I agree with Mike. I need the light for the bed levelling process as well as when printing. Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Yes please to a full board DC. I am concerned at the potential workload for you - and for your sanity. I could imagine making, perhaps, three model airplanes for friends, but if it got to a couple of dozen then I would 'throw in the towel' So, if the numbers are getting too great, fell free to drop my order in favour of others. Very many thanks for the amazing work you are doing (I am currentlyby GregL - Ormerod
Hi Matt I am only using Chrome - I think it was the one which came with Win7. Maybe it is an old version, and should be updated. Can I try Firefox? Gregby GregL - Ormerod
More importantly, and where I need your collective wisdom, I have completed my first ABS print. First layer temperatures 235, 105 Second and further layers 230, 100 Layer height 0.1 Splitting (noisy) occured during the printing on the curved corner nearest the Duet - and those parts of the wall buckled. How can I improve things? Gregby GregL - Ormerod
I printed the ThinWall test a few days ago in PLA with standard settings - I was very pleased with it, but it did not hold water I would also show a picture of a Dodecahedron, but the forum software seems to think the file (at 608Kb) is too big for its stated limit of 614.4 Kb The bearing Dan suggested turned out brilliantly 52mm dia and 15mm deep - with 5 planet herring-bone gears. Matt: Brilliant work you (and DC) are doing. Currently printing my first ABS using the v0.60 web control. I noticed two things 1. when I tried to drop a file to the SD Upload Drop, it didn't work and I got your 'browser does not support drag and drop' - I loaded it using pronterface 2. now printing 1hr 42 mins, and the progress bar still says '0% complete, layer 0 of 0' - it is being regularly uby GregL - Ormerod
But are you now losing the heat spreader between bed and glass? Will that degrade the temperature uniformity across the Kapton tape? Gregby GregL - Ormerod
You are so right DC. COM3 had clocked up to COM4. Definitely need to check AFTER the erase and reset. Now to run your 057m - I like the new heater PID Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Crikey! Just looked at my bed - and I have that aluminium plate the wrong way round. Glad I read this topic before disaster struck me. I know what my next job is.... Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Just trying to update to DC's latest firmware, and I am consistently getting 'No device found on COM3' - three times now 1. Had not run the printer at all, connected up the USB, checked in Device Manager which said Arduino Due on COM3. Ran bossac, got that messge 2. Fired up Arduino serial port - connecting through COM3, sent M115 and reported back 057g firmware.Shut down Arduino. Ran bossac, gotby GregL - Ormerod
A 1Kg reel of filament is more like 1.18Kg. When (soon) we have three colours, we will have nearly 3.5Kg of reels - definitely not want that hanging off the Z axis Gregby GregL - Ormerod
It looks as though your Egears might be the answer to my extruder problem, Matt. Over time the standard small gear is being forced towards the extruder body. Eventually the friction becomes too much, and the extruder starts to stutter - and prints fail. Your gears should not exert any longitudinal forces (mind you, neither should the current design), so hopefully rubbing won't occur Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Thanks Dan, I have downloaded the bearing - and bookmarked Emmet's web page. Seeing his model of a sleeve valve engine has reminded me that I can now make a model of my T5 engine design: variable compression ratio, variable expansion ratio, variable capacity - all while the engine is running - and it has fewer components than a standard four stroke! Meanwhile my fourth dodecahefron has not goneby GregL - Ormerod
Well, two grandchildren went off yesterday playing with their dodecahedrons. When they come back after school today, I expect they will each have a list of 'things to print' As I am also expecting another two of the grandchildren to turn up today, I am already on my second dodecahedron of the day!!! Help please: some time ago, someone posted a bearing with herringbone gears instead of rollers;by GregL - Ormerod
Thanks dc. I'll sort that tomorrow. Out of interest: where are the js files being picked up from? I had naively thought as nothing had changed in the software here, that it should still run. Testing web things must be a ****** nightmare. Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Very pleased with my Dodecahedron. A few wisps when trying to start the top pentagon. Flushed with success, I graduated to the thin wall test. Worked perfectly - except it is not watertight. Pictures tomorrow. Now to the problem: It was quite happily running Matt's web interface, and dc's firmware before yesterday's trauma - all caused by me trying to fit my newly printed Zrunner. Single helical gears give smooth drive, but also have axial forces on them. Simple trigonometry on the angle of the helix, will turn the torque into that force. The double helix is slightly less smooth (the length of the gear tooth is half), but it does cancel out any axial forces. Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Still need to crack the heating circuits Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Thanks dc I will try your dodecahedron first. How do you get it half size?, and are there any particular settings I should use with Slic3r? Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Unfortunately, I did not get one of your new adjustable Zrunners Ian. Removing a couple of layers of Kapton from the extrusion meant freer running. I was already on the 057a firmware. Careful levelling meant I got a good Ormaxis print - which was perfectly square. Then followed by a very poor Snowman which did not stick to the bed properly. Since then I am on a more recent firmware version fromby GregL - Ormerod
Running right now, with dc42's latest firmware. - in the middle of a Nautilus print Very nice indeed. Thanks for your's and dc42's efforts. One slight difficulty I had was in setting bed and head temps. The (I assume) edit boxes to the right show nothing when I select from the arrowed options. 'Set' seemed to do nothing. When I selected an edit box and typed in 185, nothing showed, but the 'Setby GregL - Ormerod
@dc42 I have picked up your ini files from 22nd jan 'Here are my standard slic3r files. The 429b one is filament, 2kb one is print, 930b is printer.' I updated the simple.ini and the slic3r.ini with the RepRap ones as the instructions suggested It is not clear to me which of the Slic3r files your new ones replace. Help! Greg Edit to add - I think I have found the locations to post them. Do Iby GregL - Ormerod
My eyesight is not as good as I would like. When it comes to bed levelling, I have to use a torch to view the nozzle and sensor - rather unwieldy as well as using a hand! Ideally there would be a light to illuminate the relevant parts; any ideas on how to get some sort of LED set up and powered? Gregby GregL - Ormerod
Bon voyage Ian, You deserve the breakby GregL - Ormerod

Well, just about an hour into my first proper print - Ormaxis - and it seems to have got to Z=4.55mm A little Extruder stutter ( at high X numbers) as it was laying down the first few layers, so I may not have got the bed compensation just right. There definitely seems to be a 0.1mm hysterisis on the Z axis. Drop the Z until it just grabs my piece of paper (using pronterface) Up 0.1mm (still gby GregL - Ormerod
Dis-assembled the extruder gear, and looked carefully at it. What I discovered, I should have seen and attended to at first assembly. 1.The motor spindle was rubbing on the Extruder drive block - partly from a small blob where a corner of the motor went, but mostly because the hole was not concentric with the spindle. A little file sorted that. 2.The large extruder gear teeth were slightly too taby GregL - Ormerod
