Hi all, Firstly, apologies for lack of activity on this forum. Is there still a requirement for holding a local face to face meeting? If there is enough interest I would be happy to restart a regular meet up. Please let me know your thoughts. Philby pawaller - Beds/Herts/Cambs RepRap Usergroup

Hi all, Has anyone had any thoughts/experience regarding changing to a Bowden extruder to get more z height with this model of printer? Or should I go the whole hog and convert to a Mendel 90? ;-) Regards Philby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
Hi all, Thanks to everyone who was able to attend last nights meeting. Hope you all got something out of it. I plan to set the next meeting for around 6 weeks time. As always, if there are any particular topics anyone would like discussed at a future meeting please post in this thread or just drop me a note. I will try and minute anything noteworthy if I can remember who said what :-) For exby pawaller - Beds/Herts/Cambs RepRap Usergroup
Hi All, Just a quick confirmation post as I have received a few emails asking if the meeting is definitely taking place. Yes it is .... 8:00pm Friday 19th April 2013 @ The Lounge, Biggleswade... Please if you can, bring along stuff to show (failures as well if you would like second opinions as to what went wrong ) as they are great conversation starters. See you all Friday Philby pawaller - Beds/Herts/Cambs RepRap Usergroup
Which firmware are you using? I understand that Repieter and Marlin firmware but have the capability to drive LCD screens/switches. I have also read that the Melzi does not have enough spare pins to do this, although the guy who has produced the Panelolu2 seems to have got it working... Please update the thread if you get any success, it is something I am looking into doing at some point :-) gby pawaller - Sanguino(lolu)
Proposed date of the 2nd meeting.... (just need to double check with the venue, if there are no further posts/emails then it is definitely on) 8:00pm Friday 19th April 2013 @ The Lounge, Biggleswade... Fantastic! Looking forward to the next issue. All the best Philby pawaller - RepRap magazine
A big thank you to all who made it to the 1st meeting, despite the horrible weather. I think I counted 8 of us, which was more than I was expecting to attend :-) I sincerely hope each and everyone got something out of the evening (I certainly did!), and it was worth attending. Sorry if I wasn't able to speak to everyone properly. I will arrange another meetup and post the date on this forum, ifby pawaller - Beds/Herts/Cambs RepRap Usergroup
Proposed date of the inaugural meeting.... 8th March 2013 @ The Lounge, Biggleswade... See their website for directions etc. We plan to start the meeting at 8:00pm but the venue is open all day and serves food etc if you get there early and are peckish! As 1st March is a problem for a few people and there aren't that many of us (yet) how about the following week, Friday 8th March @ 8pm I have spoken to the manager of "the Lounge" in Biggleswade.... and he can reserve a quiet section for us to use. How does that sound? Philby pawaller - Beds/Herts/Cambs RepRap Usergroup
Hi All, So far then we have 3 people from the Cambridge area and a few from MK/Leighton Buzzard, with myself in the middle!! Is everyone OK with meeting in the middle? I have a nice venue in mind (in Biggleswade), I will speak to the manager this Friday to see if it is possible to reserve a quiet area for us to use. How about Friday 1st March @8:00pm? Not sure how frequently people want to meby pawaller - Beds/Herts/Cambs RepRap Usergroup

Looks like the reprapkitstore will soon be no more. Following the install instructions for the kit from this site, my smooth rods for the Y axis sit above the cross member threaded rods but looking at a few images of similar models on the web, some people have fitted the smooth rods below. There does seem to be a bit of wasted space there, I could claim back 20 -30 mm of Z height if I put the roby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
Hello there!!! My name is Phil Waller, I live in Biggleswade, Beds. I have successfully built a Prusa Mendel. I am thinking of forming/joining a RUG for users in the Beds/Herts/Cambs area to share our experiences /knowledge and help others new to 3D printing. If there is enough interest we could meet up on a regular basis at a convenient venue. Please add your name / location if you interestedby pawaller - Beds/Herts/Cambs RepRap Usergroup

Hi, Looking for anyone in in the Beds/Herts/Cambs area to offer help/advice/share 3D printing war stories with like minded reprappers! If there is enough interest we could organise a regular meet up. Regards Philby pawaller - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Colin, The speed is correct, but I think the port will be specific to your PC (I am on a MAC which assigns ports a bit differently) Have you tried a different port from the dropdown list? I take it you have installed Python and the associated packages ... ? Are you powering the board from the USB connection, or the supplied ATX PSU? There is a jumper on the board to switch between the two. Tryby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
Hi all, Could someone with an experienced eye please take a look at the attachment and tell me if it looks right? I have set the first layer fill to 50% and it seems to me that I am still laying down too much PLA. I believe I have calibrated the extruder correctly. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Philby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
Hi All, Has anyone made/come across an STL file for a bracket to allow me to mount an ATX PSU to the frame of my Prusa Mendel? The only one I have come across on Thingiverse does not look big enough for the PC PSU which was supplied with my REPRAPKITSTORE printer kit. I am still at the stage of struggling to consistently print other's models, not yet confident enough to have a go at designing mby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
MotoBarsteward, Thanks. I started at 255 and worked my way down until the fan stopped working (about 120) and used that for my min setting :-) All working now. Philby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
ToMat, The jumper is the one on the far right of the Melzi board. The 2 pins need to be shorted together when you want to flash the firmware, in normal operation just hang the jumper off one of the pins to keep it from being lost. Obviously you need a successful compile before you can try uploading the firmware. Can't really help with the error message, I am on a Mac and it just worked. I have hooked up a 12v fan to my Melzi fan control. I can turn it on and off with M106 S255 / M07 without a problem. I have enabled fan control in Slic3r, but the fan never comes on during a print. Any suggestions? Thanks Philby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
Hi, I was in a similar position last week. I am sticking with Sprinter for the time being. I do not think it is possible to download or read the existing firmware on the melzi, you have to overwrite every time. The default settings were fine for me as a good starting point (in fact I think these were the values pre loaded onto the board)... I'm half way between Bedford and Cambridge. Just finished building a Prusa Mendel, going through the steep learning curve of actually printing out something at good quality!! Philby pawaller - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Thanks Clem, I couldn't see it for looking, must have been getting late! I have hooked up a 12v fan to the fan control but it never comes on under software control, so I need to play with the settings. Manually turning it on after the first layer at the moment. The single walled cube and circle test objects print out mostly ok (still goes a bit wonky if there is any height involved), but struggby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
Where exactly is slicer's "slow down if layer is below X seconds" setting? I cannot see it anywhere (running Slic3r on OSX if that makes a difference). Thanks Philby pawaller - General Mendel Topics
