I don't think the question was about PID tuning, it was about increasing the frequency of temperature measurements. Can that be done?by jbayless - General
nophead Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The temperature rise is directly proportional to > the power regardless. The temperature rise is proportional to the dissipated power (I^2*R), but not the input electrical power (I*V), because a lot of the voltage drop comes from the back-emf of the motor as it is spinning. Hi, I've encountered some issues while setting up Adrian Bowyer's Java Host Sprinter firmware. I have RAMPS 1.4, I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit) with 32-bit Java in Eclipse. I've set up Java Host on my machine in Eclipse so that I can spy on the serial transmissions in debug mode (I just put system.out.println commands where it reads and writes to the serial port) to see what RAMPS and Host areby jbayless - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Ok, I've adjusted it to work with RepRap Host. Hi Jan, That's a very worthy goal! I'm curious to hear how you made the 0.35 mm nozzle. But your blog seems to be marked private and only invited readers can read it at the moment. Jacobby jbayless - General
I've tracked this down in the code, and it looks like it was deliberately programmed for the case where REPRAP_HOST_COMPATIBILITY is less than 20110509. I guess the old RepRap Host software for some reason expected a newline there?by jbayless - Firmware - mainstream and related support

Never mind, I figured it out and updated the wiki instructions. It'd still be good if someone with more experience (especially with a non-Windows OS) can check that I wrote it all up correctly. Jacobby jbayless - RepRap Host
Hi everyone, I'd like to install the RepRap Host software from source in Eclipse (running Windows 7). I've followed the instructions right up to the end, where it concludes with: QuoteTo work with the Java source code you will need the system-dependent libraries that RepRap uses. Those are in the directory Reprap/lib/system-dependent/. You will need to copy (or create links to) the .so files (Lby jbayless - RepRap Host

Hey, Is it just me, or have all the items and links (for example, link to the forums) on the front page sidebar been pushed way down to the bottom of the page? It's been like this for me for a while, but I haven't seen anyone else mention the issue, so I'm not sure if it's just something peculiar with my browser. (Firefox 9.01) Jacobby jbayless - General
Maybe. Silver-based inks are generally expensive and susceptible to corrosion, but it might be worth the tradeoff.by jbayless - General

If you need to by a kit from a single supplier, have you considered an Ultimaker? To me, it seems like a better design.by jbayless - General
In a Bridgeport mill, the table moves in X, Y, and Z and the milling tool generally just moves in Z, although it can be set up to rotate I think. The Ultimaker uses a table that moves in Z and an extruder that moves in XY. Makerbot uses an XY table and the extruder moves in Z.by jbayless - Mechanics
I'm surprised that in this whole thread you haven't posted the diameter of your motor's shaft, or which size of NEMA-XX motor it is. I'll assume that the shaft is 5 mm in diameter. If that's the case, I'd suggest using an M6 leadscrew instead of an M8 leadscrew, and then you can use a coupling nut such as McMaster-Carr 93355A100. You might have to drill out the inner diameter of some of the threby jbayless - Mechanics
Can't you just share material that you own the copyright to, or is public domain, and in doing so avoid trouble? Second that. Top-quality reprap prints (and those of variants like ultimaker) are surpassing the quality of low-end commercial printers, and if you have your print done by a professional shop you may not get the kind of detail that you'd be able to achieve with a tuned reprap. I'm not sure they'll let you select an ultra-fine layer thickness, for example. If you have a 3D model in mind, you coulby jbayless - General

Hi everyone, I'm considering running my printer from a 24-volt power supply. Before I do so, my main concern is that the Arduino Mega is only rated up to a recommended 12 V, with 20 V being a hard limit. So I'd like to do this without frying my voltage regulators or damaging any components. I know that the Pololu steppers are rated up to 35 V. So I have a few questions: 1. Perhaps a more suitable figure of merit is the thermal expansion coefficient divided by thermal conductivity, because a high thermal conductivity will reduce temperature gradients. Another point is that thermal stress can be avoided even when the thermal expansion coefficient is high, as long as the temperature is kept very uniform over the entire plate.by jbayless - General
