Thanks Andy. I have never got on with Pronterface to be honest, I remember having issues with it and my Ormerod. Once I switched to Daves firmware and the web interface, I never looked back. I will maybe give Cura/Repetier Host a try and at some point down the road I may look at doing a custom web interface for the Smoothieboard. As for the CP, it's at least printing, just needs some more tweaby Pointy - Delta Machines
Quotenka If print is bad, its not releated to the slicer, but more to the calibration. (Hard to tell without the part). If you think the calibration is good, then try to lower the speed to somewhere 40-50 mm/s with perimeter around 30 and travel at 60-70. If you don't get a nice print with that, there's a problems on the hardware and/or calibration. Thanks for the reply, and I am sure you are cby Pointy - Delta Machines
I have finally got my CP printing, but it needs some work/tweaking. I modified the rod carriers and carriages slightly, so that there are 2 fixing holes on the bottom edge, and the single fixing at the top. I then double checked everything was secure and then ran through the calibration. Finally tonight i got brave enough to print something, while it did actually print first time, that quality waby Pointy - Delta Machines
Quotedougal1957Les you may have to modify the effector design slightly to add a mounting plate on one of the corner's to take whatever dave comes up with (It would need to have provision to move the probe up or down to suit the hotend as well) Yes, as soon as Dave has a design I can model it in sketchup and add some mounts. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
Quotedc42Les, how much depth is there between the bottom of the effector plate and the tip of the nozzle on your build?. I have 8mm from the bottom side of the effector to the tip of the nozzle. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
I am definitely interested Dave, as you know. Size is going to be the key thing, I am using a version of AndyCarts CPIIIs sprung effector, and there is limited space to fit one. I had this crazy idea, which probably isn't feasible due to noise or interference, but is it possible to separate the sensor part from the main PCB? You could then have a tiny PCB mounted on the bottom of the effector wiby Pointy - Delta Machines
I had first layer problems with the same filament and Kapton tape, I have now abandoned the tape and use plain glass with a 10-1 watered down solution of PVA (just wipe over a couple of times with a cloth on a hot bed). Never had the problem since. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Ormerod
Glad to see you are making progress Doug. What are the dimensions? Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
Nice build P4tje. I am still puzzled by the variation in my end stops. I check the tower heights and they all measure the same from the top of the bottom bracket to the underside of the top bracket, the switches all protrude by the same amount from the top brackets, I even tried another piece of glass. So what else would cause such a variation? I have ordered a set of 300mm digital callipers sby Pointy - Delta Machines
I didn't get as far as printing, in fact I didn't even get it calibrated to my satisfaction. I spent a few hours tweaking values, homing, checking without reaching the desired results. I am a little puzzled why the endstop trim values vary so much. alpha_trim -4.350 # software trim for alpha stepper endstop (in mm) beta_trimby Pointy - Delta Machines
Glad yours is coming along Doug. I have made some more progress... The new board mounts worked much better and are now in 2 pieces rather than 4, which makes it a bit stronger. I got everything wired up, extruder calibrated, and then got stupidly brave and hit the home button in Pronterface, without having my finger on the switch. The carriers moved the wrong way and rods went flying everywhereby Pointy - Delta Machines
Well that was a bit of a failure. First off the brackets are no good, there isn't enough room to get the USB cable in, so I am currently printing mark 2. Next up, all of my end switches were broken, so I had to replace them. I was trying to keep things neat with heatshrink, but the heatshrink obviously didn't want to bend when I put the caps on and damaged the switches instead. (Really glad I pby Pointy - Delta Machines
QuoteAndyCart I don't fit feet to my designs as it does make wiring the endstops more difficult. I just stick two 20mm diameter felt pads to the base of each stepper mount. The mount has a 10mm 'foot' designed in to give clearance for either the on board PSU for non heated bed builds and/or the RAMPS board. Yes it made it a tad awkward, I had to drill a small hole just under the top T-Nut and pby Pointy - Delta Machines
Quotedougal1957Is that slot cap strips I see in the extrusions? think I should have ordered some of them and some feet as well? Yes it's the cover and reduction profile. I forgot to say I am also using some dampers on the axis motors. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
I finally got all the required parts this week and begun the assembly of my CPIII. Here's where we are at.... I just have the electronics to finish off, which includes making some mounting brackets for the Smoothieboard. Here are some notes on the build so far The Motedis aluminium profile looks exactly the same as the parts supplied with my Ormerod and the carriages appear to run nicely. Iby Pointy - Delta Machines
