertheless it'sby cosmicr - Tantillus
Hi April, I saw your article in The Age. I assumed it was you since I recognised the MendelMax 1.5! Congratulations on getting the exposure, it's great for girl geeks and 3d printing in general! Here's the article for anyone interested: link Unfortunately since my last post I haven't done a lot more with mine. I started printing the parts for a smartrap. I'll have to get back into it.by cosmicr - Australia, Melbourne RUG
Thanks for the replies guys. I've started ordering parts. I've changed my mind on JHead and am thinking the E3D head... Will see when I get to it. Will stick with 1.75mm unfortunately, since it might be too much trouble to go to 3mm. I've been attempting to print off the parts on my Mendelmax 1.5, and am having a really hard time. The build plate is the biggest thing I've ever tried. I'm using wby cosmicr - Smart_Rap
Hello All, I'm a MendelMax 1.5 user, planning to print off the parts and build a 0.4.9 SmartRap. First and foremost, what layer height do you recommend? I'm thinking 0.4mm? I'm using PLA. I've gone over the BOM and had a look at the instructions, but have a few questions about sourcing the components and building: 1. I'm assuming the design I'm printing allows for the newer auto-levelling (ieby cosmicr - Smart_Rap
Thanks again for all the replies everyone. I had a go last night at the wade's small gear, it seemed to come out okay in PLA, so I then tried the calibration piece (cal.scad). I realised I've got bigger problems. The piece was coming out 39mm in one direction and 38mm in the other (instead of 40mm). I've got to get the calibration a bit closer before I undertake this big task. Thanks again for aby cosmicr - Mendel90
Thanks for the replies - I will give it a shot. W/T == width/thickness? Are you referring to filament or nozzle? Just looking in config.scad there's layer_height, filament_width (which is layer height * 1.5? doesnt seem right), nozzle_length(I think this refers to the mendel90). In dibond_config.scad there's default_wall and thick_wall, I don't think its either of those. In slic3r I can change boby cosmicr - Mendel90
Hi All, I'm planning on building a Mendel90 from scratch, using my Mendelmax 1.5 for printing the printed parts. I've been researching what I need to do and I have read on the wiki page that the printed parts need to be printed with both a 0.35mm and 0.4mm nozzle. I only have a 0.4mm nozzle though, am I out of luck? Could I print the whole lot with a 0.35mm nozzle instead? Also, has anyone sourby cosmicr - Mendel90
I thought you all might like to know I now have a working Mendelmax 1.5. Thanks to all. I'm amazed I even got the thing going, but it's working now. Still having a few calibration issues, bubbles under the tape on the bed, levelling, etc. But I have some prints already. Still got a fair bit of work to do tidying up the cables too. I'll start a new thread and post pics etc soon.by cosmicr - Australia, Melbourne RUG
Hey there aprilstorm and anyone following this thread - sorry for the long delay, but I've been disheartened by the whole wrong part saga with my printer and haven't made any more progress since June. I've been re-motivated however to get it going again so I've emailed 3dprintertek and await their response, but in the mean time here are some photos of my problem (and a bonus shot of the printer)by cosmicr - Australia, Melbourne RUG
rather than start a new thread, figured I'd continue in this one - hope you dont mind. I received my kit, although their communication was slow, it came and very happy with the quality of it all. I got purple and black, not unlike your pink and black. I got to working on putting it together using their videos, like you said the videos are slightly different to the kit (the main thing being the Zby cosmicr - Australia, Melbourne RUG
Hey yeah thanks I am in Melbourne (north-west). I'll take you up on your offer if I get stuck! I'm getting a bit nervous on the order actually, I haven't heard anything from them yet and the money has already come out. I paid through google wallet on their website but only have the google confirmation. How long did it take with yours? Was their communication good?by cosmicr - Australia, Melbourne RUG
well I just ordered. I got the same colours (black/purple combo), I hope you dont mind! Hopefully it doesn't take too long to arrive. I don't really know what to expect. As soon as I get it I'll post a build log in a new thread.by cosmicr - Australia, Melbourne RUG
Hey there, thanks for the great pics and updates... I've actually been inspired to buy a printer from these guys based on your posts. I think I'll even get the same colour. Overall can you offer any advice before I take the plunge? Is there anything you'd do different? I'm pretty confident I can get the frame built also based on their videos, but did you already have a background in wiring etc?by cosmicr - Australia, Melbourne RUG
