Hi all, My ormerod was working with an SD card that I supplied, but it seems that the SD card holder/reader was not soldered down correctly and is now broken. Now even with new firmware and the same card I cannot get config.g to read. The card holder has now been damaged. Where can I get a replacement micro USB reader for my duet board? (I am in South Africa so an RS link or something will be beby tracyb - Ormerod
ooh - I would be interested in this as well. Please post me the link to the stl or solidworks file and I can play as wellby tracyb - Ormerod
I was thinking of trying a few mm retract at the beginning. If your brim is set large enough then the filament will get flowing eventually but with no drips at the start. I have had many prints fail on the first layer due to this.by tracyb - Ormerod
"getting the extrusion temperature just right" What temperatures are you using?by tracyb - Ormerod
Well the support material settings did not work - the support material is basically un snappable and I will have to machine it out. Good learning curve though. The print quality wasn't great and during the print the x carriage stopped being a press fit with the roller bearing so now I have to print that part. I am thinking of printing a modified carriage so that I can still use my 9mm bearing. Thby tracyb - Ormerod
Before I print how deep is deep enough - I went about 12mm deeper for myself because that was to allow for the ethernet header and to allow the wires some space so that they would not get crushed and would generally have more space. I will be putting the cover back on but without the filament spool as I don't think that would belong there.by tracyb - Ormerod
I am using solidworks to make the case deeper. I also wanted to enclose the ethernet plug but am worried that doing that without a sopport will cause problems because it is a fairly wide gap to cover. If it works I can give you the stl of the modified case.by tracyb - Ormerod
So I am getting around to making some improvements to my printer and am going to be reprinting the Duet housing, I am printing it much deeper and altering it a bit so that the fan housing I have made will fit. Does anyone know how the power and SD card slots were printed? Did they have support material? Surely if they did not the print would not be such good quality and the "top" of the hole woulby tracyb - Ormerod
Hi fellow South Africans, My head has started to sag and I would either like to replace it with ABS or with Aluminium. I am lucky enough to have a fully functional workshop with multiple CNC machines to help out. However I am a bit concerned to print the head in ABS at the moment because I think it will not make it. Do you know of anyone local selling ABS printed heads? Also thanks for the infoby tracyb - Ormerod
Quotearnaud31 Quotetracyb Can I make another suggestion to this as well. I always home my X and Y when I start up the machine while the bed starts to heat up. But because of my computer/machine setup I sometimes get confused as to positive or negative X and Y movements. (This is because I am sitting behind the machine). This means that sometimes I tell the machine to move off the end of the tableby tracyb - Ormerod
Thanks for the response Ian, the Ormerod doesn't belong to me but my company, even though I am the one doing all the fiddling. I didn't want to get nailed later on if my new bed was causing problems. Once I have done the design I will try and put the stl files on the forum to see if anyone else can add their brain power to mine. I am going to try add a new support to the bottom bearing and possibby tracyb - Ormerod
Agreed - You could set your max limits up once off, I cant tell you how bad I feel each time I give a -x100 instead of a +x100by tracyb - Ormerod
I am embarking on making a few mods to the bed in order to reduce sag, reduce the offset and make it a bit more sturdy. The plan is to go full 6mm aluminium, remove all the nut traps for threaded holes, and obviously add in a few cutouts to keep the weight down as far as possible. I am also looking at the linear bearing which is all on ts own. It is the only bearing that doesn't have a printed suby tracyb - Ormerod
Surely you would only print at 70 for the first layer and then reduce for the subsequent ones?by tracyb - Ormerod
I had the same problem and fixed it by adding a few washers to the screws attached to the head to lift it a bit. It will still crash into the clip if you leave in unmodified but I can get right onto the bead without the sensor touching.by tracyb - Ormerod
Great news! My SD card had to be replaced out of the box as the one supplied was useless. Hope it sorts it out.by tracyb - Ormerod
Mine didn't have any serious issues. It took a lot longer to assemble then advertised and the SD card wouldn't work but after that I was printing. I am still printing below the quality I would like but I am trying and learning and things are improving. The only complaint I have at the moment is that it is ok for reprap or a community member to say here is the design for a new section - such as thby tracyb - Ormerod
Have you looked at the raw Gcode generated by slic3r to see if that error is there? If not then have a look at the gcode on the sd card by plugging it into your computer. That way you can track down where the error is being generated. I too haven't got around to using the new USB printing because I am not a wizard yet with the non precompiled pronterface, but that might be a nice check as well.by tracyb - Ormerod

I have stopped using the Z probe. Home your X and Y axis, manually zero your Z then do your bed compensation (I have been skipping this step for smaller prints) and then you are good to go.by tracyb - Ormerod
Could you not just print a different reel holder to hold your larger reels?by tracyb - Ormerod
The corners were solved using two methods: 1) a bigger extrude retract setting in slic3r and 2) using either SD print or the modified USB print settings. If I have loads more trouble I will go and buy a new thermistor however I still think short intermittent faults could be solved in firmware. Too scared to print my 16 hour job at the moment..by tracyb - Ormerod
My prints keep failing during the job. The extruder heater turns off and never turns on again. I have been told that this could occur when my thermistor reads an incorrect value. I have secured the thermistor wiring and still have this issue. If I watch the temps it seems to happen very rarely. If the firmware is turning off the heater when a fault is registered could a firmware change fix this?by tracyb - Ormerod
Thanks Ian - worked perfectly for me. Looking forward to a new colour!by tracyb - Ormerod
So I have finally finished all the compensation and fine tuning items and was getting down to printing my first item today. I picked the geodesic type sphere that someone else had shown to work on this machine. The first test the hotend turned off and ruined the job. The second print it did the same but I was watching and turned it back on again (happened at roughly the same place) but then afterby tracyb - Ormerod
But I get all the Gcode lines and the temps as feedback. Which means I could definitely get some progress feedback as well.by tracyb - Ormerod
Why can't the SD card print progress be displayed on the pronterface interface? Mine hangs at 0%. It displays g code and temps so it should be able to do this. I want to go have a beer but have to wait until this job finishes...by tracyb - Ormerod
By deepest Darkest Africa I really mean Cape Town.. Was more using it as a point that getting certain products here can be far more difficult and costly then in the states. Offers from Reprap like, bring it in and I'll take a look don't really work here. In fact posting various components to them would be prohibitively expensive.. I think I have made the problem a bit better by changing the priby tracyb - Ormerod
So I got reprap no 313 delivered to South Africa where the cost is quite significant - to put it in perspective it is about 2 months rent. It took myself and one other about 12 hours to assemble (and we are both skilled tool users) and then probably as long as that to get it to print something. I have the circuit board with the incorrect size holes and a non-compatible SD card. I have a few quby tracyb - Ormerod
