Depends on which electronics you use but generally there are a few options for slicing and running the bot.by johnbiehler - General
I own both a Thing-O-Matic and a Prusa Mendel. See the 3d printing section on my blog, linked below, for many posts on the build process for both as well as many photos and videos of the prints and their quality.. If you want to get printing right away, the MakerBot is the way to go. If you want to tinker and tweak, the Prusa is the way to go. The ToM has a clearly defined build guide. The Pruby johnbiehler - General
I've got a bunch of 16x2s I could sell you but only 2 20x4's which is what you need. I *just* received one from ebay that is identical to the Gen 4 that cost $9.80 from ebay: I need one for my Prusa and one for another project I'm working on. We can discuss on Saturday though as I may have a 3rd one...will have to check. PS Brad: open invite to my place Saturday afternoon...Kurtis is comingby johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Doh! You know I'm in...I'll bring all my printers...likely 3 by summer (MakerBot, Prusa & Tantillus).by johnbiehler - Canada, Vancouver RepRap User Group
I should be there.by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Your best bet is to buy a kit online from Mixshop.ca or ebay....sourcing metric parts is tricky locally. Alder Auto and Fastenal should have some of those though.by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Hey Derek...what are your thoughts about a printer table that has parts/prints/prusa kits for sale vs simply a table for the reprap group? Just debating if the cost/trouble would be worth the effort to get a table to sell stuff vs simply showing our printers.by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
They've said from the beginning that everything will be released when the Replicator ships. It hasn't shipped yet but is due to any day now. Seems pretty straightforward to me.by johnbiehler - General
Have you worked on your prusa at all Colin?by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Heh...we've been chatting about this on Facebook. Sounds like myself and Derek are interested so far...by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG

Running a die up and down the rod should smooth it out nicely. My threaded rod had a few tiny burrs that made it a little rough before I ran the die up it slowly.by johnbiehler - General Mendel Topics
Nevermind...I can make it now...my flight isn't until later in the afternoon on Thursday.by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
I may not be able to make it as I'm flying to Austin the next morning. Put me down as a maybe (assuming I get all packed in time). Johnby johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Interesting...I emailed as well and was told that those printers (ToM clones) are for wholesale purchase only at large volume and I basically couldn't buy one.by johnbiehler - For Sale
I tried for a few hours yesterday to switch to Marlin from Sprinter and couldn't get the axis to work as expected and it disregarded my mechanical endstops, regardless of settings. This was with the latest build and one from at least a few weeks ago. Gave up and went back to Sprinter...will try again once I have a chance to read up. Was using it with RAMPS 1.4.by johnbiehler - RAMPS Electronics
Sorry...I've got no experience with Gen 6 electronics...I'm using RAMPS 1.4 @ 250000 baud (previously 115000). I didn't have to install any drivers on my setup although I had previously used Arduino software which comes with everything I believe. Sounds like your ports aren't configured/chosen correctly if you're just getting "Connecting..."by johnbiehler - General
Or you can use the native OSX app Kliment now offers for Pronterface: It also works fine with the Mountain Lion preview.by johnbiehler - General
Eugene & I were able to determine that A2A (while a spammer of this forum) is simply a friend of the Mixshop folks...and an earlier version of their site was almost a blatent copy of Mixshop. It seems to have evolved somewhat. I've seen the filament from Mixshop and it's very similar to Ultimachine's...the big difference over Ultimachine is the speed of delivery...I can get filament from makby johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. Hey guys. I *may* not be able to make it out tonight which is a bummer since I have a few decent prints from my printer finally! Something has come up that I may need to tend to but I won't know for sure until later today. So, if I'm there, awesome! If not, you know why. Brad: I have the Mega board...if I don't make it out tonight, we can arrange another time to get it to you.by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Skip Skeinforge and use Slic3r instead. A lot less confusing options to play with. Start here for a great tutorial:by johnbiehler - Canada, Vancouver RepRap User Group
Does the $317 kit (which looks to be a Thing-o-matic clone in the photo) include ALL the parts (electronics, extruder, rods, power supply, etc) or just the acrylic frame?by johnbiehler - For Sale
Sorry, just saw this post now. I truly do hate the notifications on this sub forum (the others work fine). Did you still need prusa parts? I can do SAE, I'd just need to slice the files. Check out my store for current filament color options: We can arrange local pickup (possibly at a meetup) if you'd like.by johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
I can't meet on the 8th...already double bookedby johnbiehler - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
If you can't run Sketchup, it's doubtful your Mac could run any other package. As far as user friendly goes, that will be up to you to decide. You may also want to check out since it's browser based...although given your Mac, it may not have the horsepower to run it either. I did a post about it recently: You'll need to use Chrome or Firefox (latest versions) to use Tinkercad.by johnbiehler - Reprappers
You'll need to be more specific about software: what do you want to do with it? As has already been mentioned, Google Sketchup and Blender are available for the Mac. Also, Meshlab, Pleasant 3D and others are also freely available.by johnbiehler - Reprappers
You're likely going to have to upgrade that computer to run any of the decent software packages (at all), let alone at a decent speed. There are a plethora of 3d printers out now, most of them derivatives of the reprap Prusa mendel. Not a lot of preassembled ones out there other than through a service or via MakerBot. I bought a Thing-O-Matic kit first and now I'm fighting to get my hot end worby johnbiehler - Reprappers
Yes, that is correct - you'll only need Arduino software installed if you're planning on updating your firmware again.by johnbiehler - Reprappers
You shouldn't have any trouble running Pronterface with Lion...I have it running great although there is a fair amount of dependancies to get it running that Kliment has outlined on his github. But he's also released a native OSX app version now that makes it super easy: I found it while troubleshooting an upgraded version I was trying to install where I had issues with one of the dependancieby johnbiehler - Reprappers
