Just more random uploaded shit STLs people find on the internet. TV is full of them.

This is very interesting! Going to give this a go. Don't see any reason this wouldn't work on my MakerFarm i3. It's floating on a nut at the top now, so changing it to floating on a little platform at the bottom shouldn't make any difference.

Hi there! It just so happens that there is a Surrey & Hampshire Hackspace that meets every Thursday in Farnborough. Check out our website (http://www.sh-hackspace.org.uk) or Google+ pages (http://groups.sh-hackspace.org.uk/) for more info. Lots of us currently into 3D printing, but also plenty of other hackery going on too. There are also often a few people hanging out on IRC in #sh-backspace

QuoteEdvardasRicardo, but Z axis motors are not doing all that much work, no? They are turning just a little bit every time new layer needs to be done.I think if you have some auto-levelling magic going on too, that can make the Z-axis move a LOT more than just once per layer.

I'm just getting my first printer in a couple of weeks, so deep-diving into this sort of stuff before it arrives. Very useful techniques in there for bridging the gap between procedural OpenSCAD and more organic parts.
Thanks!

Heh, nice. I've also seen some nice build-videos on YouTube that make it seem quite straightforward. Not exactly trivial, but " everything proceeded as planned", rather than "half the components needed filing, replacing, hacking"

Based on some advice here and in IRC, I'm leaning towards one of these Prusa 8" i3's from MakerFarm now -
Seems a bit more modern, and still allows for future expansion at some point. Price isn't as bad as I thought either - £420 ($700) delivered.

More than happy to self-assemble, I'm quite handy with that sort of thing.
How do the i3 printers stack up when it comes to upgrading to dual-extruder at some point? That's something that seems quite straight forward with the Mendel.
Finding a UK (or at least European) supplier would be good too, to keep the price down, and the delivery time.
i3 seems pricier too.

Greetings, makers.
I've been looking at getting a 3D printer for some years, but have only recently got some spare funds to actually do something about it.
I have initially been looking at the Makible Makibox A6 HT, as it seemed a fairly high-quality product for the price. Unfortunately I'm not sure how long it will take for one to actually arrive, as there seem to be quite some delays in manuf

The source is just C++ and Perl. Fork it from GitHub and use whatever IDE you want.
