Here's a good chunk of info, off of the main RepRap blog. The idea is to grind up plastic, or simply use granule form which is much more common than filament plastic, and extrude that.by NewPerfection - General

I look forward to your write up. I have a completed McWire (minus the extruder) but it seems to have one major limitation - the movement speed is severely limited by using drive screws. I may either try to convert the XY stages to belt driven or go for a different design altogether. Haven't decided yet.by NewPerfection - Mechanics
This is being worked on. The problem is reliably producing a consistent filament to run through your extruder.by NewPerfection - General
I saw mentioned somewhere about using an arduino as a USB to serial adapter for programming, glad to see someone tried it! I was hoping to avoid buying a $20 cable when I eventually move to the RepRap motherboard, and it looks like i can!by NewPerfection - Controllers
Here. $3.66 USD shipped for free anywhere in the world. Direct from China. There are others on the site for even cheaper. SD cards are used everywhere nowadays.by NewPerfection - General
Do you have the boards hooked up to the correct pins? The test code uses different pins than the official reprap wiring diagram uses.by NewPerfection - Controllers
WTF, someone delete this thread PLEASE!by NewPerfection - RepLab Working Group
Buying a small USB SD card reader, such as this would probably cost less than the added complexity of a USB host on the motherboard.by NewPerfection - General
My dad bought one of those NextEngine scanners. From what he's told me, getting a proper scan of anything more complex than a football is a pain.by NewPerfection - General
Those values should be fine, though you can try turning them down some. Anyone else have any ideas?by NewPerfection - Controllers
Did you check what the feedrate and steps per mm are set to? If they are set too high the motor won't run.by NewPerfection - Controllers
Hmmm, all six of my opto stops work perfectly.by NewPerfection - Controllers

I think only one vertical base is really necessary. Using two will give you more rigidity, which is probably necessary if you are using the bot to machine instead of print. I am just using one at the moment.by NewPerfection - Reprappers
I believe your problem is that those boards are for generation 1 electronics, which have been discontinued. The current gen 2 boards are available, as well as the experimental gen 3. Look here for the required gen 2 electronics: and here for the gen 3:by NewPerfection - Reprappers
I just bought a tap and used plain 10-24 screws. The tap was about $5, and it makes it much easier if and when you have to disassemble and reassemble everything, no worries about cross threading.by NewPerfection - Reprappers
MotorAssist Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi Charles, > Shame I can't remember where (on here) I read it, > but 4" springs are mostly too long. Yep, I figured this out as I have been building my McWire. The x-stage uses a 4" spring, but the y- and z- stages use 2" springs, i picked them up from a local Ace hardware store. I'm not sure what the verticby NewPerfection - Reprappers
OuZo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hey NewPerfection, > I'd be interested on seeing your progress as you > go along as well... Sure, maybe I'll start a blog to keep track of where I'm going with it. I already have the electronics together and working, but I'm only as far as gathering most of the materials for the McWire.by NewPerfection - General
I don't quite understand the problem. Yeah the links are broken, but does it affect anything? When you generate a shopping list the "buy" links work, which show you exactly what the part is. Edit: FYI, a number of the links don't work. I have ordered and found everything I've needed for the McWire, and hadn't even noticed that the links were broken. Shows you how necessary they are :pby NewPerfection - General
I use Solid Works as well. I'm not at the point of having a working machine yet though, hopefully in the next week or so though!by NewPerfection - RepRap Host
I'm in the U.S. I haven't seen any motors with similar specs for any less than those Lin Engineering ones. I just ordered three of them, so I'll see how they work. I'll let you guys know!by NewPerfection - Mechanics
Yeah, you definitely need either a strong motivation or technical ability to put one of these together. I had very little electronics experience before I got started researching for this project, however I do have a strong understanding of the theory of electronics. I have done a ton of research before taking the plunge and getting parts. I already have the electronics soldered and working, whby NewPerfection - Reprappers
^^ Do those Lin Engineering motors work well? I found those a little while ago, and have been trying to decide what motors I want to go with. Those look like decent motors at a good price.by NewPerfection - Mechanics
That would be really nice to have. I am going to be building a McWire as soon as I'm done putting all the electronics together. The PCB's and Arduino are supposed to be here todayby NewPerfection - Reprappers
^^Haha I know how that goes. I spend too much on electronics stuff. I'm lucky I'm getting the electronics stuff for Christmas.by NewPerfection - Controllers
Post your progress here. I'm going to be building a McWire as well. I'm getting all the electronics, motors, and laser cut acrylic pieces for Christmas. Once I get the electronics working, I'll head to the hardware store and get the rest of the stuff. I also plan on using it to produce the parts for a Darwin, then transferring the electronics etc. over. Good luck!by NewPerfection - Reprappers
Thanks I'm real excited for this!by NewPerfection - General
Hello everyone. My name is Cameron, and I live in Prescott, AZ. I'm a sophomore studying aerospace engineering. I've been following the RepRap project for over a year now, and have finally gotten the motivation to get involved. I'm getting most of the components for a McWire as well as the electronics as a Christmas present. I'm really excited to get started! I'm sure I'll be on here plentyby NewPerfection - General
Well, I'm going to be starting on a Seedling RepStrap this Christmas. I'm getting at least the electronics portion as a Christmas present. I'm up in Prescott, going to school at Embry-Riddle.by NewPerfection - Arizona, Phoenix RepRap User Group
