The first layer does not look good to me - it should not look so 'elevated'. I would lower the Z home, and also look at increasing a new slic3r print setting: in Advanced -> Extrusion width -> try an increased "First layer". As a Z test, its worth running a print of 4 * 2 layer cylinders of approx 15 mm OD and 5mm ID, spaced sufficiently apart (eg 100 to 150mm square) and confirm that alby DavidTangye - Ormerod
OK, I decided to install from git. FYI: The perl Build.PL step includes output of - Running Slic3r under Perl >= 5.16 is not supported nor recommended Ubuntu 14.04 has 5.18. However it ends OK: All tests successful. Files=31, Tests=331, 122 wallclock secs ( 0.16 usr 0.03 sys + 133.39 cusr 1.53 csys = 135.11 CPU) Result: PASS ("perl Build.PL --gui " runs OK, and slic3r starts up OK) Itby DavidTangye - Slic3r
There do not seem to be any instructions at for tarball installs. I downloaded and extracted the tarball into /opt. I had also installed all the dependent ubuntu packages as per that page and with synaptic, although it appears they are only needed when installing from a git clone. I assume that it should not hurt to have them installed anyway, as slic3r presumably should need to use some of thby DavidTangye - Slic3r
