Hi Dave I am a little surprised that nobody took a look at my belt extruder: http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?340,719051,719051#msg-719051]Geared belt extruder Advantages: * Works with the *new* Quickset nozzles which really gave me pain with the hobbed belt extruder * It has a belt tensioner with screw which lets you control friction in a very controlled manner. * It is also made to directlyby tstone - Ormerod
Hi Mike QuoteMike60 Quote I have a financial interest in sales of the Panel Due, Mini IR height sensor, and Duet WiFi. so , stop spamming this thread Please don't be so rude. dc42 has done an fantastic job with the Duet firmware. I have an Ormerod 2 and i really like the features dc42 has implement for it. He has been always helpful in questions. I can understand if people get rude if someoby tstone - Delta Machines
It seems i am a little late. I had this thread open an didn't reload. So i missed that there has been a release. Nevertheless i just tested it with a Ormerod 2 and the only oddness was that two times i had no temperature plot. First time i thought it would be stale browser cache so i did a shift-reload in firefox. Reconnecting solves this. Might it be that the missing temperature plot might be duby tstone - Duet

Hi dc42 Knowing that IDEX support is now in your firmware is really great news! How about putting the extruders somewhere else and having a second rod on the other side? Thus it might even be possible to keep the lenght and position of the first rod and more important the size of the X-arm. I guess i have to complete my other printer design to be ready to change my Ormerod to IDEX. But my nearby tstone - Ormerod
Hi Ormeroders and RepRappers I am happy to present you my geared belt extruder based on ideas of fotomas, ianburny and drofarts. This is one of the more complex designs from me. I was not happy about the extruder performance for large prints of the Ormerod. I had three things which I didn't like: grinding of the hobbed bolt wear of the hobbed bolt wear of the extruder plastic part due to filamby tstone - Ormerod
Yes the fan is really annoying. I did a design a while back with a larger fan which was also much more sane. But since i switched to dual nozzles there was not enough space for a larger fan below the dc42 dual board i switch back to default :-(. The larger fan design also had one section for the heat sink and one compartment for the vent openings with a small lever to control the airflow. So probby tstone - Ormerod
Hi Erik Thanks for your ideas. Well the angle is indeed steeper of the quickset nozzles but i doubt that this is the cause that it just rips through my capton tape. I have also never used a needle to clean the nozzle. Basically i just used misprinted parts for cleaning the little cooled down nozzle. The plastic melts a little and then pulls everything on the nozzle away. This works best if youby tstone - Ormerod
Hi I had a pretty hard time after i decided to update my printer to a two nozzle version. I ordered the dual nozzle upgrade when reprappro was still operational. I have also a dual nozzle dc42 board. While the single nozzle dc42 board was working very good i now have problems with the board leveling. Sometimes the printer starts way to low and scratches over the printbed. The new dual nozzles sby tstone - Ormerod
Thats sad news. I would also be interested in some quickset nozzles as spare parts. I wish all involved luck for their future.by tstone - Ormerod
Quotekrolco Did you find any solution to this, other than switching back to an old nozzle? Well, switching back the nozzle didn't solve the problem for me but replacing the hobbed bolt. Also it looked completly fine solved the issue for me. It might be that changing the nozzle was also one step to getting the printer back working but i am still investiating that. I don't think that having a bloby tstone - Ormerod
Hi I had also random blockages with my 0.3 mm single nozzle. I checked different extruder temperatures and even switched back to my old 0.5mm nozzle. The problem with random extrusion failure still persisted. But after exchanging the hobbed bolt transporting the filament the random failures went away. The old hobbed bolt looks still fine but somehow it manages to grind into the filament. I haveby tstone - Ormerod
Thanks for the tipps so far. I have indeed raised the motor current to 1000 as i have been extruding with a 0.3 nozzle the stock 800 was a little low. Also i have been printing several kg of material so far with this setting. So i don't think that this is the problem. After setting the extruder current back to 800 it was missing steps really fast. So i switched of the motors and turned the extruby tstone - Ormerod
