Hi DC42, Sliced with Slicr verrion 1.0.0.CR2: When I look at your pictures, my first impression was: Or you print directly from Pronterface in stead of the SD card (I strongly doubt it but I justy mention it to rule out this option) Or, the feederate of the extruder is too high Or extruder temperature is too high (but even then the effect would not be so big) But an other option could bby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Interesting approach to sand the glass. What about the first layer, are the scratches visible in the prints? I also print directly on glass but use a thin layer PVA glue dilluted in water (found the tip elsewhere on this forum), sticks perfect and easy to remove the parts afterwards. Dillute PVA glue in water (ratio ca 1:4 makes it a thin liquid, ratio is not so critical though), Poor a bit onby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
@Flyskyhy: short question Did you do a test with a closed topsurface and if so, how did it look? I ask since my test showed gaps in the surface. Unable to continue my own testing, therefor I ask. thanksby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
After advice of Flyskyhy I set the extrusion width to nozzle diameter + layer height and get much better results for the inner diameters. Outer dimensions are smaller! : Layer height, 0.25mm, Nozzle Diameter 0.5mm Extrusion width perimiters 0.75mm Measurements on my testpiece: Target round 20mm inner, measured 19.9mm Target round 12mm inner, measured 11.9mm Target round 10mm inner, measured 9.by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
@Arnaud31, I don't understand either why your perimiter width is set at 0.85. It will be a combination of various parameters. In my situation it took over the value as defined of in case of default the diameter of the nozzle.by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Thanks for the feedback Flyskyhy You could be in the right direction, i checked produced G code from Sli3r, Defined two nozzle wdth (1 standard 0.50, the second 1.00) First layers were the same, second showed the difference. Nozzle was moved 0.25mm more from the sidewalls, flow of extrusion was 89% higher (not 100%). Layerheight was defined as 0.25mm In both situation for the second layer theby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
OK, I understand what you mean since you asume that Slicr adjusts the feed rate to create a bigger extruder hole. In my test I mention it and I simply don't know what Slicr does with the feedrate when wider extrudor is defined. What I do know that defining a wider extruder gives better results for the smaller holes Also I know that with standard extruder width of 0.5, layer height 0.25mm, Slicrby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Hi Arnoud, thanks for your reply. Could you explain how Slicr would produce an extrudor width of 0.85 at a layer height of 0.25mm? I checked the G-files and saw that the extruder (set at 0.5mm) during circles was positioned exactly 0.25mm away from the perimeters. Other question, with custom setting 160% for perimiters I would expect a higher flow of plastic in stead of less or?by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Very creative. manually change the G-files in order to change the extruder temperature which manipulates the color :-)by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
@Dave Differences in a thin hole or a tube is explainable. The first layer always expands a little. It flows more then the next layers causing a wider surface. In my testpiece I forced the first layer 0.5 mm smaller to prevent this effect and nevertheless the inner diameters are smaller compared to higher layers (measured as W3B ). I would advise a deburr tool for thin layers. I also did a test wby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Hi Kim, teflon tubing is pretty expensive.. What you could consider is extention with PE or PU tubing. They will have more friction but I just tested the guidance and it looks OK. PU is more flexible so maybe that's the best option. Both are much cheaper the PTFE. Be aware that the last piece going into the extruder must be PTFE due to the heat of the extrudor ;-) A 4mm quick tube coupler willby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Allow me to share my experiences. I also experienced strange effect when it comes to inner diameters so I decided to consult a friend of mine who is working in plastic moulding and extrusion on professional basis. He informed me with the following info: Plastic behaves strange unexpected when you move from melted towards solid phase and in the professional process of extrusion there are lots ofby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
I used simple 9 pin SUBD connectors. You can buy them everywhere, easy to solder, easy to disconnect when necessary.by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Maybe some advise: When printing on a ship, some kind of shock absorbers good be usefull. If you check the images in the documentation you will notice that RepRap uses their own shock absorbers (no idea in what kind of vehicle they are using while printing). Would be a challange to find nice solutions. For instance using a set of springs or if you would like to balance the movements from the shipby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Good idea. Should not be too difficult. I would suggest a safetytrap for both the extruder head as the bed, Limits of the sensor are well known for both short contact and broken contact.by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Hi Kim, I tried a horizontal reel holder for 1 kg filament. I used a ballbearing and it rolled very very smooth, too smooth I guess since the filmanet got jammed several times. You need some resistance to keep the filament fixed on the reel. I switched to vertical movement, no ball bearing (could install them, will test is later) but for now it works fine for me. In case you run in to problems wby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
R60 and 61 are horizontal so it is the newer type, thanks for the info DC. I noticed that when PSU is connected only that the ethernet led comes up after a while but very weak. I can ping the IP address but web interface is not working. I checked the voltage supply towards the IR sensor and is shows 2.2 V when only PSU is connected (very low) and as soon as the USB is connected it raises to 3.3V.by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Thanks DC, I can't see for now since the printer is in my office, I will check tomorrow.by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
My Z-gear had a lot of play so decided to print a new one but faced the same problem as topic starter mentioned. Ended up with printing two calibrationrings and checked their dimensions. The following settings are acceptable for me Filament measured is really 1.75 mm Set the nozzle width to 0.6 mm and filament to 2.00 mm. Parts are oversized 1% First layer height set to 0.25mm, no extra filamby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Hi Mike, thanks for your reply jumper 9 is shortened so it appears to be one of the early boards. I will check tomorrow but I think there is a spot on the print reserved for 5 volt supply, if not I will ask RS for a replacement. The fan is not a big issue, I was just curious and did not understand why the speed of the fan was not contolable, will order a low noise fan with my next order at RS.by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Why not? Only remark could be that you need a pretty flat (small) magnets when placed in the bed and detection range should be sufficiant. Also be aware that is you would like to use the auto bed leveling (G32) that all magnets need to be detected at the same height (I guess positioning exactly in the middle). Good luckby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Hi all, Very happy with the Ormerod, took some time to find the proper parameters in SLICR but now very pleased with the results. I will tell my experiences at later stage. However, for now I have two issues that I can not get clear. When the main psu is connected I only supply the Duet with 12V. The 5 VDC is taken from the USB connection, when USB is not connected there is no connection towaby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
OK, thanks for the feedback, did you try changing the cable to the motor?by Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
My experience: Ticking of the motor could be or bad pulses forcing too high speed, or mechanical resistance. Bad pulses could of course come from electronics but also from some errors in your g-code file forcing too high speed. If the error is in the g-code file then you should see the problem always in the same spot. My guess: mechanical resistance! Check anything which could influence theby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Thanks dc42 and droftarts for the feedback. It's working thanks to your support. I had downloaded the Windows Installer from Arduino, however that one did not include the bossac tools. So I downloaded the bossac tools directly from schumatech.com (link was supplied in the documentation). I downloaded the Arduino software as zip file and indeed an other bossac version was downloaded. That's wheby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
Hello, New to 3D printers, a nice offer passed by from RS so decided to buy the Ormerod. Assambly was not so difficult, if you have build some IKEA furniture then you know you should look at the details in the instructions. Got all replies from the machine as stated but firmware was strongly recommended, OK... But I got stuck when I tried to update it's firmware. I downloaded latest firmwareby Marc van Beelen - Ormerod
