Does $H work ?by arthurwolf - Smoothie
They are the same pins and it shoud be possible to get it to work.by arthurwolf - Smoothie
Ok, yes, I'm aware of the "extruder axis" hack. And yes, skeinforge did have some CNC milling options. You are *technically* right here. I'm not sure you've got a good connection to what users actually need/want though There are good reasons neither of these ever really saw any use, and users are so happy about the more recent developments around this.by arthurwolf - General
QuoteVDX ... the first Software with optional selectable CNC- and Laser-controlling was the original RepRap-Software in the 3rd or 4th iteration (could be around 2008 or -09). With "pulse-controlled" (not analogue) laser drivers any 3D-printing software can be used for laser-engraving/-cutting without changes in the firmware or G-codes - I'm only setting the "pulses per mm" ratio in the firmwareby arthurwolf - General
Smoothie was created years ago with as one of it's main goals the support of 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC milling ( and more ). Because of this we've been very attentive to following the Reprap Gcode standard ( wiki documentation ) for 3D printing, and the NIST stantards for CNC milling ( they are unfortunately incompatible. the early reprap folks didn't really think about how big/importanby arthurwolf - General
Hello. From your other post, it looks like you don't have a lcd, but an independent MKS display. Those displays don't use Smoothie's lcd panel, and are fully independent from Smoothie ( think of them as a small computer with software to control the board ). As such, they have nothing to do with the Smoothie documentation. Additionally, they are known for being closed source and very badly documeby arthurwolf - Smoothie
QuoteDr_aia I am 100% and totally lost at installing an lcd to the smoothieboard. Parts of the guide show up as not available and parts are just downright confusing. Which LCD do you have, and do you have an adapter for it ?by arthurwolf - Smoothie
Starting Z height is something you handle in your gcode file, it's generally not a big deal.by arthurwolf - Smoothie
Quotetwospoons Maybe an 'Idiots guide to Smoothieboard' is what some folks are looking for. This is *exactly* what is supposed to be. "Idiot's guide" was even the name of the draft ... Quotetwospoons A nice well defined example of how to set up the hardware and a matching config file to go with it. This works in the universe where everybody has the same 3D printer, and doesn't in our world .by arthurwolf - Smoothie
I'm fairly certain all your questions are answered in , did you somehow miss that page ?by arthurwolf - Smoothie
Smoothie lets you specify the resistance too, see the r0 value atby arthurwolf - Smoothie
But but ... there's a page just for that, that goes over the details :by arthurwolf - Smoothie
I believe Marlin documents the beta for each thermistor table, so you just have to find that beta in Marlin and provide that to Smoothie.by arthurwolf - Smoothie
Ok, I'm really sorry, I don't usually do this, but I think I'm giving up ... I don't understand most of what you say, and what I understand seems extremely illogical and unreasonable. You are very welcome to your opinion and spending your money however you want. I would really like for you to point out something *precise* in the documentation that is wrong. Also, you complain about some thingby arthurwolf - Smoothie
Quotemunchit1 how about just adding a 'begginers' set of instructions? . Hello again Munchit. As you know, this is a post about MKS, not about the Smoothie documentation, so our conversation is "poluting" this conversation. To make sure we can still discuss the issues you think the documentation has, I have opened another thread ( in the correct forum : Reprap/Smoothieware ), where I try my beby arthurwolf - Controllers
Hello. Munchit1 started a conversation about Smoothie's documentation in this post : link to other reprap forum post but because that post isn't about the documentation, I am moving the conversation here in a new post so things are easier to follow. If you want to read the conversation up to this point please see the link. For a short recap, he feels that one needs a degree to understand the cuby arthurwolf - Smoothie
Quotemunchit1 actualy write the manual that can be used by all, That is and has always been the most important criteria we all have in mind when writing the manual. Why you don't think it is, I'm not sure ... I actually get about once a week an email from a new person telling me how happy they are that the wiki is written in a way that is so easy to understand for a complete beginner like them.by arthurwolf - Controllers
Thanks everybody for the comments, I tried to edit the documentation taking them into account as best as possible. About Serial/UART, Smoothie actually has a ( non-USB ) serial port that is set-up by default, and as far as I know the TFT screens use that to talk to the board.by arthurwolf - Smoothie
QuoteCaptain_sq The termistor types have been quite static for a while. Any more types added not yet documented? Well, it's not like there are new thermistors being created that often on the market And for people who have an exotic thermistor ( which is very rare but happens ), Smoothie provides two different methods to use the datasheet to get it to work with Smoothie, so everybody without exby arthurwolf - Smoothie
Lots of users use Smoothie on Mendel and Prusa-type machines and are very happy with the results. More features, more movement smoothness, better planning, less print artifacts, much better documentation, very active development, active community of people ready to help you. Pretty much state of the art. I see OP mentions azsmz, before using azsmz or mks, users probably want to be made aware ofby arthurwolf - Mendel90
Users have been known to get mech-abl to work with Smoothie, but it requires 3 and-logic gates and a bit of ingenuity, you can't do it 100% in firmware ( yet ).by arthurwolf - General
We don't know. We are making a lot of progress, dozens of volunteers are working on it, but it depends too much on volunteer work to be able to have a timetable. It's a collosal project.by arthurwolf - General
That's a very rare point of view But we are working on making everyone happy, even the 50 extruders people. We don't have pricing info on the boards yet. Our current estimate is for v2-mini to be $60-$80, v2 to be $130 and v2-pro to be well over $200. We don't know the pricing for the extruder board.by arthurwolf - General
QuoteDjDemonD better than A4988s, drv8825, tmc2100, lv8729 whatever modes you run them in. Something better will come along. Smoothie now runs the A5984, which has the very good microstepping quality you'd expect from Allegros, but at 1/32 instead of 1/16, which is significantly more silent, and is getting very close to "going further makes it more silent but doesn't change accuracy" territory.by arthurwolf - General
I think you're confusing resolution and accuracy ( which the app note actually adresses ). I've actually looked into this *a lot* a year or so ago when doing research for what type of driver to use for Smoothieboard v2, and I'm very confident I'm right on this, however it feels like every time I have a conversation about this, it takes an extreme amount of time to get people to understand what'sby arthurwolf - General

Pour ce genre de choses, il faut tester. La tu vas tester, et ca va marcher, et du coup tu as juste perdu du temps a me demander alors que tu aurais pu juste tester et j'aurais pas eu a te faire un message et tu aurais avancé plus vite. Teste *puis* demande.by arthurwolf - RepRap Groupe d'Utilisateurs Francophone
Si tu suis la documentation, ca doit marcher, tu as pas a me demander avant d'essayer, essaye juste. Viens me voir si/quand ca marche pasby arthurwolf - RepRap Groupe d'Utilisateurs Francophone
