Got my hands on some 2GB sandisk ultra SD cards, which don't change anything. Tried sd slow with no luck.by James G-J - General
My version only has the line #define SDSLOW, nothing with SPI. Does that mean there's only one reduced speed I can use? And I'll have to order a small card then as nowhere local sells small full SD cards. Is there a brand that you would recommend? And maybe try 2GB this time?by James G-J - General
How can you adjust the speeds? I just see the line to uncomment but how can I tweak it?by James G-J - General
What do you mean by setting sdslow? Where can I find that line in marlin and what do I do to set that? Edit: found it in configuration.h but had no effectby James G-J - General
Yup I've tried two different Kingston 8gb microSD with SD adaptor, same result with bothby James G-J - General
I've been using the SD card reader on my reprap discount smart controller for a little while now with no issues until the other day it suddenly stopped reading the card. The card works fine through the computer, and the files show up. When inserted into the printer, it says 'card inserted' but says 'no sd card' in the menu. I've tried erasing and reformatting the card with no success. Any suggby James G-J - General
where are the movement values in eeprom? i can only see the preheat temps. eeprom is on though and i've been using it. When i check the values from within the lcd menu they are the same as the ones in the configuration fileby James G-J - General
So I've been printing successfully for a little while now and recently my reprap on RAMPS 1.4 and Marlin started printing as if it was set to accelerate at like 50mm/s^2 instead of the 3000 I had been slowly working up too and printed successfully a few times. I was printing at 30 - 60mm/s before w travel at 50 - 75. It still travels as fast as it did before with hard acceleration, which is greby James G-J - General

that really sucks, but thanks a lot for the quick reply that's much appreciatedby James G-J - General
Anyone know if it is possible to flip the orientation of the standard LCD for RAMPS 1.4?by James G-J - General
I've machined multiple hot end heater blocks with varying success as far as leaks (between my PTFE tubing and brass heater block), but the most recent and most carefully done has just started leaking and I'm out of ideas as far as making a thread work. I've tried using stupid amounts of teflon tape around it too but it always ends up leaking after a certain amount of time. Even tried JB welding tby James G-J - FoldaRap
For anyone who has this problem: -I suspect i blew out my old drivers when I just started and didnt know what I was doing -My new DVR8825 drivers have identical pins except the order of the coils and so you cannot follow the labels printed on the ramps you have to follow the same pattern on the bottom of the driver (i had to switch the 2nd and 4th wires to my connector) -Also, use your multimeteby James G-J - General
Thanks paul, I will look into that as I can see why these guys cant be trusted too much, though I did end up finding a broken connection (of course) and everything seems to be running alright, which is blowing my mind!!! it still hasnt quite set in yet, being able to home all axis and move them the correct distances (calibrating with my leadscrews was a pain haha) after months of watching everythby James G-J - Reprappers
Hi there Atom, awesome idea by the way, I recently got my printer motors to behave after months of problems and was inspired by your glow plug idea for my repstrap (I didn't follow your design but mine's very similar all with hand machined aluminum). I'm just now at the point of testing all my thermal components and using PID autotune and such but I dont think my glow plug is putting out any heatby James G-J - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Yeah they're In parallel directly through the two pinouts in my boardby James G-J - Reprappers
Ive tried flopping things in every combination and this is whats happening. One of my actuators always behaves and the other always goes down no matter what I tell it to do, though it is smooth an in time with the other motor. With my x axis removed and a little push it'll change direction but with the load it doesnt seem to have the strength to chose to go up (and they both seem to accelerate acby James G-J - Reprappers
What exactly do you mean? my other axes do exactly what you explained but the two separate z actuators seem to be acting like a delta printer homing where the side with the endstop will home but the other side is expecting to find an endstop (as if it were a sort of auto levelling of z axis) is there even a spot on ramps for two z max endstops?by James G-J - Reprappers
Thanks everyone everything seems to be working the way it's supposed to (reallllyy exciting) I'm messing with my z axis now and noticing some more weird things. I managed to setup the config file to have max endstops the way I intended and sometimes I can get both vertical platforms to move together (sometimes they go opposite directions but I think I resolved that issue, pretty sure it was accelby James G-J - Reprappers
So i played with the wiring and with the same pattern as on the new driver board and not on the ramps the motor seem to be behaving. This is a big deal to me so i want to say thank you for the quick and intelligent help!!! guys like you help guys like me through a lot of bullshit and it is very much appreciated. Things still seem to be kindof off though so if you happen to know why my motors wouby James G-J - Reprappers
Also, ggherbaz if you could be so kind as to explain how the hell I turn off the auto levelling z axis stuff, I understand the rest but I really don't know too much about this stuff. I don't have any extraneous sensors, my setup is the simplest RAMPS 1.4 electronics to get the thing working so if there's anything else you could think of too that'd be great. I went through some tutorials in how toby James G-J - Reprappers
those are supposed to be B )by James G-J - Reprappers
haha i think there was some miscommunication there ggherbaz, I'm not even concerned with z yet so the values for it are pointless until I get at least one axis working (same with extruder, I haven't even wired the heat element, mine is a glow plug from a diesel engine, though the thermister works properly). Thanks a lot for the insight into the code I'll go switch those couple things and get backby James G-J - Reprappers
This is what my configuration.h looks like at the moment though it should be noted that my printer likes working with federates or 150, and 500, acceleration of 3000, and has similar success rates with all different micro stepping options (though as micro stepping increases the pitch of horrible shaking noise decreases). When trying to home the axis, sometimes it will simply take off in a directiby James G-J - Reprappers
Wow all this attention is overwhelming I had to wait days for a reply on my other post, thank you all very much!! I'm really excited to work through this I'll start with my power supply details, is from the back of an old desktop tower, it's a Power Man FSP300-60BTV with a DC output of, +3.3V-28.0A , +5V-30A , +12V-15A, Max output 300W. Calling smart people of the reprap world, I've been building my own 3d printer for about 3 months now and have had SIGNIFICANT problems with my stepper motor control. Since the get go it was tough to get the test code running properly (just getting them to move) and even with small successes along the way I'm still stuck with barely any real progress made and starting to feel pretty defeated. Iby James G-J - Reprappers
I've also swapped out my pololu Aa4988 drivers for some newer better quality DRV8825 and increased my federate to 500mm/s since the motors wouldn't work at all at any lower speedsby James G-J - General
Hey again, So I've been busy with some things but been tweaking the printer and now I can get it to move quickly, smoothly, and almost every time. However, even with the same federate (but in mm/s instead of mm/min) it acts completely differently and still makes a very loud noise with very little if any net motion in one direction. I've also noticed that the printer seems to randomly pick theby James G-J - General
Thats right, I've tried the other wiring options but this is the only one where the motors will spin properly even sometimes. And Ive been testing the current every time i make any progress, I've seen what it does and I've found the 'sweet spot' a number of times but it doesn't mean the thing works every time, still seems to kindof do whatever it wants. I thought it might just be my cheap steppeby James G-J - General
Thanks, I went back to the defaults and have been playing with the numbers again with some success. I can usually get the homing smooth but its tough to find numbers that'll work for both homing and regular travel. And even still sometimes they will stall and hum. If i go to the defaults or anywhere close the motor will whine like its being asked to move way faster then it ever could. I have leby James G-J - General
