Quotecns1 I'll take a crack at it... Guess 1), using sound linear motion design practice, the other side of the shaft should be supported by a bearing in that application, most motors that are readily available to rep-rappers world wide come with too short a shaft, or the shaft has a flat on one or both sides. Guess 2), the distance that you can move an axis using cable drive is limited by theby duranza - Tantillus
Your flow rate is too high. It looks like it's over extruding, too many steps per mm in the extruder calibration.by duranza - Printing
I have given thought about printing the bearings from PLA. I will have to put this on my to-do list, as I have already greased mine but they seem sticky at times.by duranza - Smart_Rap
The only way to fry it would be to ground the positive. Try swapping the driver to the X or Y axis to see if it is dead. When I started I did manage to fry my extruder driver, but it was due to over-driving it because it was kicking back. Be careful not to lean the metal screw driver and touch the heatsink. I should also add, do not by any circumstance try to remove/swap any wiring while the boaby duranza - Smart_Rap
stepper calibration picture You really can't go by potentiometer dial location. They vary from driver to driver. Do it this way and really be sure you are getting enough power and not under driving the stepperby duranza - Smart_Rap
Are you using a multimeter? You would have to set the negative to a ground pin and clamp the positive to the metal screwdriver. That way you can tune it while you see the value.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Make sure you have the stepper driver set to at least 1 amp. The Z axis has a lot of weight to carry and can be easily overloaded. The default Smartrap feed rates should work very good. If not, then check the drivers.by duranza - Smart_Rap
The latest release allows for all 3 axis drive trains. The end plates come fitted with GT2 slits, rack and pinion/ fishing line hole. Serge wants the smartrap to be flexible letting people choose what to use.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I made my wife a pen holder with her name for her desk. Now she is starting to see the capabilities other than my own stuff.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I'm using the latest cura and just printed 2 racks and they came out good. Check that the new fishing line is not slipping.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Or you can do what MeIT has done and re-direct some airflow to the printby duranza - Smart_Rap
Thanks RegPye for pointing out a probability of a faulty ramps board. This whole time that was the problem. I decided to move the endstop to the not used z max header and changed the pins in the firmware. That did the trick. Now I'm wondering how in the world was it homing before? Also looking at the ramps board, it looks to me as if the pins go straight through to the ardunino, so maybe that pinby duranza - Smart_Rap
Very nice. I'm very impressed by this printer design and how well it holds up.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Quoteregpye Quoteduranza It has always been like this. I could never get the auto level to work, but the regular 28 works fine. The Z min shows open, but the z max is triggered. I had a faulty RAMPS board once, it was triggered when not even connected. Worth to take the plug off and check the actual board, you may have one like that too. Funny you say this, because it shows triggered even withby duranza - Smart_Rap

I tested with a multimeter and the switch works at the plug good. It is NC and I have it plugged to the ramps Z min (-) I also have a rubber band that keeps down pressure to release the arm from the switchby duranza - Smart_Rap
I have but nothing changes. I just ran M119 and the z max shows as triggered. could this be the cause?by duranza - Smart_Rap
I'm still trying out the auto leveling and almost got it going, but when I set the z height between probing it doesn't change anything and the nozzle scrapes when going from one location to the other.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Wow very nice print. That's how you use the whole bed travelby duranza - Smart_Rap
You don't have to print them full size. I was thinking of making 2 pieces at 1/2 the size I need and use all-tread through the middle hole to join them to make one pieceby duranza - Smart_Rap
It is the same filament as before. But without the geared extruder I had to up the temperature to be able to extrude without kicking back. The clicking you hear is the fishing line rubbing against itself around the stepper motor adapter bobbin. I'm using a rubber band around the arm and plate to keep the arm down and off the limit switch because it was tripping before.by duranza - Smart_Rap

I'm going to video right now.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Well, last night I had my printer going 100 mm/sec with Reg's geared extruder at 210c with very good finish and not missing any steps. This produced the best looking print from it to date. Very shiny and solid. This also got rid of all the stringing while moving to positions. The z rods do shake a little at this speed, and I had my retraction set to 0 afraid that I would strip the filament. I'llby duranza - Smart_Rap
I have the stock plate and just had to slightly ream some material off. You can use 10-24 or 10-32, but I don't like how thin it is.by duranza - Smart_Rap
It all depends on the threaded rod selection. On mine i'm using 5/16- 24 all-thread and I get 1.058 mm per 360 deg revolution. ( I could not find M6 x1), so at a 16th micro step you should theoretically get a 66 micron resolution. Good luck getting it to repeat on the accuracy on crude all-thread though.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I have not tried it yet, but I have given real good thought about printing some once I get the whole bed accurately calibrated. I have a set of belts coming, but I'm planning to make a second smartrap to play around with.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I just bought a set of belts for mine. I agree that it will make a huge difference. I'll be printing the new plates with Reg's slot mod to attach the belts.by duranza - Smart_Rap
