I'm wondering if I've done that by accident somehow. The only thing I've purposely saved is the pre-heat PLA and ABS temperatures in the "prepare" menu. Does that also save other settings in Panelolu? EDIT: I've just had a look under Control >> Motion and I can see a setting for Esteps/mm with a value of +0516.8 - that's it isn't it? If I paste my previous E_STEPS_PER_MM value ("((3200 * 3by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
Sorry I rounded up when I typed that without thinking - it's extruding 58.9 or something when I ask it to extrude 100mm so one side of the division is a float. I did at first try to calculate the compound difference with my previous setting but it was still bad so I assumed my maths was wrong and reset it to 1 before starting the whole process again. I've tried using both the "extrude 100mm"by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
I was flashing my firmware earlier to raise the 135C soft limit on my bed and thought I'd just double-check my E_STEPS_PER_MM whilst I was there. Prints were fine (actually they were VERY good - dimenionally accurate, good infill/wall widths etc) so arguably I shouldn't have touched it but hey ho, I did and I noticed something strange - running 100mm at 60mm/min resulted in a VERY low extrusionby QuackingPlums - Mendel90
Of course Chris is right. I must have been thinking of my end-code that returns the head to the top after a print, which (I think!) happens across all axes simultaneously. I've grown so confident with my printer that I don't even notice how it does simple things like auto-home any more!by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
I noticed this too but as Chris says it never happens to me in normal use - I'd have to print a 200mm high object that aligns with the left edge of the bed. The home procedure *should* make the x-carriage move to the top right as it auto-homes so I don't know why you're getting all the way to the top with the motor in its leftmost position. The only scenario I can think of is that the software iby QuackingPlums - Mendel90
I remember reading a thread here that the older (non-Brecoflex) belts weren't always perfectly cut, resulting in the reinforcing fibres not lying uniformly along the length of the belt. This could cause them to be severed if they were too close to one edge. I guess if this were to happen then the belt would suffer a stretch on one side that could cause the twist you describe? If you look along tby QuackingPlums - Mendel90
I have a small jigsaw-shaped modular tool holder that I printed recently on a plate of twelve (two rows of six). Inexplicably, two of the objects have different top layer solid patterns from the rest as can be seen here: The plate is generated via a simply for() loop in OpenSCAD and there is no Z offset difference across any of the objects. Certain operations take a lot longer than others. I tend to pay attention to the way I'm writing my code to avoid processor intensive operations or to delay them to a point where they're not subsequently being worked on by other operations (minkowski being a good example). I work on a variety of MBP and Windows platforms (all i7 with at least 8GB RAM also) and have noticed that whilst hardware dby QuackingPlums - OpenSCAD
I just settled on Repetier because it fits well with my workflow. I have it setup on all of my machines (a combination of Windows and OSX desktops and laptops) and I keep all my settings within a Dropbox shared folder so that any tweaks I make on one machine are automatically synced across every machine in my house. I've had *one* job fail that may or may not have been attributed to the USB grouby QuackingPlums - Mendel90
If you are using a mac and delete items from the SD card then a .Trashes folder will be created. Mount the card in its USB reader again, empty the trash, then eject cleanly. That should clear up anything in the .Trashes folder. Having said that, I forget to empty my trash can all the time and I have no problems when sending files directly to the printer from the SD or when using Repetier Host.by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
Ok let's deconstruct what's happening here; pasting the header from your gcode for reference: ; generated by Slic3r 0.9.9-dev on 2014-08-14 at 14:28:52 ; layer_height = 0.25 ; perimeters = 3 ; top_solid_layers = 3 ; bottom_solid_layers = 3 ; fill_density = 0.4 ; perimeter_speed = 30 ; infill_speed = 60 ; travel_speed = 130 ; nozzle_diameter = 0.5 ; filament_diameter = 1.66 ; extrusion_multiplieby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
There's a massive long thread somewhere about extrusion width over layer height, the cross-sectional profile of the 'line' of plastic as it is laid down on the print surface and how it interacts with the lines next to it, but the short version is that a 0.3mm nozzle should print at a width >0.3mm. If you think about how filament is extruded out of a circular hole, if you set the width to be thby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
