Ok I have to say that I already see a problem with this. I understand the intent behind how this rule is implemented, and I appreciate it but I think it might be a bit misguided. Product development, crowd funding and discussing open source products/projects is the core of growing reprap. Are we just not supposed to talk about the advances in new product designs just because they are for saleby jzatopa - General
I'm not sure how the new rules work when it comes to Kickstarter projects but this is one that I think you guys would be interested in There is a company called Protoplant creating three new 3D printing filaments under the brand Proto-Pasta. They are actually doing materials testing on all their plastics and sharing the information. I have the data sheets here on my blog and you can check outby jzatopa - General
I don't see why this wouldn't work, but you get what you pay for. I also have trouble believing that they are making a decent margin at this price point.by jzatopa - General
Projects live and die by documentation. This includes forums, tutorials and wikis. If reprap is to grow then it needs to really update how it presents itself ASAP. There seems to be plenty of people willing to commit to this so I don't understand why it hasn't happened yet.by jzatopa - General
There is a setting in the config.h to keep your steppers on even when they are not in use. It sounds like that needs to be adjusted on your Z. When you home your axis to they move towards the side with the endstops? If so are you sure you don't have your endstops connected to the max instead of min plugs (rambo has this option, I'm not sure about your board)? I have helped someone convert a cby jzatopa - General
Awesome project. I'm not familiar with the 3drag board but it looks similar to a ramps style setup. What firmware are you using? If you are using marlin then you may need to see if your end stops are inverting and wired properly. Traditionally you want your endstops to be at your min. so that you home to 0,0,0.by jzatopa - General
If anyone here is in the Chicagoland area and has a rostock max or larger printer, I have a print I need made. The problem is that my machine is to small and I really don't want to print it in multiple parts if I don't have to. I am willing to pay for the machine time or pay you in filament, which ever you prefer. If you are interested please email me at jzatopaby jzatopa - Job Shop: I need stuff made!
Another update. I am still waiting for a refund of $500 from trinity labs. I have sent emails and I get nothing but an empty email that forwards my email to someone else at trinity labs. I made the mistake of trusting Ezra to be a man of his word when it came to business, a mistake I will not make again.by jzatopa - General
This is something I have thought long and hard about over the past few years. Here is a little of what I have come up with. Your ideas are worthless by themselves. So many people hold onto their ideas in the same way people let clasic cars rot in their driveway; planning to "restore it one day". Think an idea is valuable on it's own? Try to get someone to pay you for your idea and nothing elby jzatopa - General
It really doesn't make a difference. The biggest issue IMO is if you are using a direct drive extruder or a geared extruder. 1.75mm is easier to directly drive with the limited torque of a direct drive extruder.by jzatopa - General
Try pointing a fan at the barrel of the hotend. It helped me.by jzatopa - General
There is no reason a fridge wouldn't work. Your hotbed would be more than enough to heat it up. Your problem may actually become too much heat or uneven heating from top to bottom. Another problem would be keeping your steppers cool enough and making sure that all your printer parts can handle a higher temperature environment.by jzatopa - General
I really want someone to 3d print a cement structure for me one day so here is my .02c You can try to invent your own cement nozzle but why reinvent the wheel when you could modify something that is similar to do the job for you. Take a look at these videos. It seems like you haven't researched what has been done enough. Spraying concrete Spraying lime cement Mortar Sprayer Cement extrudby jzatopa - General
Spend the $1000-1500 on a nice kit, focus on building it start to finish and consider it an education.by jzatopa - Reprappers
Your couplers should be perfectly centered when installed right. If they are not then they may be manufactured incorrectly or installed incorrectly, You might need to send them back or try a different set.by jzatopa - General
From what I understand you can use it as a dual drive for higher print speeds or two single drives for a dual print head. I'm with you that I think they are priced high. If they were in the $100-150 range I would be all over this.by jzatopa - General
I saw this extruder and I thought I should share it with you guys. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-kraken-the-first-dual-independent-pinch-wheel-extruder-for-3d-printers It's called the Kraken extruder and it uses dual steppers to drive filament. Seems like a pretty good idea, has anyone else built something similar?by jzatopa - General
There are spam fighting measures that work very well and only add minor inconveniences to users. I learned about them the hard way after I had my message board filled with spam. Spam is now almost eliminated.by jzatopa - General
Can someone tell me how I can get this full graphics LCD from reprap discount (I think) to work with the Repetier firmware on a Rambo board? I am at a lossby jzatopa - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hey how well did you get your cubeX working with the rambo? I am helping a friend do the same conversion and I am having a few little problems. The first one is that I have no idea what rod is being used on the Z so I am guesstimating my Z right now. It prints but I would love to know the actuall spec. The second problem I am running into is that the extruder keeps slipping, I have it so itby jzatopa - General Mendel Topics
Does anyone know about the quality of Enco products? This is so cheap I might just order it to play with.by jzatopa - General
crispy1 I do not have the tops of my lead screws restricted by anything and I am still getting a z wobble. I am going to return this second rod and either order from roton or figgure something else out. Roton has a minimum order of $60 so either I have to order parts for some project I want to do in the future or I may have to do a little group buy if anyone is interested.by jzatopa - General
Damn roton isn't cheap.by jzatopa - General
So I just received my second order from mcmaster the other day and my acme rod arrived practically bent in a u. I got it swapped and this new one is bent to, just a whole lot less. Is there a better source out there? Do I have to spend money on the precision acme rod to get a straight one? It seems a bit much that a product, designed for exact linear motion, would arrive in any way other thenby jzatopa - General
From what I understand the Marlin firmware is able to follow arc movements when presented them in gcode. Is sli3r the only slicer that supports arcs?by jzatopa - General
I'm curious to see if this backfires on them. Now their name is attached to a product that requires a huge amount of support for the average consumerby jzatopa - General
This has potential.by jzatopa - General
It's a MM 1.5. I upgraded to acme from threaded rod. The threaded rod did ok but that had a z wobble as well. I found these but I think that the 1/4" is going to be slightly to big to tighten down.by jzatopa - General

I should say, I am having trouble finding them for a reasonable price. Anyone? I keep finding ones that are either very expensive ($38 each) or that don't fit my stepper.by jzatopa - General
