Slightly OT but Ian or anyone else from RepRapPro, any time frame guesstimate of when you'll be officially adding support for the two extra heads i.e. the trihead / tricolour option? I'm hoping it'll at least be sooner than for the Mendel where IIRC your page was saying it would be "coming soon" for over a year or more before you made it available ;-) Also able to offer any info on when you'll bby Nil Einne - Ormerod
QuoteDeuxVis That's outsourced to T3dP3d : Featurefull but a bit expensive IMO. On the other hand, it sounds like they only need an expansion board for the two extra extruders (actually can support total of 8 axis controls or a total of 5 extruders with 3 axis although I presume 2 Melzi can as well). The expansion board seems to only need extra drivers and a few other stuff etc but doesn't neby Nil Einne - Ormerod
I see this is also supposed to have tricolour/triple head support which will be "coming soon". Hopefully this "coming soon", will be faster than for the RepRapPro Mendel where IIRC it was a year or more before it became available. They've done most of the important work since they got it working on their Mendel (and even included mounts on the Ormerod), so I would think so but I guess you never kby Nil Einne - Ormerod
QuoteSuljo From my mailings to you I show you from what problem to another problems I came from and how desperate I was. Due lack of communications from you RepRap "PRO"side of support (not answering for few days even a week) I try to find help here on this forum. Yes before 10 days you tell me to check: 1. QuotePaulusedtoorg Actually, I do think Andrew does have a point here despite the example of the water purification (and not being open source) and a hefty debate. I think anyone who can come anywhere near or nearest to the prize criteria should be able to win the Prize or at least have an encouragement prize. Then you have solved the issue of the challenge criteria being too hard or complex anby Nil Einne - Kartik M. Gada Humanitarian Innovation Prize
Quoterhmorrison @Traumflug: "genuine"? Didn't you want to write "brilliant" or maybe "a touch of genius". My read of their comment is they actually meant original or perhaps unique. I believe Traumflug is a native German speaker and while I don't know that much about German, I imagine the difference between genuine and original in English may be confusing since they are sometimes used in similby Nil Einne - Kartik M. Remember that RepRapPro is partly owned and run by Adrian. While I don't think he has much involvement in the marketing, sales or unit production side, I would hope that he at least has enough good influence that the claims of accuracy can be treated with a similar degree of trust to a reliable forum member. Of course, if you aren't producing from a RepRapPro kit, that's a different matter.by Nil Einne - General
Having looked in to thise myself before, I agree with bobc, while there have been a few other discussions, Adrian's work seems to be the most hopefully and the RepRapPro site has been promising multiple-head support for a long while so hopefully they will deliver ;-) The recent video looks hopefully. Biodegradability is obviously a useful thing and of fair interest in some cases. I think the interest in Laywood is more for the look of any products made with it though.by Nil Einne - Polymer Working Group
Hi, I've been interested in the RepRap for a while (started during Darwin days) but cost/funds has been putting me off. Over the past few months I started to look more closely again and although it's not the cheapest option Mendel derivatives still seem to be of most interest to me. Anyway one of the things I'm partially waiting out for since first reinvestigating a few months ago, is multiplby Nil Einne - General Mendel Topics
I may have misunderstood but I think the OP is well area of grrf.de (they mentioned Laywood), they're just wondering if they know enough to make it themselves. As I understand it there is a fair amount of interest in duplicating something like the German wood composite particularly since supplies are short, but no one has managed it yet at least not that they're willing to reveal publicly. Now the deadline is passed, does anyone know if anyone submitted an entry? Of course you could submit an entry even if you have little chance of winning (weren't even close to meeting the criteria) but I'm wondering if anyone bothered. The fact there doesn't seem to have been anyone suggesting they feel they have meet the goals or are planning to enter and it's supposed to be something people aby Nil Einne - Kartik M. If you have more questions I suggest you start your own thread as this one is 1.5 years old and the only relation is the other person had a problem with their Cupcake too. Reading about that is fairly pointless for people who are trying to help you and many may assume the problem is either long resolved or beyond help.by Nil Einne - General

I've been checking out progress every so often but been a while since I posted. Perhaps I should start a new topic but it seems it'll fit here too. What sort of cost range is it currently go get a Mendel up from scratch presuming you're willing to wait & look around for parts, beg someone to provide you with the plastic stuff etc? Someone I know with experience in DIY building and repairing stuff told me it's usually better to go to an engineering supply store then a fastening specialist. Fastening people are fine, if you need thousands of them but for odds and ends an engineering supply store is more like to have what you need. What kind of volume would 50 or 100 kg be? From what I've read, it would be between ~US$500-US$1500 for 100kg for shipment to the USA. For 100kg or over, by ship may be cheaper. You can go to something like UPS to get a quick idea. I got quoted 3,632.83 CNY (i.e. 531.100 USD) for 100 kg Shanghai to some random Zip code in NY (10005) but that's presuming volumetric weight doesn't apply, neglectiby Nil Einne - General

Wasn't planning to mention this but decided to go ahead.
