Hi Erik, I'll try the three point plan when new materials arrive this was just a quick fix-up to see how it runs (as it happens, it wasn't so quick, sourcing screws of the right length, etc) - I plan on having a triangular support structure for the heater and glass to make levelling easier - this would be larger than the heated area itself (you'll notice that the extrusion I used is a littleby rayhicks - Ormerod
Hi Le-Seaw, If you mean the fan on the extruder, unfortunately not, it has to stay running all the time to prevent the heat moving up and metling the filament too soon (which effectively acts as a nozzle block), and prevent the printed bracket and X carriage from being affected by the heat. I sawed off the bottom of my fan holder and taped over the bottom, then sawed a hole in the top so that tby rayhicks - Ormerod
I had a look in here a while ago to see if anyone had tried acetal slides running on the extrusion itself, instead of additional smooth rod with ball bearings, but didn't find mention. I tried this out on my Ormerod today, and first impression is very positive (much quieter at high speeds than ball bearings for sure much too early to tell about longevity though ). I posted pictures and some inby rayhicks - Extruded Aluminum Frames
As I mentioned in another thread . One thing I've been considering for a while is to get rid of the noisy ball bearings and use plastic skates running in the slots of the aluminium extrusion. After Erik showed interest I thought I'd try it out over the weekend on the Y axis intially - rather than hijack another thread I thought I'd start a new one. Briefly I've used a piece of extrusion for aby rayhicks - Ormerod
Since I've thinned the cement with acetone as you suggested, I find it doesn't bubble so much (maybe I've thinned it more than you, I had only a scraping left in the pot before thinning) - normally I've just slit the tape with a stanley knife if I need to remove the glass for cleaning, but I haven't tried sticking it back on when hot, Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
Quotedc42 I'm wondering what the tolerance on the 1k thermistor series resistors fitted on the Duet board is - they could be part of the problem. I'll add a couple of 1k 0.1% resistors to my next component order. I think this is a good call dc - I connected up my replacement RRP duet today and it reads around 18°C at an ambient of 20 - I'll tabulate both if I get a chance tomorrow, but the T3P3by rayhicks - Ormerod
I've used kapton tape to hold my bed components together for months - it has the advantage that it binds all layers and the nozzle passes over it as if it wasn't there, I just press the layers at each corner gently together and wrap tape from glass surface round to the mdf underneath, I also tape over the exposed heater connectors if I remember to Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
PaulHam, If you're aiming at keeping it up at 50°, then you should print the lot in ABS I think, PLA softens a quite low temperatures (I looked this up on www.makeitfrom.com a couple of months ago when Victors in South Africa had X-Carriage problems) heat deflection temps @ 66psi:105°C for ABS and 65°C for PLA - I conjecture that the stresses held in the prints when they freeze may exert enoughby rayhicks - Ormerod
never mind the quality, feel the width! (which, admittedly, may not make much sense to the under-fifties) Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
These came out when I had a hangover a couple of months ago Looking back it looks like 192 didn't post a follow up on how well they worked, Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
Depends what you mean by "original" the original firmware didn't talk to pronterface! (I got it working with repetier mac and pointed to why it didn't work with pronterface) - RRP didn't realise that it didn't, because at the time all they were using was their web interface - of course that didn't help the first 200+ beacause our boards didn't have ethernet working on the whole... dc's firmwareby rayhicks - Ormerod
I've not used pronterface in an age, but Repetier on the Mac has a "disconnect" button (which toggles with "connect") and hitting that before pulling the usb works fine - otherwise it behaves exactly as you describe Dave (though I haven't tried the M111 thing) to the extent that when a print stalls spontaneoulsy, I can get four or five more moves by unplugging and replugging the USB, then anotheby rayhicks - Ormerod
Recently I've been running on the duet from T3P3D, I'll be swapping back to the RRP one tomorrow - I'll feed back what variation in readout there is between this sample of two, Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
My printer's been offline today (doing some rebuilding), but I tend to get similar readings to Matt on older firmware, haven't tried the new yet (I tabulated mine somewhere on the forum a while ago) - I actually have to turn the heating on in the room (or heat up the bed and put the nozzle near it) to get the firmware to view my hotend as not being disconnected on chilly mornings - I'll be fittinby rayhicks - Ormerod
Plus one on the board5 extra cost (what turnaround do mouser have by the way, I haven't used them because I've always suspected they ship in from the USA when they have enough orders to justify a shipment). Impressive turnaround on the pcb's - and they certainly look the part - would you care to share the supplier's details? Cheers Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
Dave, have you tried purposely disconnecting? Works fine on mine (which I found surprising, since if I don't disconnect I occasionally get freezes) Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
Hi Markus - have you played with the "expert" setting in cura? Especially the "fix horrible" settings which have a big effect on holes (and the top surface)... Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
Looks like you've had a busy weekend dc42 - all looks very rational, look forward to trying it, Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
The clicking (especially if you can see the bowden tube flexing at the same time) suggests that it might be a blockage - when you retract the filament after one of these events, is it gouged out on one side? (you get this when the wheel grinds as it tries to push the filament through but can't). I had a blockage that I managed to drill through a while ago - it wouldn't pull back out, I guess itby rayhicks - Ormerod
Nikita - sorry if you've been asked this before, but have you updated the firmware to a recent version (0.57m onwards)? The firmware that the Ormerod shipped with is quite unreliable, Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
I'd do as Erik says - the mdf is pretty poor for constraining anything. As dc42 says, one reason for the slope could be that the two Y bars are twisted vertically relative to each other - another might be clamping (if you have the bottom left corner clamped, but not the lower right, then the glass may be not sitting straight on the bed, or may be bowed down on the three clamped corners with a crby rayhicks - Ormerod
Ah, great - bookmarked now Thanks - Theseus would be impressed (as would Bauhaus) Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
QuoteDavek0974 As for prototypes, err, dunno, haven't even learnt 3d cad yet sad smiley If you're at all into scripting or programming, openScad is pretty powerful and although it doesn't let you do much mouse stuff, what you ask for is what you get - well worth a try www.openscad.org Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
LOL funny you chipped in just then Erik, I was busy looking up your all-metal spool holder to give Davek something to aim at And here it is : Cheers Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
QuoteKP I'm convinced I found separate PDFs for each section on GitHub in the last two days but now I can't find them. Kev. Interesting Kev - be useful to have I'll look as well (github's a bit of a labyrinth though, lots of familiar looking paths that end up as dead ends when you try to refind something, must remember to take some string next time) Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
plus one on the excellent - my ormaxis was more like shredded wheat in texture I gave up on it second time round and hit my Z post with a hammer until it was square all round Now you can get on and make those prototypes! (or spend weeks fine-tuning, however the mood grabs you) Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
Indeed Davek0974, I've found it best to just disconnect using my host (repetier Mac, which warns me about the heaters being on, but lets me continue) once the print is underway, then I can unplug the laptop and get on with some work Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
Plus one for a pdf - the few pages that were printable when I built mine were hard to read because of the web formating - it'd be handy if RRP condensed it all into one document when they revise it. Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
The X axis looks much more robust than the acrylic one, nice job Rayby rayhicks - Ormerod
