Cool job using the ceramic. Do you think you could remove the need for PTFE if the inside was polished or finished with some sort of glaze?by jzatopa - Plastic Extruder Working Group
acuralegendz I have the same kit but I am a little confused on mounting the extruder. The reason I am confused is because the platform has captured nuts where the extruder mounts and the extruder head has captured nuts. Could you post a close up of the head and how it is mounted? A pic from the bottom would also help, if you are able to.by jzatopa - General Mendel Topics
So does anyone know if this is available yet? I have been waiting since early November to see more then just and announcement. The page does say it would be available the end of December 2012.by jzatopa - General

Maxbots Thanks for putting up some pics of the 2.0. It looks good. I couldn't wait for it to come out so I got the parts for a 1.5. I can't wait to hear how your initial beta goes. Let me know if you need any more testers.by jzatopa - General

Once we start censoring, where do we stop? I for one am unwilling to trade freedom for a false sense of security. People kill people, not guns. I work in places where there is a large amount of gun violence in America. If my state had conceal and carry, I would carry a gun with me every day. The fact is that almost none of these crimes are committed by people who are legal gun owners. Theyby jzatopa - General
Not sure if you have considered it but a Arc stick welding oven would be a perfect place to store your nylon filament to keep it moisture free. You could possible even create your own. I also wonder if a food dehydrator would work or a room dehydrator + a mini fridge. Honestly, all of them will probably work well. Considering you can usually buy a food dehydrator for cheap at a thrift store oby jzatopa - General
I would be interested in helping get this off the ground. The problem with using kickstarter is that you need to have a product at the end and a business to provide it. Thingiverse exists to supliment makerbot, it does not generate revenue to support itself. I might be willing to host such a site if I can afford it but I have no way to build or maintain the site, we would need developers and aby jzatopa - General
I would be interested in this and interested in being involved with this.by jzatopa - RepRap magazine
www.zatopa.com is what I am working on as a marketplace. It will not be a thingiverse clone but something a little different. Currently I am looking for venders who want to sell their designs, parts, machines and etc. but you must have a min. of 5 ready to go and already being sold. Initially I am only looking for a few solid venders to start but I plan to expand so that anyone can be a vendorby jzatopa - General

Does anyone know if thingiverse is based off an open source platform (ie. wordpress)? I would think that a forum would work just as well. You could use torrents to host the files and use a post to keep things up to date. It would not be the same as thingiverse but it would be damn close.by jzatopa - General

I love hearing about the products people are making with their 3d printers and CNC machines. I do think the machines need to be able to print in a higher resolution on a bigger scale to really become a true manufacturing machine. I would think that once we can print 24X24X24 on a resolution half way between extrusion and DLP/resin, people will really start kicking out great designs and productsby jzatopa - General
Jasper, kit buyers and out of the box buyers are two different segments but they overlap greatly in this market. On top of that the people who are buying 3d printers currently and for the next 2-5 years are going to be the early adopters. Early adopters are generally willing to deal with extra problems in return for being the first to use technology. In addition to that, people who buy machineby jzatopa - General
I think that a family of machines that work together to build each other would allow us to create much better and more useful machines. This could culminate into a single machine that does it all but I have a feeling that may have to many compromises to be viable for some time. By expanding the ecology of the reprap to include machines that do work a 3d printer can't do, we can push our designsby jzatopa - General
The original idea behind the Reprap was a machine that could replicate itself and would evolve as people required. A wonderful idea which has brought us all here today. The problem is that the technology and designs have quickly run into limits due to materials available and the cost of goods needed. I would like to propose an extension to the Reprap concept. I think that reprap should includby jzatopa - General
Even if there are other ways of achieving the same results, that doesn't mean having options is a bad idea. Considering the ease of using a peltier, it looks to be a viable option. It is also quite easy to use 2 of them to spread the heat more evenly over the print table without much extra work.by jzatopa - General
I was reading your Z resolution and looking at layer resolution on the makerbot site, sorry it's been a long day at work. It looks like they spec their resolution at 11 microns for X,Y and 2.5 microns for Z. I looked at your links and prints and they look good. I want to be able to do prints like that in 12"X12"X12", and I know warping is an issue. I have an idea on how to get around that proby jzatopa - General
Sublime I meant all in one package, not each feature available in different machines. I am guessing that you mean that your reprap bests these specs. Any chance you have a site with the build up of it so I could check it out? What is it's build volume? Could you post a link to your work that is printed with a Z resolution .4 microns (.0004mm) on a fused filament extrusion printer, I'd be curiby jzatopa - General
I think it's a big step in the right direction. Its starting to look professional, it has a decent print size and even though the price is high its not unreachable. The prints look to be reaching a resolution that is competitive with other 3d printing methods. The PLA only is disappointing but I wonder if there might be an ABS upgrade later. Now the question is, when is someone going to creatby jzatopa - General
I see what you are saying, I guess I viewed your comment a little differently then you meant it. My vote is that the Reprap is the killer app itself but one killer app does not take the place of a whole market place. Although necessity is the mother of all invention I do think that there is a lot of room for open experimentation. I feel that size is a big limitation to the current generationby jzatopa - General
Thanks for the info and the video. I wonder where I can find info about his extruder, that would be a much more economical way of going big. I have to disagree with your statement, "it's better to choose the best manufacturing technique for a given product and quantity required, rather than creating a manufacturing technique and then decide what to make with it." If that was true reprap wouldby jzatopa - General
