Meanwhile I've hit google to search for a method for repairing stl's and have used "netfabb cloud service" to repair my stl's. I've attached the fixed file by Netfabb, but the gaps still show up after slicing .by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi Chris, So they're not solid . Scratching my head now about what to do about it since inside Sketchup the model proves solid. Can it get non-manifold in the process of converting it to STL? I'm sorry if I'm asking these things in the wrong place. Just wondering if someone maybe recognizes this problem. Thanks guys, The gaps do show up in the print so it isn't just an artefact. The strange thing is that when I slice only one segment or block of the "dodecagonal" model the gaps don't turn up in the block (photo attached). As soon as I add another segment the problem shows. I guess maybe it has something to do with the orientation (different angle ) of the blocks which causes problems for Skeinfoby Nilez - Mendel90
Hi all, I sliced the attached model with the PLA 0.2 profile with Skeinforge and was wondering why the gaps (marked in the pictures) appear in the sliced model? Hi numbersix, I totally forgot to reply to your above message. Meanwhile I figured it is indeed due to vibrational ripples. I'm printing with feed and flowrate at 60. The arcs used in Sketchup were divided into 96 segments. I also changed the design a bit but I would love to see how the part turns out on your printer so I'll mail you the stl. Hi all, I was wondering what would be a good way to calculate the cost of filament usage for a certain printed part. Can you just weigh the part on a scale and derive the cost from the weight and cost of the full reel (given the weight mentioned on the suppliers website is accurate)? Hi Garry, Yep, experiencing a high pitched squeak/squeal coming from the right z axes here too. Indeed only when it's moving downward. Had this since the beginning even though sufficiently oiled. Seems to be a little less after oiling but soon returns. I decided not to worry about it but the idea that this maybe due to some high friction or something isn't too soothing I must admit. Hmm.. I was just thinking about curved surfaces in Sketchup not being being true curves but more a connection of linear segments which are displayed like a smooth surface. Maybe the segments show up in the print again. The pattern in the picture is more pronounced at the far ends of the object though...by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi Richard, It was printed with a feedrate setting of 60 mm/s (flowrate the same) and the travel feedrate is set to 200 mm/s (standard setting in nopheads' PLA 0.2 profile). I believe that Chris has set the accelleration to 2000 in the firmware (instead of the former 4000). Now that you speak of ringing, I have attached a picture which maybe shows a further indication of this?by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi Chris, Yes it's PLA. That trick you mentioned might work because the object sits on the inside of a shell with the same inner radius so I could use that as a former. But I think I like the way it came out. As you can see in the picture mendel90 can handle the job with the upright slice I had to bump the brightness of the picture to show some more details of the object since it's printed in bby Nilez - Mendel90
Hi Neil Thanks. I should have mentioned that the rear surface is slightly curved. The curve has a radius of 6.5". I've sliced it upright in Skeinforge and although the print failed due to a lift from the bed, it managed to complete the holes which came out nice. Slicing it with the back surface flat should result in less support material though since the curve is pretty shallow, so I'll give thaby Nilez - Mendel90
The support structure came out too dense (lines very close to eachother) and bonded too strong to the object with Skeinforge. Guess I have to lower the support flow rate ratioby Nilez - Mendel90
Hi all, I'm posting this picture of a design I need to print. As I'm very new to 3d printing I would greatly appreciate it if you have any tips for slicing this object. For instance on the orientation of the object. Is it best to print it upright like in the picture, with support material underneath the wide overhangs and the tubular sections? I don't really understand what value has to be changed in the start.gcode file. I changed s185 to s210. Then the extruder heated up to that value but dropped to 185 again after. Seems to be printing perfectly at 185 C though with the red tape (even though it's rated 190-220)by Nilez - Mendel90
