I had the same problem. Even using the two holes in the mounting plate did not help. I printed some Z brackets for the Y and Z motors...it keeps them very snug to the wooden base. This weekend, I will be testing my addition of a wooden frame that supports and aligns the Z smooth rods. It seems to have really helped with the rigidness of the printer which I hope will in turn, improve the priby botbuilder - Smart_Rap
Quoteknife-edge So I will go with the inductive sensor. Is it in config h? And do I put it so that it is above the tip of the hotend? I'm confused as how to set it up. If you were already using autoleveling with the switch, the changes to the config.h are trivial. The tip of the sensor is only 1-2 mm above hotend. Here is a good video that explains how to set it all up: https://www.youtube.by botbuilder - Smart_Rap
The spring approach helped, but I still got uneven first layers. I also didn't like the wobble that was introduced with a single hinge point. Snugging up the screw eliminated the wobble, but increased the resistance in the arm that holds the hotend. Seems like I was always fiddling with the screw, spring tension and switch lever. I haven't tested the sensor repeatability itself, but I can sayby botbuilder - Smart_Rap
I felt the same way. I could not get an even first layer because I believe the resistance from the bowden tube and wire bundle is inconsistent across the build plate and affects the switch activation. The Marlin autolevel compensation could not deal with the variances, even with the delta parameter that was introduced. I went ahead and redesigned a mount for the 6mm bar version that integratesby botbuilder - Smart_Rap
I just ran mine without a fan and wish I didn't. Now need to reprint the mount and attachment since they are now warped. I like the simplicity of the new mounting system with servo-less auto-leveling, but I think it introduces too much movement in both z and x axis. I also have the previous smartrap design with the servo. It did take a little more time to build and configure, but really havenby botbuilder - Smart_Rap
Is a fan necessary when running a Jhead lite? Currently building latest version smartrap from github and my 40mm fan almost matches the extra holes on the head attachment bracket, but not quite. Deciding if I should rig something or go without a fan. What's everyone else doing?by botbuilder - Smart_Rap
cristian, I really like those z axis rod holders. Can you share?by botbuilder - Smart_Rap
I am currently building a .491/2 Smartrap and still haven't decided if I will be using belts or rack/pinion. It is my second Smartrap and have decided to make all axis approximately 50mm longer than BOM dimensions. I printed several 80mm racks from STLs from a previous smartrap version in github. Although they printed nicely, they don't seem to fit together that nicely. Perhaps when I stringby botbuilder - Smart_Rap
Nice job Cliff. It looks to incorporate some things that I have been looking for in the base. I have also been thinking about relocating the extruder. If there was a way of putting it on top of the z axis, then it would shorten and straighten the bowden tube, thus making it easier to push filament and less play in extraction/retraction.by botbuilder - Smart_Rap
Still having occasional problems with slanted prints on my smartrap. I have to constantly monitor the string tension on both axis. Have restrung both axis several times, keeping 7 turns of string on the motor. Have cranked down the speed and acceleration to the point its painfully slow to watch. Going to go with the GT2 mashup approach like MadMike8. Will give me a chance to extend the x hoby botbuilder - Smart_Rap
The two on the left were printed together. Their slant matches each other (they were facing each other on the plate). I printed the middle one again separately and it is on the right.by botbuilder - Smart_Rap
After printing many calibration and test pieces, I felt that my machine was within reasonable tolerance of printing a spare set of smartrap parts. However, after printing a plate of a bunch of parts, I noticed that the parts are slanting slightly in the x direction. Thought this was odd since I never saw a slant when I printed cubes and towers during the calibration. So I then printed a singleby botbuilder - Smart_Rap
I used this utility (http://www.buildlog.net/gview/index.html) to see the entire gcode model rendered along with toolpaths. I could see that the toolpath crossed the hole right at the nub locations. Per your advise, increased retract length and speed and the hole was completely clean. Even passed the double xy nickel test perfectly on the first try. Thanks!by botbuilder - Printing
Here are my retraction settings: retract_before_travel = 2 retract_layer_change = 1 retract_length = 3 retract_length_toolchange = 10 retract_lift = 0 retract_restart_extra = 0 retract_restart_extra_toolchange = 0 retract_speed = 37 Bowden cable is 360mm long with a MK7 gear. I'm new to reprap...what would be a good recommendation?by botbuilder - Printing
dnsseguin, Did you solve this problem? I am only getting one bump per hole though. Seems like the larger the hole, the larger the bump. Using the same version of slicer.by botbuilder - Slic3r
Using Slic3r v0.9.10b and a newly built SmartRap printer (Bowden with Huxley hotend) Using 1.75 PLA initial layer temp = 200, following layers 190. All of my holes have this small imperfection. Seems like the larger the hole, the larger the bump. Can this be fixed in the slicer?by botbuilder - Printing
I bought a new ramps 1.4 card with A4988 driver modules from someone on ebay. The modules will not fit next to each other on the ramp board, because there is a very small overlap of the PCB over the end of the module. Is it ok to file the edges of the driver modules to make room, or am I doing something wrong?by botbuilder - RAMPS Electronics
tymm, I'm planning on building this one too. Have been waiting for the right time before getting a set of printed parts. Now that the machine is in production (v.5), maybe its time? Do you know what version of the printed parts you got?by botbuilder - Smart_Rap