Hi After having my Ormerod 2 printing pretty reliably i am now faced with a strange extruder problem i currently have no idea why it is occurring: While printing the extrusion stops and the extruder grinds into the filament leaving a cut-out in the filament. Strange enough it is not caused by a clogged extruder nozzle as i can start printing again without cleaning the nozzle but by pushing throby tstone - Ormerod
Hi After recovering with 3d printing due to the Rasperry Pi 2 release i am planning to build a big delta. The 4XL looks pretty nice to me but i want to have a large print height as i am planning to experiment with printing some foils. So a 250mm print bed should do but i would like to have a maximum printing height. So what would be the recommended extrusion length's? I was thinking about 120cmby tstone - Delta Machines
You can use modifiers to change some settings with so called modifier meshes in the experimental version. Timby tstone - Ormerod
I also had the problem for large prints. covering nearly the complete printbed. As my bed is a little warped i also have this ripple effect where the bed is to far away from the bed. It starts with a small disturbance which gets bigger and bigger if the bed is not getting closer to the head (due to the "warped" printbed). Sometimes it help turning the printed object as its really very little distby tstone - Ormerod
Hi Dave, Fotomas Quotedmould 1) Twisted acrylic X-arm. This is the arm that the X-carriage bearing runs against, and if it is twisted it will cause the hotend to tilt as it travels along X, changing its height. A non-vertical extruder will also affect print quality. 2) The two ground rods that the bed runs on (Y axis) are not exactly parallel in the Z plane. This will have the effect of raisinby tstone - Ormerod
I think there was a reason for using a 5mm rod. I think it was the rounding errors compared to the steps of the motor?by tstone - Ormerod
I cought a bad cold so i was out not printing the last days. I just updated to the webinterface and the firmware mainly due to the fact, that file upload should go faster. I haven't tried though I can report however that the 1.0b firmware i had running before has been churning out prints very reliable (in combination with the dc42 ir mod). It only failed after 15+ prints or so when some screws weby tstone - Ormerod
Have you tried decreasing the heat instead of increasing? ABS will get brittle but if its only for a viewing model i structural stiffness is only important for used parts.by tstone - Delta Machines
Hi Andy QuoteAndyCart The open build V Wheels fit 8mm slot too. Do you think that the v-wheels work on bosch rexroth extrusions too? Best regards Tim Edit: I was confused due to the V-Slot extrusions at the openbuildspartstore. As far as i see the bigger slice uses rexroth extrusions so it should work.by tstone - Delta Machines
Quotedougal1957 Yes the parts if scaled correctly will work with 30x30 but how about goint with the 20x40 stuff (Add additional bracing if required) then the std parts will work Well actually i have been thinking about 30x60 . Designing some new parts is part of the tinkering fun so i don't care if i have to redo them. I guess normal scaling wouldn't work anyhow. If i don't find a v-roller forby tstone - Delta Machines
I think my question matches the thread so i just use it for my specific question in choosing a delta design: I am also thinking about building a delta and the bigger slice of cherry pi sounded interesting to me. But i want to have a really heigh build volume of about 80cm. So i was thinking to go with 30mm bosch-rexroth extrusions. I couldn't find any v-rollers for them? I think that you print starts not close enough to the bed? At least it looks like that on the photo. I would also suggest keeping the temperature at one level as changing temperature also increases warping.by tstone - Ormerod

Quotedc42 Dave, have you considered building a delta, or a CoreXY machine? How does a delta compare concering print quality and speed to the ormerod? I thought your firmware does support deltas by now with the 1.0 release? I am currently in thinking about building a delta as i want to build large pieces about 60cm+ height and i guess a moving bed is bad for such great object heights.by tstone - Ormerod
There are much newer versions out than 0.78v-dc42? I would suggest using something newer. But as dmould proposed it would be best to return first to the last known working state and continiue step by step from there.by tstone - Ormerod
Quotezombiepantslol Out of curiosity, is there any actual difference between cylinder head screws and cap head screws, or does it just depend on the area of application? Cap head can be round while cyilnder head is well a cylinder?by tstone - Ormerod