Ok I just checked and zeroes mean "auto" in Slic3r-speak so that should make Slic3r calculate what it thinks is the best extrusion width - there is some debate about how good this is but let's assume this is fine for now since you are slicing/printing thingiverse files successfully. When I tried to slice your original file Slic3r complained about it being non-manifold (a common problem with CSGby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
My model was generated in OpenSCAD, not FreeCAD. If you're saying that this still slices and prints without top layers then it's not FreeCAD. I am not sitting at my printer at the moment so I can't double-check, but am I missing something in your config - why are all the extrusion width parameters set to zero?by QuackingPlums - Slic3r
I have no idea how you did this in FreeCAD (or indeed how you even sliced that .STL file!) but is this what you're trying to do?:by QuackingPlums - Slic3r
Slices fine for me - using 0.9.9 from within Repetier Host on OSXby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
Not that I've noticed. I've been meaning to punch a tiny hole through the single layer membrane to see if it helps (even if it results in a mess on the underside as a result of the 'hole' falling away) or possibly adapt the hanging holes method as described on Chris' blog here but have currently filed it under my long list of other yak-shaving activities...by QuackingPlums - Slic3r

Very impressive! How do you wind the Z-axis up and down? Will you post detailed instructions for those of us who would like to build our own scale models?by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
Hmmm. Interesting. I know the temperature fluctuates around the target temperature value but the M190 command should never be blocked by the bed never hitting its target! I'm sure you've checked already but is the bed getting enough power? Does M190 *ever* return control back to the host - is there a temperature below which the bed comfortably reaches its target and the print job starts? I was gby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
It sounds like the behaviour you've described is correct - if you need a higher first layer bed temp then set it in the filament tab. What problems are you having at 84.9C that you don't see at 85C? Extruders usually heat up much quicker than beds, so if you take out the M190 command then you will almost definitely notice that the bed is below temperature when the print starts - unless your extby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
My usual approach to this is to plate up several of the same small object at once, so by the time it has finished the layer on the other objects the plastic has had time to cool. Side effect is that I get multiple objects at better quality.by QuackingPlums - Slic3r
I'd love to attend but I suspect I'll be working on those days...by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
You're welcome If you want to have different profiles (ABS vs PLA, for instance) then it's useful to have the custom g-code use whatever values from your configuration tab but at a point in the generated g-code of your choosing. If you paste the following verbatim: M42 P004 S255 ; Switch on PSU G4 P500 ; wait for "post" PSU M190 S ; Use a substitution variable instead of explicit valuby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
As I said (and demonstrated in my code) if you use the parameters in the start G-code then this overrides the default values that get inserted at the top of your G-code by Slic3r. I remember reading that you can use any of the parameters in the slic3r.ini but the most useful ones are: S S You can use these with any of the M190/140/109/104 commands to heat up the nozzle/bed to the settings youby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
I'm not sure I follow what the problem is. Do you mean that you want to have some command to switch on the bed heater PSU, followed by the command to set the bed temperature? If so, then you can put substitution variables into the start G-code. For example, I do a bunch of moves and switching on of LEDs in my gantry before setting the first layer bed temperature, and my start G-code looks like tby QuackingPlums - Slic3r
In over a year of owning my Mendel90, today is the first day where I've gotten to the end of one of those tightly-wound 1KG spools of ABS (I have lots of colours so I tend to switch between them a LOT). I've noticed the filament has such a tight coil radius that it is causing the entire spool to lift off my rollers, rather than unravelling as normal. Are you still looking for a model of the Melzi board? I just knocked this one up quickly from the dimensions specified in the RepRap wiki and positioned all the components by eye (I'm not by my printer so I can't measure it directly) - is it good enough for a model?:by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
Have you read Chris' article on polyholes? I found that by using polyholes instead of circles for holes where my I.D. needed to be accurate (for screws, hardware etc) then the tolerances are pretty good.by QuackingPlums - Mendel90
