Hi, I have built a metric Tantillus recently. I actually purchased 8mm rods from Aliexpress and some skate bearings from Aliexpress as well. The problem with the bearings was that they were really bad quality with a huge amount of play on the 8mm rods. I then purchased some high quality bearings and they were a snug press fit. But I could press them on the rods and remove them by hand.by Andersl - Tantillus
I'm gathering some data now and will report my findings as soon as my tests are done. It's a pity that the fault pin is not used on the drv8825's on the RAMPS. If they were the firmware could detect a thermal shutdown as well as the other errors the drv8825 signals on that pin.by Andersl - Tantillus
OK, I'll try that. The temperatures flattened out at roughly 70 degrees C on top of the chips during a lengthy print of two tantillus XY ends. Just blowing a fan on them reduced the temp to 45 degrees C. Does anybody know roughly at what temps the chips shut down. Obviously the temp on top of the chip is not the same as the one inside the chip but there is probably some correlation. I'm using chiby Andersl - Tantillus
I'm getting exactly the same issue on my newly built tantillus. Has someone else experienced this recently and if so what was the solution? I'm measuring the temps right now to find out if I'm hitting the thermal limits of the drivers. I'm using drv8825'sby Andersl - Tantillus
I finally found some time to put everything together. It seems I worried a bit too much about the axis being to stiff to move since it doesn't seem to affect the printers ability to print out some nice parts. The main issue seems to be that when I printed the XY-ends the slicer put a layer change where the axis is screwed down causing it to not be square. I also printed it all pretty fast at 0.3by Andersl - Tantillus
Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. When I leave out the cross bars it moves quite nicely so I think I need to reprint the XY ends with a higher quality in order to make sure that there is no twisting on the XY ends when I tighten down on the crossbars (the holes for the cross bars are not perfect now). There seems to be some twisting going on now and it is the major cause of the stiff movement. Iby Andersl - Tantillus
Hi, I actually removed the carriage to eliminate its effect. I'm using a carriage from thingiverse made to accommodate E3D style hotends so the spacer is not used. Mine was also erroneously cut in 6mm acrylic by the AliExpress vendor. I couldn't find any posts where this binding was as big of a problem as I seem to have. I'm thinking that maybe it's the very smooth chrome plating on the rods thby Andersl - Tantillus
Hi, I'm slowly assembling my metric Tantillus build (after willworkforplastic's repo). Everything has gone well until now when I try to assemble the XY axis. I get severe binding in my PLA bushings, they run fine by hand but when I connect them with the cross bar they bind a lot getting into a stick/slip style movement. I also notice that when I change directions of the axis by twisting the corby Andersl - Tantillus
Hi, That snapshot would be useful when I start assembling mine soon. How about putting a .zip archive on Dropbox and sharing a public link? /andersby Andersl - Tantillus
