I've tried dipping an ABS print directly into acetone. Only needs a few seconds. The gopro holder didn't really work as the walls are quite thin.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Quotedmould I tried some PET filament over the weekend, it is reputedly stronger than ABS and easier to print so I thought it may be better for my quadcopter parts. Dave I've used both PLA (Purple) and ABS (Pink) for my Quadcopter. I think the ABS is a better material for this job as it's more flexible. I've had a few crashes and both materials seem to stand up OK.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Nice finish Erik Is the acetone soaked into the cardboard?by Jon Steward - Ormerod
The PLA I've had varies more so in quality than ABS. I prefer the feel of ABS when finished but like Dave mentioned it can be tricky to stick when a large surface area is trying to attach itself to the print surface (glass in my case)by Jon Steward - Ormerod
I've not had this issue at all with ABS or PLA And I leave my filament in for days sometimes. My extruder is a PLA type and one I printed months ago. So probably quite slack. Maybe it's to do with the filament contracting. i.e tightly held in the extruder as the hot end cools? Just a guess.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Hi Don Erik advised me to flip the Y axis first then the z axis. This worked for me. Thanks Erik, I've used the latest Slic3r experimental software and can adjust the x, y and z 'flipping' from the 'Object' tab. Which is new to Slic3r. I'm currently printing Yella's enclosure in grey ABS on glass, ZPL recons I'm lucky to achieve this but still no problem for me. Each flip took about 40 minutes.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Hi This is probably a silly question. I'd like to print the free standing Panel due enclosure. So having downloaded the stl from Thingiverse and opened up the file in Slic3r. I found the object upside down and inverted. I managed to flip the object around the Z axis but not managed to invert it. (see print) Where am I going wrong?by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Just received my PanelDue board. (Thanks DC42) What is the best LCD to use?by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Thanks Erik Much appreciated. What program are you using there?by Jon Steward - Ormerod
I've received a couple of files that I'd like to print. I don't think these files were created in a 3D printing format so I have tried to view these in Slic3r and generate a g code file. Am I going to have any success?by Jon Steward - Ormerod
The PSU is a really good upgrade. I use DC42's PSU cover but found it slightly too tight to push all the way back. I would try a rescale by 5% larger. The switch at the front and indicator light are nice touches and I've directly connected the 12V wires via a 20mm stuffing gland, (no connectors) Is 14VOK?. I read in the instructions the 13.5V was the highest. Don't want to damage anything. Is tby Jon Steward - Ormerod
Now you've got me checking! Purchased from ebay a few months ago, No exact detail on my ebay history, just says ABS/PLA. No info on the reel either. So test time.. Extruded filament at 240, measure .47mm diameter At 185 measures .63mm Photo shows nice extrusion at 240 (left in photo) and poor quality at 185 (right in photo) So I reckon I have been printing ABS on glass. I've ordered another reelby Jon Steward - Ormerod
Erik. You do need to get out more! I'm really motoring now with ABS on glass. Thought I might try a 2mm brim on the latest ABS on glass print.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Try printing directly to glass. (wash glass with hot soapy water, dry and wipe with vinegar) After printing at a bed temp of about 90 the print is not stuck.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Quoteormerod168 Did you print the x-carriage on glass too? - and with no brim?, its rather high print that might slip and tip over Erik I must be really lucky as I've now managed to print off 3 ABS x carriages directly to glass. Using 240 nozzle, 120 bed for first layer then 110 for the rest. I get a smooth flat base, no upturned corners. Just need to get the extruder to deliver the filament bby Jon Steward - Ormerod
I've attached a photo of the ABS extruder printed directly onto glass. I hope I wasn't just lucky, having read the lengths people go to with acetone and abs mixes etc maybe I was. I printed at 120 for the first layer then 110 for the rest. At 90 the print pulled free from the bed. 110 looks about right for the moment. It's important to print a x carriage first in ABS as this fails rapidly. I'm onby Jon Steward - Ormerod
Thankfully it's not quite as bad as that green seaweed in your photo! Looks like I have just the odd air bubble in the filament which pops and leaves a very small gap in the filament trail. I don't expect perfect filament from cheap ebay sellers. I did recently get some bad PLA from a different ebay seller to my usual which has random flat spots which get stuck in the extruder and stops the flow,by Jon Steward - Ormerod
When printing with ABS (I've just started) I notice a 'pop' every once in a while from the nozzle as the filament gets extruded. Doesn't seem to effect the print. I assume I have the nozzle temp to high (240)by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Impressive stuff as usual. I'm looking forward to this development.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
That's sad to hear. I put mine aside for 6 months when I ran out of time. Glad I didn't sell it as I now have a bit more time and thoroughly enjoying the latest modifications. You've done some cracking prints too. That tank looks really tricky to do.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Just a quick glance. G31 Z2.1 P370 looks wrong. P500 is what DC42 recommends in the probe commissioning. I'd check that bit.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
Thanks Dave Is this what you use?by Jon Steward - Ormerod
I don't understand German is there and English ebay link?by Jon Steward - Ormerod
QuoteTreth I've been 'away' from my Ormerod 007 for far too long, but I aim to get it back working and upgraded with all the great enhancements mentioned above (and the exciting LCD interface) over/after the Christmas Hols. One item I like on Ormerod 2 is the metal Duet enclosure, is this compatible with the Ormerod. I'm quite happy to sort out mechanical fittings so wondered if it is a suitableby Jon Steward - Ormerod
Thanks for getting back David. That's the thread I looked at for the alternative connector position which brought my x home back into play and enabled me to print a snowman. My duet via Arduino displays ok T:17.4 B 21.7 when I input M105 web is pretty much the same. fan still on.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
I've read loads of threads but struggled to find much on commissioning kit 5. When commissioning kit 5 my fan stays on and doesn't switch off when unplugging the thermistor. (checked continuity of white wire) Also. can anyone confirm the duet connector positions for the white and blue wires. The commissioning info says put the white directly above the blue (9 from the right) Thanks Jonby Jon Steward - Ormerod
I'm now printing again perfectly and not exactly sure what sorted it. 1. Reloaded SD image file. Didn't sort it. 2. Checked motor connections. All OK. 3. Reset Z probe height using IR sensor and away she went. Printed a perfect snowman! The only other thing I can think of that I noticed different was that the nozzle was too close to the glass. Anyway. Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.by Jon Steward - Ormerod
