Quoteormerod168 but if there is no downside to bobtidey's solution I think I will do just that ..and I can't send back, can't wait for a warranty replacement Erik The easiest, neatest way to do the J10 method if using the ATX distribution board is to use the 3 way header on that as the source of 5V stby. So you, 1) Add 3 way jumper to Duet which has provision for this. 2) Make up a 2 wire caby bobtidey - Ormerod
Also you can connect the 5V stdby power through to the external +5V connection on the Duet and then use J10 to pass that through rather than J9. There is a 3way space for a pin header just below the main 12V connector to take the external 5V in. That allows it to work without USB power which is prone to being low voltage anyway by the time it has suffered drop in the cable plus passing through aby bobtidey - Ormerod
QuoteDavek0974 If your'e careful with the three screws, the nuts will stay in the ribs, they are pain if they fall out. Great stuff. Really looking forward to this. I wonder whether some tape might temporarily stop the nuts falling out during the swap.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I use this one ebay together with iamburny's duct which gives a more direct route. I think the fan is very similar to the model he used. Result: Fan noise insignificant.by bobtidey - Ormerod
Wouldn't saving them to file on the SD by the Duet have the same effect? Effectively treating the file as the equivalent of the Flash. It could either be update of the actual config.sys or a separate parameter file if you wanted to keep it independent. Either way it avoids a separate update from PC and doesn't use the Flash. Plus it survives a firmware update.by bobtidey - Ormerod
Singer sewing machiine oil is also quite a good choice for this type of job.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I think -273 is when the connection to thermistor is broken. Could you have disturbed wiring to that while fiddling with the firmware? For the web side did you update reprap.htm using iamburny reprap.remote.htm. That can be uploaded either via pronterface or copying (renamed to reprap.htm) into www folder on SD card. The browser then needs to be able to see the Duet and the internet. That wouldby bobtidey - Ormerod
Pronterface.exe is the compiled version of pronterface. The reprap custom one is the python program pronterface.py That can be run in a number of ways. The basic one is to open a cmd window and type python pronterface.py . If .py files are associated with python.exe then you should be able to double click it. If they aren't then you can add this by doing an right click open with and associatingby bobtidey - Ormerod
Great stuff. Let us know the Paypal payment procedure you want.by bobtidey - Ormerod
If you mean the actual PSU then I doubt whether you will find the schematic for that. That is a bought in component and there have been at least 2 different models used. I did do some reverse engineering of the critical bits of the Alpine in order to make it suit my needs better. Alpine If you mean the power distribution board then that should be available and the other 2 are also RepRap parts aby bobtidey - Ormerod
Great stuff. Thanks for the new functions. Refreshing config and reprap was the only reason I ever connected the USB. I did have one funny whilst putting this on. I tried doing it via Pronterface as I have done before and it would claim to start writing the reprap.htm but not finish. Duet was hung at that point and needed a reboot. Was repeatable. Maybe a line is exceeding Pronterface upload limby bobtidey - Ormerod
Assuming bendability (or lack of it) is one of the major selection criteria then Young's modulus of the material should be the significant factor as the amount of bend for a particular force is inversely linear against the modulus ( Table). MDF as in the supplied design has a typical modulus of 4 GPa in the same region as many 'rigid' plastics. Tufnol depending on grade is significantly better (by bobtidey - Ormerod
I know the software compensation sounds neat and I was in that camp when I first fired it up. How clever I thought that the software can level the bed by adjusting the Z as it moves around. This applies to either manually doing a setbed series of measurements or the automated method. However, for me manual levelling and no compensation, was the way to go, and once I'd made the switch the benefitby bobtidey - Ormerod
Quotedmould [ The only other issue is that it will conflict with the modification of putting the aluminium plate under the bed heater instead of on top. Dave (#106) Having done the mod where the spreader is below I was interested in that point as well. I wonder whether the PCB tracks would do the same job anyway as they should be effectively a ground plane for AC.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I did use 3 springs when I did this but more so it would be easier to tweak all 3 points if I found that necessary. I agree one could probably use 2 or 1. Ideally it would be nice to have the nut under the bed captured in some way so that tweaks canjust be from one end. Currently I need a spanner underneath. The other part to be careful about is there wasn't much clearance below on the back two sby bobtidey - Ormerod
My choice here when I get the new bed will be to continue with my present scheme but with the mdf replaced. I had already moved the spreader plate down onto the mdf as described in another thread on this topic. I haven't noticed any ill effects of the the heater being straight onto the glass without the spreader. I also use the 3 point sprung method already so the new bed will match that well. QuoteDavek0974 I'm not even sure how you change reels yet so have just left it fitted. filament changing had good instructions for changing filaments and the principles work well for me. From web interface I just raise temp, reverse feed 10mm, drop temp, and do 4 100mm reverses at full speed. On the last one the filament stops coming out and you just pull it out. For storage of other filamentby bobtidey - Ormerod
Another possibility which I suffered from initially is the extruder gears rubbing on the side of the extruder body. This can be made worse if the gears are not quite concentric as that can drive them down harder onto the body. I fixed mine by putting an extra washer between the larger gear and the body.by bobtidey - Ormerod
Great. Looking forward to this. Can you make the modded dxf available?by bobtidey - Ormerod
Paypal fine for me. Having the holes or pilots would make it easier.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I think you'll find there is already a delete. It's the little dustbin next to each file. I find it maybe a little too easy to inadvertently start a print instead of deleting. Maybe a rule to clarify the separation or a countdown of a few seconds before launching the actual print when it could be aborted.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I think circle runs at whatever Z is currently set to. It doesn't include any Z setting. So you can put Z near 0 and watch the circle skim th ebed.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I'm definitely in for one at any of those prices.by bobtidey - Ormerod
It might be worth looking at the modified extruder block here extruder wear. This can line the input with ptfe tube. Although the same ptfe tube as the output will work it is a bit stiff. I used a 0.3mm wall ptfe tube which has a bigger internal diameter and is more flexible. This allows the filament to slide through nicely.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I managed to get the audio on the webcam sorted and that does make it more useful as one can have the tweets and z step whistles as low level 'background music' to check nothing nasty is going on.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I wonder if there is any benefit in a collaboration to buy a few rather than one-off. I know quite a fair bit of the costing is cutting time which obviously scales but there must be a significant overhead as well. Plus one could put 2 or 4 together to make a rectangular shape and maybe help with cost on that front.by bobtidey - Ormerod
I've had a few PLA reels now from Galactic Warehouse on that link and they have all worked well, just as good as the material supplied with the machine. I did get 1 PLA reel from a different eBay source which did not work so well and came out a bit thin. It might be that it needed a higher temp so I'll revisit that at some point but for now I'm sticking with Galactic.by bobtidey - Ormerod
USB webcam is OK if there is a permanent PC next to printer. What I really meant is that by making the stream available as IP then it is accessible from anywhere you need it. I just lobbed on a spare webcam and am streaming it with VLC and that is working fine although I need to adjust the lighting a bit. I now have a downward looking view onto the print table. Audio not working yet so I mayby bobtidey - Ormerod
I too find the android tablet access very useful for seeing progress from any location around the house. It runs perfectly with the standard css. It might be nice to have a read-only mode to avoid any inadvertent operations. The webcam (ip rather than usb) is a seriously good idea that that I also want to add. Of course, an optional frame for this in the web client would be perfect. If it has aby bobtidey - Ormerod
