Yes, Faberdashery filament is expensive but it is also high quality. The range and opacity of the colours is excellent and the first layer sticks well. I have tried Faberdashery filaments as well as those at a third of the price. Personally for most purposes I find the cheaper stuff is perfectly acceptable and I generally use it when printing in bulk. But if I want really solid colours, perhapsby fac13 - General
I have a 1kg reel of Jet black 1.75mm PLA which I bought from amazon and I'm perfectly happy with it. I also use reprapper filament a lot and I've been happy with that too. I think people's experience varies partly because they are printing onto different beds. I have heated glass coated with dilute PVA, so pretty much anything sticks to it. I hit the same problem, and yes, the solution is to tell slic3r to "export" the configuration, and then change the pronterface options to point to that file. In the latest pronterface version that would be under Settings/Options/External Commands/Sliby fac13 - Slic3r
I use a PVA and water mix to prime my heated glass bed. About 20% PVA dabbed on and left to dry. It looks patchy when wet but dries to a nice, even, frosted look. PLA sticks really well to this - almost too well - even the repraper stuff which is notoriously difficult on glass.
