ok. thanks for the info. The instructions say not to go over 240C for the hotend so i thought that was the limit. The PETG i was looking at wants to be around 250C. Have you tried PETG yet? I was looking for a material that would work for parts inside an engine bay and PETG looked pretty good. Or nylon. I think the original parts were nylon.by broccolini - Mendel90
Ok, thanks. The hairspray has been working great, but i'm going to try changing the temp settings to see if I can get it to work with just the glass. I've been cleaning it with acetone so it should be clean. Other than the adhesion issues, it's been printing great. The z axis is making some squeally noises. I cleaned the smooth rods and lubed the threaded rods but it didn't help. I also wanted tby broccolini - Mendel90
Ok, thanks. that sounds like what was happening. Right now my bed leveling calibration square is printing at .29-.31 all the way around. It's set to print at .30 so that seems good. It just won't stick well to the bed. When it was too close, it stuck really well. Should i leave it where it is and try different temps for the bed or tape, hairspray? something like that? Or slow down the print speeby broccolini - Mendel90
well i went through and did all the calibrations again. now the first layer is printing at about .34, which is a lot better. i'm going to adjust the z offset again and see if i can make it better. I think i just did the math wrong the first time. But now i'm having issues getting prints to stick. hopefully adjusting it again helps with that. Cura also seems to forget to use the center of the bby broccolini - Mendel90
I've recently started using my printer after a couple of years. I dusted it off, checked the calibrations, and downloaded Cura. I added some silicone pads under the glass to replace the metal clips that held the glass on because i was having problems with the fan shroud hitting them. After doing that, i rechecked the z offset because the glass sits a bit higher. I had to get an older version ofby broccolini - Mendel90
QuoteQuackingPlums If you are using a mac and delete items from the SD card then a .Trashes folder will be created. Ugh. Mac's propensity for hiding files is maddening sometimes. I had no idea it did that. Do you like Repetier better than Pronterface? All of this software is very new to me so I'm not really sure which is better.by broccolini - Mendel90
It's the SD card that you sent with the kit. All I've done is move the files on to my computer. I don't know if my Mac would just add a trash can to it, but I'll check. Thanks for the help.by broccolini - Mendel90
This is the error message: Attempted to write invalid text to console, which could be due to an invalid baudrate /TRASHE~1/502/ANDROID.G End file listby broccolini - Mendel90
I'll check to see if there is a newer version. I've gotten it to make the android test print. It looks pretty good. I haven't been able to make it print from the sd card. I saved the gcode on the card and renamed it with all caps under 8 letters. When I try to print from the card, I get an error.by broccolini - Mendel90
I got it to show up. I was putting it too deep in the directory. It just needed to be in the hardware folder, not the library folder.by broccolini - Mendel90
The Melzi board doesn't show up in my Arduino menu. I copied the 'Melzi' folder into the the Arduino library and restarted the program. I'm on a Mac. I put the 'Melzi' folder into users/documents/arduino/libraries I also tried right clicking on the application to show the contents and adding it to the resource library there. Still not showing up. I'm not sure what else to try. Thanks.by broccolini - Mendel90
Changing the default values worked. I'm not sure why it wouldn't use the 5mm that was already in there, but I changed it to 4mm and the extruder motor worked fine. Thanks for the help.by broccolini - Mendel90
I haven't entered a speed and distance, but it looks like they are set to default at 5mm/100mm per minute. I'm not in front of the printer right now, but I'll make sure there are values in those boxes when I try again. Thanks.by broccolini - Mendel90
I hope I understand what you mean... It sounds like you are talking about actually extruding plastic with the hot end on. This test was just to test the extruder motor without actually running plastic through it. It's this test in the manual: Check the the extruder feeds forwards when the “Extrude” is pressed and backwards when the “Reverse” button is pressed.. I've just finished up my Mendel 90. The build went smoothly, but I've run into an issue with the testing. When I try to check the extruder, Pronterface gives me this message: Length is 0, not doing anything. I've never used a 3D printer and all of this software is unfamiliar to me, so I have no idea what that message means. I did send the M302 command because Chris mentions that I might need toby broccolini - Mendel90
