I have not used my printer in about 3 years. I cleaned and oiled the slides and replaced a couple of cracked PLA parts. When I connect via Pronterface it reads the bed and hotend temperatures, but I cannot control them, they both just keep rising. Web interface reports Duet Firmware 0.59a-dc42 I can connect via Web interface, but once again no control. Have been working on this for 6 hours tby robbycar - Ormerod
I have not used my Ormerod for a few years. I dusted it off, cleaned the surface rust off and lubricated the slide rods, but found a couple of cracks on the printed parts. Is there anywhere I can buy a complete set of printed parts? I spent the past hour looking on the net without success. Rob Sydney, Australiaby robbycar - Ormerod
I had the same problem. The connector would not seat properly. To fix it, I loosened the probe board, then firmly seated the connector, then refastened the board screws. Should fix the issue. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
I fitted mine today, and I did not need any other parts. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
I bought my kit over the counter at RS. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Too late, I got mine delivered yesterday! Rob, Sydneyby robbycar - Ormerod
Kim, Instead of a microswitch that may limit your bed size for full stop, how about a microswitch at the upper limit of Z travel? Would not be too hard to add a large washer to the top of the Z screw which would press on a microswitch mounted on the Z bracket. This may need a sightly longer rod, but easy to do. Then you would not need to move the head to a predetermined position at all and couby robbycar - Ormerod
I am only new at this, but I managed to get Printerface working ok. But the new web interface works much better for me anyway and was very easy to install once I got the port bridged. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
I changed the setting to allow crossing perimeters, and redid the slicing. Did it the second time in less than 2 minutes! Thanks again for all the help guys. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Thanks for the feedback guys. It did eventually finish after nearly 2 hours, and 250k lines! I was using an imported settings file which did have the Avoid Crossing Perimeters checked. This is now gone and I will see if the next one is quicker! Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
I have done a part in Sketchup, exported STL into Slic3r, and this has been running for 90 minutes so far. If I load the part complete file into an editor it shows 97k lines. Is this normal? Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
When I am waiting for the hotend to come up to temperature, the nozzle emits a stream of PLA. I have been trying to scrape it off before print starts. Is this normal? Should I worry about this? Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Bugger! With Mach 3 you can software select the pins sensing either high or low. Perhaps this may be possible in the firmware? Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
For a microswitch used for Z axis, would this be a normally open or a normally closed switch? If normally open, could I just put a terminal onto one of the screws which holds the hotend and connect this to the Duet, and the other Duet lead goes to a metal plate of fixed thickness which can be put out on the bed just to home. Then when the head goes down, the nozzle will contact the metal plate,by robbycar - Ormerod
Thanks to all the help I got from posters here, I finally made my first print today. My garage has no windows, and LED lighting, so the Z probe even seemed to work well. No I am going to try to do the thicker duet case so I can get the back on. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Is it possible to connect via a mapped drive or FTP so I can copy files to SD card without removing it? I have been trying to do this but cant get a connection. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Thanks Kim, that is what I needed. Not the easiest software to configure! Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Guys, This is probably a stupid question, and I apologise if it has been answered previously, but I could not find the answer. I am a newbie still trying to do my first print! Hopefully lowering the nozzle this weekend will get me moving. I have no idea how to run Slic3r yet but it is on my list of things to try. I am not a novice at writing g-code and I write much of the code for my CNC millby robbycar - Ormerod
Thanks Ian, I will try all that tomorrow. I did do bed compensation and did have about .4mm difference at opposite ends of Y axis. Today I ordered the aluminium parts for X rib and bed, so I guess this will help. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Dave, When you get back, please let me know how to get a hold of the x rib, I am in Australia. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Thanks Kim, I appreciate the assistance. Will give the washers a try. I did read your probeless post and this is on my agenda when I get to the stage of printing some new parts! Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
I finally got to the point of trying my first print yesterday. Unfortunately, I could not get the filament to stick properly to the kapton tape. But as soon as the print passed under the IR sensor, it pulled it off anyway. When I measure with a piece of paper, it seems that the nozzle and the sensor are at the same level giving no clearance for the sensor. If I loosen the bearing that runsby robbycar - Ormerod
All fixed. I stripped the x axis and reinstalled. I think I just overtightened the belt. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Well, I am so close to printing that I can nearly taste it! Loaded v59 firmware and upgraded web interface. Can jog all axes, and heaters work fine. But the X axis seems to be an issue. If I command it to go to say X100, it slowly moves but only to around X20. A getpos reports X100. If I manually move the X axis to maximum then home the axis, it only moves to the middle of the arm. Any ideaby robbycar - Ormerod
QuoteOttoES One more thing to check that got me: in some of the files the z axis is re-calibrated using the IR sensor which basically overrides your calibration ( it was the case in my g files that came with the printer) I had to manually remove the g code in the file before I got any thing working. (You can see it doing a re-calibration if it moves to all for cornets when you start a print) Oneby robbycar - Ormerod
Nice work with the indicator! I was thinking one of the lever types as the springs seems lighter. I have quite a few of these that I use on my mill. The alum x axis sounds good too. Where can I get that? Otherwise, I guess I can just make one. Rob.by robbycar - Ormerod
Thanks for the words of wisdom Kim. Yes, I was using Pronterface as I cant seem to get the web interface working. Great idea to try a getpos to find out where it thinks Z is, will try this tomorrow. I agree about a level bed. Was also wondering why it would not be possible to install a small dial indicator attached to the X axis arm and use it for setting bed compensation.