Great to see you have got this working Dave. I have my Delta pretty much built and just have to do the electronics. While I want to use the Duet in it, I think for now I will start with the Smoothieboard and switch over in the near future. I am going to need the Ormerod to print a few parts for one thing, such as mounts for the electronics. I also thought it might be a good idea to get it up andby Pointy - Delta Machines
Quotedougal1957I am going to be using a E3D V6 and its fan is very quiet as well and I haven't yet needed a print cooling fan and that can be controlled from the duet anyway can't it? Doug Just connect it to Fan0 on the Duet and then it can be controlled by M106 & M107. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
Thanks for the reply Dave, Quotedmould I assume you will be fitting 2 Z drives, one on each tower? My choice would be to keep the screw drive method, and fit a second stepper motor & screw jack to the other tower, connected in series. A tell-tale pointer at the top of each screw jack is used to check that they start off at the same relative height when power is first applied. An alternatiby Pointy - Ormerod
Hi, I am planning on a major rebuild of my Ormerod 1 in the near future. I have already virtually modded it beyond recognition, in fact I think the only original Ormerod 1 parts left are the 2 Z bearing clamps. The biggest mod was Chris1965's bed frame. This improved things drastically, the Y axis is perfect, but I have never been happy with the X axis, even with the aluminium plate/rib. Theby Pointy - Ormerod
Quotedc42 Hi Les, the Smoothie looks like a nice board and people seem to like it. The only problem I can see is that the web interface is rather primitive as far as I can tell from the documentation. But I expect someone will write a better one. How much did you pay for your Smoothieboard? The European supplier appears to charge a fair bit more (Eur110+VAT for the 4XC) than RepRapPro charges foby Pointy - Delta Machines
Nice work Dave, I wasn't sure how close you were to getting the Duet firmware working with Deltas, so I went for a Smoothieboard. Apart from that, my Duet has a problem with the USB connection and I am waiting to here back from Reprap support.( I have a feeling it's going to have to go back or be replaced) How is the printer working compared to the original Mega/Ramps? QuoteAndyCart Hi Guys I've uploaded a video of Cherry Pi IIIS Metal printing at 120mm/s I've also put together a calibration guide (attached) hopefully you will find it useful for setting up your machines. Andy Nice guide, thanks Andy and that printing looks insane, it just needs the Benny Hill music. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines

The image below shows the KJN profile on the right and the Open Builds V slot on the left :- If you use a different V wheel than the OpenBuilds Mini them the spacing on the tower carriages may be incorrect! So parts have started arriving already, today I got the 608 bearings and a nice package from westfield fasterners with all the bolts/nuts and washers required for the build. Yesterday I picked up a cheap (£2.59) 25cm mirror plate from the Range, it's only 4mm thick and has a stupid candle sticker on it (easily removed) but might do the job. Don't give up Pugzor, you'll get there. Having decided to build one of these beauties, I can't wait to get started. I have pretty much all parts on order now, so it's just a waiting game. The only changes I have decided to make are a Smoothieboard instead of the Mega/Ramps 1.4 and an E3D V6 hotend. I'll post updates as and when I get started. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
I have decided to go down a completely different road and build a Cherry Pi III. One of thing's I wasn't so keen on with the Mini Kossel is the 15mm Aluminium extrusion. The Cherry Pi III uses 20mm Aluminium extrusion, which apart from being a bit stronger I have plenty of fittings for it. I have also decided to go with the Smoothieboard. Wish me luck! Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
That's a nice clean build you have there, great job. I had never heard of the Smoothieboard until I read your post and after reading up on their website I really like the look of it. I love the way the configuration works, it looks so simple to set up. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
Thanks for the reply Dave, please keep me updated with your Duet delta progress. Having had another look around, there doesn't seem to be many options for small kits in the UK, looks like the think3dprint3d one is my only option, unless someone else knows better. As nothing is likely to ship until next week, I have a few more days to think about it. Regards, Lesby Pointy - Delta Machines
Quotedc42 Hi Les, have you seen my comparison of the Ormerod and the Mini Kossel here ? I have done very few prints with the Mini Kossel so far, so others on this forum can tell you more about its print quality than I can. It certainly takes up far less space than the Ormerod! The only issues I had with the MK were to do with bed probing. I am in the process of adding support to my fork of Repby Pointy - Delta Machines
Hi, I have a limited experience with 3d printing, I built an Ormerod 1 about 8 months ago. I have found it both immense fun and frustration in my quest for consistent quality prints. I think a lot of my problems stem from the fact the printer is in a cold/damp environment out in my workshop, so I would like a small quiet Delta printer that I can use indoors in my study.
