As mentioned in the previous post, while being a very promising firmware, FiveD on Arduino failed on pretty basic things here. Unknown commands were ignored, but not the number following the command, so a N1 T1 was interpreted as N11. The confirming OK was sent on G and M commands only, resulting in a hanging host software on other commands. Also, M and G commands weren't reset, so once a M105 waby Traumflug - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Does this mean you're actually using FiveD on Arduino in production? That surprises me, as on a first test, this firmware already choked on the initial N0 T1, as the firmware in it's current state doesn't send back an OK in this case. But see next post ... Anyways, if such nasty hacks indeed speed up things, there is something wrong in the communications protocol that should be fixed.by Traumflug - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

To make sure the electrical stuff is working, one can test drive steppers with a small firmware designed for that: . Just upload the firmware, turn the power on and steppers should start moving. Don't forget to adjust the pin numbers in the first two lines of the given test code for each stepper. If this test drive works, and other things don't, software is the culprit.by Traumflug - General
QuoteIs there plans to incorporate rotary encoders on the steppers at some point in the development? The beauty of steppers is, they don't need any rotary or position encoder. QuoteOr can motors with the shaft on only one side work? I've yet to see a situation in the RepRap world where the second shaft is actually used. Perhaps double shaft motors are recommended because they have the same priby Traumflug - General
Great move, Johnathan, thanks. Right now I'm downloading at about 30 kB/s, expected download time 40 minutes. Is this running off your home server? If not, it might be a good idea to separate out design files for automatic builds.by Traumflug - RepRap Host
QuoteIf you're spending much time on this, it might be easier to get one of the Arduino Mega clones out there - I bought one for about £25 Hah! I just waited for such a comment. Seeing how quickly Arduino firmware is a severe case of bit-rot it's even less likely I'll buy newer hardware of that type, as this likely will be outdated next year. Maybe because somebody decides to go from C++ to C#by Traumflug - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Sounds like your software tries to drive the stepper faster than it can follow and/or the driver doesn't send enough current to the stepper. To find out you can start debugging with an exercising firmware like here:by Traumflug - General Mendel Topics
After wrestling almost the whole weekend with finding a working firmware for the ATMega168 (generation 2 electronics) I think it's a good idea to drop a few lines about my findings. The firmware expected to work should be GCode_Interpreter, AFAIK. There are at least 3 versions in the Sourceforge repository, use the one at trunk/reprap/firmware/ . Go to parameters.h and comment the #defines for Sby Traumflug - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hello all, my RepStrap is currently in a state where I can exercise a stepper with the test code on . Next step would be to exercise the stepper with some SNAP or GCode. So I tried to get FiveD on Arduino as of February 22 running on my generation 2 electronics, Arduino Diecimila, ATMega168. As I couldn't figure the required parameters for avrdude, I simply did a "echo > mendel.pde" and loby Traumflug - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
