An update
I found the following problems:-
Z lower mount is split
Z runner is cracked
one Z bearing clamp has one screw hole completely broken off
the Z nut trap is cracked
my long brass nut has play in it
I fitted a new Z runner and the new parts I am now printing apper to be OK with no Z banding.
This has been a good lesson, My printer is printing most days and I suppose I should expect some

WELL DONE.
I have printed the Z runner at 0.2mm layer height. That and the cube when held against the threaded rod does fit in with the banding.
So next job is to remove the Z gears, rod and nut and check the play.
I'll post the results tomorrow.
Thanks to dc42 and dmould for all the help.

Thanks for the info.
Yes I do have the correct Z runner and it is tight, very tight, I have noticed that the screw holding the bearing is not square anymore. I think you have solved this problem, I will reprint another before I take the original apart. It could be that the rear bearing may be loose as well but I'll have to wait until it's removed.

What is the pitch of the banding in the cube print, and what layer height did you use?
It appears to be every third layer with the odd fourth layer, it is really hard to see with just a hand magnifying glass and my poor eye sight. The layer height was 2.4 mm
An earlier test print with the holes and curves was at a layer height of 2.0 mm and the banding pitch seems to be the same , every

I have been having a discussion on another forum and part of it was the Z banding I am getting on all prints. This problem was not so pronounced over a year ago but now it is spoiling the look of my prints.
My Y and X belts are tight and the Z gears have a little backlash in them but I don't think that is the problem.
It looks to me as if as the layers are built up there is a slight shift in th

Regarding the layer shift in the Y direction, did you print the adjustable Z runner that was released a couple of months after the initial Ormerod 1 release, and if so, have you tried tightening it? Also, have you tried asking on the Ormerod forum for suggestions? I don't recall seeing any mention of this problem there.
I don't know what you mean by '' adjustable Z runner '' I have an

@the_digital_dentist Thank you for the link to your build, I am learning a lot, great job
@dc42 I have a problem with my aluminum x arm flexing at the end in the Y direction by a large amount and I can't seem to eliminate it. It is likely to be affecting my print quality as I believe that the normal printing vibrations are then being transmitted to the nozzle..

I have an ormerod 1 at the moment and really like the duet control solution with duet web control, especially because it is so well supported by dc42 and ch.
I have been struggling for some time to improve the quality of my prints and came to the conclusion that I needed a different printer, but what to get? I have considered trying to design my own from scratch.

I see that your firmware is being names as:-

Is this correct?

Thanks dc42 for your continuing work on the duet firmware.
Reading the release notes, I was wondering how to use and what is the full description of the following codes:-

M667
I have a spreadsheet listing that was kindly supplied to me in Feb 2015 v1.10. It is now way out of date and I was wondering if you, or anybody else, had a listing that included the latest changes.

I have reverted to dc42's latest firmware and that is working well. However, I have DWC 1.07 installed and when I print a simplify3d gcode file I do not have any of the collected data, all fields are n/a except Print Duration which is stuck on 18s.
Also the printing progress bar is blue all the way across.
Whilst the ormerod is printing I have disconnected DWC and reconnected a number of times,

appjaws, thanks for checking this. If you don't have any G0/G1 codes in your tool change macros, could you try my latest 1.09o release and check if that already fixes your problem? I'll consider your suggestion about putting macro directories to the top in my next DWC version. I'll also check your report concerning the config file content on the web interface tonight. So I put T0 in my startup macro, the temerature for active changed to the set temp, which is fine but the Heater 1 remained on standby.
How do I switch it to active when the temperature has been reached without having to click the Heater 1 box?
I thought just putting T0 in the macro would have changed the state to active, so I must be missing something Here is the macro:-

I have just loaded a modified config without the T0 command. The DWC asks "You have just uploaded a config file. Would you like to perform a software reset now?", I said yes but I can see no difference, the config shown on the Settings page is the un-modified one. What exactly does the software reset of the duet do?

This Y homing problem is occurring as soon as power is applied with no computer connected.
The bed moves to the left and the end stop is activated but the Y motor continues to turn causing a grinding noise.
This behaviour did not happen before I updated to your firmware from dc42's and also updated DWC.

It looks as if using a higher spec than the original ormerod motors would offer little benefit.
I am thinking of using direct drives instead of belts
Do you think the amp rating of the original ormerod motors would be sufficient?

I am attempting to build my own designed printer, based on my ormerod, running the ormerod firmware on a duet board.
Is it possible to use Nema 17 0.9 degree 6 wire stepper motors?
If so how is are they connected and what changes to setup do I need?
another alternative is 1.8 degree 6 wire, or the ormerod 1.8 degree 4 wire.
Any help appreciated.

I had a similar problem with the quick set system.
I resolved it by increasing the hot end temperature from 193 to 203.

Thanks for the info,
I only have the ormerod, a nas and the main computer running at the moment, all via a netgear 10/100/1000 switch which is connected to the router.

What tests can I do to help resolve this?

You could use OpenScad's str() function to convert numbers to strings and concatenate strings, see here. E.g.
letter(str(Increment," mm step"));
Brilliant, thank you works great.
Is there a way to force 1 decimal place, at the moment I have Size=3.0, First=Size but if I use letter(str(First,".0")); I get just 3 not 3.0

I have only seen the use of lettering when the actual letter/numbers are defined.
What I would like to do, if possible, is to have a routine that will print a letter/number that has been calculated.
This is what I have at the moment ( with a lot of help)
Size=3.0;
NumHoles = 8; // Number of holes
Gap = 2.5; // Gap between holes
First=Size; // Diamater of first hole
Increase=0.05; // Radius size

I thought I had managed to solve this but running it shows that the smaller the hole the larger the gap
gap=4;
difference(){
cube([200,18,3]);
for(i=[0:19]){
translate() cylinder(h=4,r=3.05 + 0.05*i);
}}
This is yours which shows the smaller the hole the smaller the gap
gap=6;
difference(){
cube([200,18,3]);
for(i=[0:19]){
translate([8 + gap*i + 0.1*i*i, 5+0.05*i, -0.1]) cylind
