Really cool idea. Thumbs up.

I recently started printing again and chanced upon some old PLA filament kept well, and here is what I found out.
The PLA is not as flexible, and has bubbles in them. They do not give popping sound like in ABS so I am not too sure if they are due to moisture. They also are to a great extent dependent on the print temperature.
Anybody has any idea what is going on?

From my experience, the extrusion in free air is pretty close to the nozzle size.I was getting 0.4-0.5 from a 0.4 nozzle.
Are you trying to find out the nozzle size or is it part of a bigger problem? You can consider getting one of those nozzle cleaning sets of aliexpress/ebay. Just go thru the sizes and you can find out the nozzle size.

You can look for aliexpress for that. I recall seeing a couple of prusa i3 kits with injection molded PC.

Hi:
I'm pretty new to 3d printing, I got a Davinci 1.0 and I decided to start using Simplify3D.
I'm currently getting a pattern in my layers, it seems that every few layers there is some kind of offset. I getting the pattern in everything I print, specially when printing at 0.2.
Attached you will see what I'm talking about and hopefully someone can help me out.
Thank you,

And so, my problem is solved. It turns out that lowering the print speed made the problem go away.
The clue that gave it away was that only the layers without infill were fine. This is because with 3 perimeters, the cooling setting on slic3r slowed the printing speed down to give allowance for cooling. Hence the layers without infill were pretty "circle".
On the other hand, the layers with

Paul, thanks for your input!
The picture above is after following your settings, much much better although the polygons are still visible.
And then I decided since I was printing so many of these small gears, I might as well make them usable. (since the ones printed previously have no infill)
So I made 20% infill and above was the print. The polygons were back with rage. Damn.
And then

I looked at the STL file in Meshlab. Your printer is trying to do what the STL contains- Notice two corners in the base right near the grub screw hole- your print has two corners there, too. It looks like your printer may be overextruding a bit- did you use the correct filament diameter when you sliced? Have you calibrated the extruder?
The STL file came from Sketchup

Hi Chngyian,
When you attach STLs please first slice with Output Options, Verbose Gcode turned on.
You may have to link them to Dropbox etc if they are over 514k.
I can view the segment details in my gcode debugger.
the link to the verbose gcode is above.
link to the stl is above
one update is that when I tried to print again, it seems that the edges are better this time

Hello guys, need some help with the perimeters of circle.
Here's what happened, I printed the ones in white a few years back with KISSlicer. Now, since it's kind of dead I decided to switch to slic3r.
Although the STLs are the same, I am getting polygons instead of a true circle on the blue ones. Just wondering how do I go around solving this problem
Spent a few hours google but can't seem to

QuotePrintsperation
Hi everyone!
Have been printing fine for a good while now but lately I have begun to notice these strange blobs randomly on my prints. I have no idea why this keeps happening. It seems to be my nozzle extrudes too much filament at certain points for some reason. Has anyone seen this before? And if so, what was happening and what's the fix?
Looking forward to hearing people'

what hotend are you using now? there is a chance that the e3d hotend is compatible with the hotend mount you have right now.
if so, just remove your current hotend, install the e3d and connect the wirings.

Thanks for the help, do you recommend any other kinds of hot ends under 30 usd?
I think for that price range you can look at e3dv6 lite and aluhotendv7.

You mean you want to invert the direction of the z axis? You should be able to do that in the firmware, depending on which one you are using but shouldn't be too different.

Is there a ptfe liner for the e3d style hotend? if not then perhaps you can try printing with abs and see if the problem persists.
my experience with all metal hotends is that they don't print pla well, because the expanded bulb sticks to the walls of the hotend very well (unless you polish till mirror finish). of course, many here have printed pla with no problem and ymmv.

You can follow the link to get some teflon sleeves, or you can just wrap the leads with kapton tape if you have some lying around.

Only on one half of the print or uniformly throughout the whole print? Could be the axes are not squared.
I would guess one of the following:
1) Too thin wall thickness. If i'm not wrong it's a single wall print? The layers might not be deposited properly due to small variance in filament thickness or a slightly off extruder step calibration. Try printing with 2 or 3 layer wall thickness
2) Too

e3d just released the lite6 hot end not too long ago, which is basically a e3d hotend but with a ptfe liner. see the link below.
not related to them in any way, but i just thought it's a pretty good price for a hotend from e3d. been using the v5 for a year now and the performance is just unbelievably good.

Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Sounds interesting, looking forward to how it turns out.

This question crossed my mind when I was starting off with 3d printing, and I went with Prusa i3. It's the easiest to understand with XYZ axis and probably the most reprapped machine. Heh, personal opinion of course. Feel free to poke around the forum and look for something you like.

you can pretty much use any fan of the similar size, shouldn't cost more than a couple of bucks for a cheap one.

Thank you, Is it still good without using of fan?
I think it's better to say that it's not designed to be used without a fan. The heat would travel up via the metal heatsink and jam up the extruder. Any reason why you would not want to put a fan on?

It looks really chunky. Maybe you can start by making sure the extrusion width and layer height is correct?

Just a wild guess here; could this be due to the triangular structure? I mean the extruder with the motor is definitely not light, and at higher speeds the structure is going to deform slightly.
One way to cross out this possibility would be to print at ultra slow speeds, if the problem is no longer there then viola. If it still hangs around.... it's time to crack our brains.

Hey RepRappers, have a really strange problem that is bothering me. That is I'm using an extrusion width of 0.4 infill extrusion width of 1.
My setup:
- Pusa i3
- KisSlicer
- Repetier
It has been there for so long and I can easily solve it by using the extrusion width settings above so I didn't pay much attention. My guess is that KisSilcer is behind this thing, but I just couldn't get other sl
