The first ever Harford Hackerspace meeting was a success! Visit wiki.harfordhackerspace.org for the meeting minutes. Although this is intended to be a local organization any is welcome to join.by Squintz - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
I have started a website for a new Harford Hackerspace (www.harfordhackerspace.org) check out www.hackerspaces.org for more informationi about hackerspaces. I am currently looking for members in the Baltimore/Harford area but if you don't mind traveling then other areas are welcomed also. This club will actively work on the RepRap project as a group as well as other projects.by Squintz - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
The reason I suggested Invision is because it's what I am use to using and it has been rock solid so far. It's pretty modular and fairly secure from spam bots. I don't like phpBB which is why I don't use it. It just seems very poorly designed and filled with bugs and hacks. vBulletin is nice as well but I simply don't have the experience with it like I do with IPB. The only reason I did not recoby Squintz - Administration, Announcements, Policy
If I offered my time and a little money to purchase InvisionPowerBoard (IP would you guys accept my support in archiving the existing forum and starting a much more user friendly forum? I find this forum to be way behind the times and I know there is already a ton of priceless information on these forums. However, it's very difficult to keep up with new topics and ongoing discussions. I have yeby Squintz - Administration, Announcements, Policy
While researching how to properly make my own gears I came across the above website. It allows you to set some paramaters: Tooth spacing (mm) Contact angle(deg) Shaft hole dia. (mm) Gear 1 teeth Gear 2 teeth Printed page width (mm) It shows you what your gear will look like as you enter new paramaters. You can then print out the gear and use it as a template for making your own from wood, metby Squintz - RepLab Working Group
I'd like to try and machine my own parts. I really liked the BitsFromBytes lasercut parts I saw at the HacDC Build-A-Thon this weekend. One of the frequent complaints from the reprappers was that the parts are prone to crack and warp under heat. So I would like to build the same machine using wood and aluminum parts. Are there 2D drawings of these parts that are to scale or with dimensions labledby Squintz - Plastic Extruder Working Group
It's final. I am driving down with my Brother In-Law who is a high school student involved in afterschool robitcs and I am also bringing my best friend who is slightly interested in this stuff.by Squintz - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
Have you guys seen this before? If you watch the video you'll see that the liquid instantly forms a solid when poured over the crystals. I'm not sure what the properties of the solid are after it cools but it could be used for something.by Squintz - General
So you mean physically stack them? Would that be:...? |OBJECT| or |OBJECT| The first makes more sense to me. So you essential cool down the hot side of another Peltier-element which allows the colder side to be cooler...Is that correct?by Squintz - General
This is a question for an unrelated project but you guys are smart and it could be related if you wanted it to so I am asking here. How do those 12v Portable Coolers/Freezers work? I found one site that says they use 134A Gas but where does the 12v come into play. My father in-law and I are working on a HHO(Hydrogen) torch and need a way to cool the water vapors that might be in the gas so thatby Squintz - General
I am interested in a quote for the 108 parts.by Squintz - Reprappers
So what can we do to streamline production of these parts? Especially in the USA?by Squintz - Reprappers
I have a product modification idea for many Jet Skis and I hope that I can start the ball rolling by making and maybe selling a few prototypes from my RepRap. Besides, it's just fun to build things.by Squintz - General
I'm all for an SAE version. Would it really be much more difficult to provide two sets of CAD drawings. The cost saving would be significant for those in the U.S.A.by Squintz - Mechanics
That's a nice idea but I would be a little worried about the amount of play in the chain. Even the smallest space would cause the axis to jerk everytime it reversed.by Squintz - Mechanics
Its a little off topic but does bring up an interesting point. Has anyone every tried to capture and store that 1 to 2 volts of electricity and turn it into something more. In other words free electricity. I doubt it will work but imagine if you could take the 40+ Volts DC from the phone and 2 volts from the cable and charge a capacitor and use it for small appliances like cell phone chargers. Very cool. I would like to see what you have accomplished. I have not had much time lately to work on my project but I am working on a McWire. We have had two meetings so far and both were fairly productive. At the first I gave a small soldering course and at the second we played with my father in-laws milling machine. I'd love to have another meeting but I don't have the time currently to work oby Squintz - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
I noticed that part of the powercomms parts list and testing procedures include using the 2 Pin housing and crimp connectors. However, there are no instructions on how to fabricate the cables listed in the instructions. I'm working on the repstrap McWire and I did not purchase extra connectors as far as I know. So I need to make a wire the correct length the first time and use it to short the Rby Squintz - Controllers
I hate when I do that. I ask a question and then moments latter take a risk and fiqure out the answer. I disconnected the +5 and wired it up as +12v using the yellow wire. This caused the LED to illuminate and there is +5v at pins 15 and 16 of U2. So now my question is...Is the red wire(+5v) needed? In other words do I need both the +5 and +12v for the board to operate correctly or is only theby Squintz - Controllers
I finished soldering the parts onto my powercomms board. Let me start by saying that I am not a newbie to electronics so I am confident that the components are soldered correctly. I attempted to convert a classic ATX power supply using the instructions on this site and I plugged the powercomm to the supply. Immediately I saw a small spark near the power connection and heard a small pop. The powby Squintz - Controllers
This is probably low on the list but I think we could use a more modern Forum. Finding information in this forum is not user friendly.by Squintz - Reprappers
You're doing an awesome job and I fully support the Arduino movement. Arduino is a very popular DIY product that is readily available. Our Maryland User Group is banking on the sucess of your firmware. I just wish I had more time and knowledge to assist you more. I'd like to learn how the firmware and software interact so I could start putting in my $.02 (or is that $.03 now? Maryland sales tax jby Squintz - RepRap Host
I'm a little confused as what we can use this live CD for. I just installed Ubuntu 7.10 and it works good. I was about to install all the java stuff that I would need such as J3D when I remembered this thread. Will the live CD automate the installation of all those files for me or will it require me to install the entire Operating System and wipe out my existing system. I'm new to linux and wouby Squintz - RepRap Host
If you want to get in on the first meeting now is the time to contact Brian. Check out the intro thread in this forum for his e-mail address or reply here. That is really cool. On a side note PBS is showing their visit to Maker Fair tonight at 8pm on the east coast. Not sure if it is the same for other areas. Edit: After looking at their site the Make Fair show is not listed as being on tonight. I saw a comercial that said Wednesday at 8pm. Maybe I have the wrong Wednesday.by Squintz - Tissue Engineering
