This is probably way off the mark, but its a forum and for me its 50/50, I'm either wrong or right I hope you don't mind me taking a wild stab at a guess.
I don't suppose you have the z-axis too low and/or steps wrong, then a dragging head is causing the bed to shift therefore only effecting the solid layers until there is enough room and layers for it to sort itself out?
I'm probably wrong bu

I haven't been to one yet, but something I would be looking for is a very casual atmosphere where people can openly chat about issues they are having and discuss new ideas/materials/printer/etc...
As with nearly all social events its normally the people who make it successful not the event itself.

Alzibiff - Thanks for the nice comments. The brim is hidden by the object, its just 4mm around the place where it touches the bed. I've added a pic to this post which shows the brim a little better.
richgain - Thanks,
Retraction = 1.5mm @ 20mm/s
Travel Speed = when not printing 130mm/s
BTW, its an awesome Mendel90 from nophead. (well would be awesome if it wasn't me calibrating it )

Hi Stewart,
It sure is quiet... Thanks for the offer, but as you guessed a little far for me at the moment. Fingers crossed it picks up a little, I've started to see if there are any hack spaces locally as its the sort of place us geeks/techies may be involved in.
Good luck at Maker Faire in Newcastle
PS. you probably know, but the website link in your signature isn't working.

No one else may think so, but for a beginner with no real experience and just trying to bumble though setting his printer up. This is my first attempt at pretty much anything complex with over hangs. I'm chuffed even though there are plenty of issues. It seems this print shows up issues I didn't even realise I had. Maybe a bit more retraction would get rid of the string, but not sure why the prof

I could be wrong here, but I was under the impression even nophead used support when printing this part (I thought I read it somewhere).
Plus to add to that I've seen a few posts saying slic3r 0.9.9 possibly has issues with bridging, which probably doesn't help.

Are you sure you have got the first layer height correct? And the first layer extrusion amount set correctly?

Clean the bed whilst warm with appropriate cleaner. I use window cleaner or acetone, and occasionally when doing large prints, venture into using pva glue mixed with water or just trying out some kapton tape but pla sticks too well.

I second the mendel90 from nophead, great printer, great service and communication. Not a single issue through the whole transaction. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.
The kit comes with a great set of step by step instructions and doesn't need any tools people like us wouldn't have. I'm over the moon with mine.

Not long started out, and was hoping an event may happen in the area for a bit of show and tell etc...(Wiltshire hopefully).
..........but it seems like a bit of a ghost town?

Oops, didn't notice the lifting for some reason. If using PLA, I found a quick wipe of the glass with acetone before printing normally fixed sticking issues with small prints, or a mix of PVA glue and water brushed on the bed for larger prints.

I had this issue, but to a lesser extent. After much playing with calibration prints etc.. It has almost gone on every layer although my prints stil aren't perfect yet . I doubt its a hardware issue.
I'm not 100% sure which setting fixed it, but re calibrating my extrusion multiplier and also tweaking my z-lift were around the time the problem minimized/disappeared.
BTW: still using slic3r as s

I've just built a new Mendel90 thanks to nophead, and first prints are looking quite good. But due to constantly wanting to tinker and improve can some one help with the below pictures.
3mm abs
0.3mm layers
70% fill
top/bottom 3 layers solid
0.4mm nozzle
Bed 110c
Extruder 225c
ABS juice (strangely doesn't work that well for me no matter little abs or lots).

Ahh ok, no problem. It'll be a while before it finished so I'll hold off for the moment if ok, as I'm not sure how the filament I've already ordered will come, therefore I may take you up on your kind offer in a few days if still available.
Yes I have had a tracking number but it didn't mention who or where it was from only the delivery company name. I was wondering if it could be the kit! You'

@nophead Really cheeky I know, but any chance I can have an empty spool with the kit I've just ordered? Unless its already packaged up/left/etc...
(like a kid in a sweet shop waiting for the kit.....big grin thinking about it, sad but true)

I could be way off the mark here, but is there not a little more to add to the total from repraper.com being delivered to the UK?
Isn't there the potential of +6.50% import duty, then VAT, and then a handling fee from the courier? Sorry just trying to work out my options buying here in the UK.

Hi,
New user in the Calne, Wiltshire area.
I've just got on the list for a Mendel90 and hopefully should have it with me by the end of the month.
Can't wait to get it build as the other half already have lots of things she wants to make for the house. I'm not sure I'll ever get the chance to use it for myself. I'll probably have to go back to something she doesn't like
