Quotebill2k QuoteFilamomentous - it's to my, not the buyer's, disadvantage since a yard is slightly longer than a meter so in the "worst" case, they just get more filament than they expected. FYI, a yard is shorter than a meter. It is approximately 90 cm. You're right! Thank you! I misread the conversion when I looked it up -_-by Filamomentous - General
QuoteRalph.Hilton When I look at a site selling filament then I assume that they are selling filament imported from China unless they state otherwise. Faberdashery have a reputation for providing very high quality filament. I suspect that you'll have to drop prices a lot to compete. I would suggest that you do a lot more planning on your business model. It is not set up to get repeat business.by Filamomentous - General
QuoteNormandC Sorry but, are you aware that the overwhelming majority of the RepRap community (as the whole planet except for the US) works with the metric system, not the antiquated US/imperial system? So to most people a yard means absolutely nothing. Yes. I might consider switching to meters. Although I don't think that "to most people a yard means absolutely nothing". QuoteRalph.Hilton If you load a file into pronterface it will tell you how much filament is used in mm. Multiply by 0.001094 for yards. Thank you!!!by Filamomentous - General
QuoteRalph.Hilton Putting it in kg - 1kg of 1.75mm PLA is about 300 yards long. In your campaign you are selling 20 yards of gold/silver PLA filament for $8 which corresponds to $120/kg. From China the cost is about $11/kg + shipping. Interesting. I based the prices off of Faberdashery's (with some adjustments for more expensive filaments) since that's a business people seem to like (at least thby Filamomentous - General
Hi! I was wondering if anyone could suggest objects that can be made with less than 5 yards of filament, 10 yards of filament etc. I'm starting a 3D printing materials company that sells 3D printing filament by the yard (similar to Faberdashery but focusing more on weird, cool filaments like thermochromic etc.). This is both for my own personal interest and so people can gauge what a yard of filaby Filamomentous - Object repositories

Indiegogo Campaign Link I'm starting a Faberdashery-like filament by the yard business but with a twist. Footle will sell classic filaments as well as all the cool, unique awesome, weird filaments I've always wanted to try! Buying a whole roll of the stuff is expensive and 1 kg makes about 400 chess pieces so it's waaaaaaaay more filament than any one maker could ever need. The price range would probably be around $0.40-$0.55 per yard. I'd have to buy and measure the filament to figure out an exact price. I'm basing that off of what Faberdashery charges ($0.48 per yard) but novelty filaments are generally more expensive than standard filaments. I'm not trying to call out Faberdashery They're great, I just want different filament! Thank you for telling me that it coby Filamomentous - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements

Search "conductive filament" on Google.com. It comes up with a ton of results. Although, most conductive filament isn't great for electronics; it depends a lot on the complexity of the object and how much electricity runs through it. If you're trying to make circuit boards, 3D printing is really not the best way.by Filamomentous - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I'm sorry if this is not a good place to post this but since this forum is about making things for other people (in what I assume are mostly small quantities)... I'm starting a business that sells filament by the yard but specifically cool filaments like glow in the dark, wood-composite, stone texture, thermochromic, conductive etc.! Instead of paying $30-$40 for a giant 1 Kg roll which makes 3by Filamomentous - Job Shop: I make stuff!
In terms of getting parts printed, you can also upload them to Shapeways.com or do a google search to see if there's a Hackerspace or Makerspace near you with a 3D printer. Fabbr might be cheaper than Shapeways though; I really don't know.by Filamomentous - Reprappers
Link says it's in "DRAFT" mode. I'm a little sad haha. I love laser-cutting and I hate seeing people hate it because of their complete Illustrator incompetence (ours prints ai.'s; I don't know about other cutters). Hello! I got into the world of 3D printing several months ago and one of my biggest gripes has been the cost of filament. I mean $30-$40 for ONE color/material/property. I will never use an entire roll (that makes 392 chess pieces!!!). So, to fix this barrier for myself and others, I am starting a filament by the yard business.
