@Vizual54 When it does launch, we'll still be shipping the current nozzle in the kit as standard. The new one will be part of a secondary upgrade kit that includes the new nozzle, electronics upgrade board, wiring and things of that nature. Hi Pete The firmware is being updated pretty much constantly. I don't think any of the recent updates should matter if you didn't update them both simultaneously but its normally good practice just to be sure. Rhys

Hi Pete The Slave init test on the master just checks that sensible temperatures are being reported. The initial problems you encountered were most likely due to communication issues between the master and the slave, this should be fixed in the latest firmware release. You can send the master board an M111 command, this will turn debug mode on the slave. If you then open up arduino, and have a

Is the plate actually flat? A piece of glass comes with the kit, this is pretty much guaranteed to be flat, so if the plate is bent it should be obvious to spot any gaps by putting the glass ontop of the aluminium. However, in my experience of the Mendels, if the 2 Y smooth rods aren't perfectly parallel and aligned it is possible for the Y frog to twist giving the symptoms you describe.

Alzibiff - Z wobble is a bit of a pet hate of mine, but you can normally tell because the shadows/colour aren't quite consistent - I know I'm a bit picky! Although some colours are alot more forgiving than others. As I say, aramaniac and Iceman's prints looked superb, but just the consistency of OoiTY's prints knocked it over the edge but it was a tough call

Well it's decision time. Overall the standard was really high, and it was pretty tough making a decision - pretty much everyone was a contender. Jaramaniac and Iceman both had really nice prints on the whole, but it seems like there is a little bit of Z wobble. Sat under my bed is a 100m coil of 1.75mm Faberdashery arctic blue PLA, not to sound like a commercial but I've tried filament from loads of sources over the years and their filament is the best by quite a margin, even if it is the most expensive. I should say that just because he's retiring from the University does not equal leaving the project. If anything he's going to be working on it more than ever. As an aside I'll also be leaving the University soon, although I won't be going anywhere either As far as foundation, there is a core team consisting of about 15-20 people (I've lost count), including most of the notable developers. Hi All I thought it'd be fun to revisit a classic print, Yoda-Lite by Faberdasher. Link I've always struggled to get nice prints at super low layer heights, To be honest I find my prints start to look a little worse once I get below 0.15mm. @Richrap Very nice print and well observed. Looking closer at my print I think I'm seeing a similar effect with the drooping, I might try backing of the line width a bit and trying it again.

@richgain Its black Makerbot abs, but it appears dark blue under bright lights, I think I lucked out on the photo. I'm using Slic3r 0.72b and I guessed at a lift of 0.2mm. I only did that one print, so I'm not sure if I actually need it. I tried upgrading to a newer version of slic3r but for some reason the print quality got worse for me, I'm 99% sure it was in part due to them reversing the o

I could use either. There is something funny going on though, I sliced one and then had a change of plan and resliced with different settings and the slice time went from 15 minutes down to 90 seconds, I hardly changed anything. I am running the github version though rather than the official release.

This is almost certainly due to acceleration. How big is the part your trying to print? If its small you'll won't reach max speed even on the slower settings....

It was printed on an eMaker/RepRap Pro Huxley with one or two minor changes. I find the overhang tip is a general rule, but the problem with having fat walls is it makes the solid fill not quite so nice, so if the print is fairly basic I tend to turn it down a bit

I find the main benefit is it makes the whole thing much easier to tune, presumably as the forces are so much lower and the extra "gearing", but when tuned properly there isn't much benefit at all.
