Anybody have just the smartrap marlin file.. I've been trying to download from github but the whole repository takes for ever. I'm trying to get the auto level to work and I want to try a clean marlin fileby duranza - Smart_Rap
The hot end is wrapped in heat shield fiber cloth and I have the fan off. It is the first hot end that I started with. I've been messing around with it until I got the J-Head lite sorted out. The temperature difference would explain why my extruder kicks back. Maybe too much back pressure. How would I adjust the temperature to calibrate the thermistor?by duranza - Smart_Rap
The thermometer seems to work right, but when I heat up my first metal hot end to 180, the tip only measures 100C, I get 120C at the stainless rod that goes to heat sink. The supplier says in the Flebay page that it is a 100k EPCO and I have it set at 1 in marlinby duranza - Smart_Rap
Using an infrared thermometer on the brass tip of the extruder should show you the same temperature as in the screen right?by duranza - Smart_Rap
This is the G code in slic3r M109 S;set extruder temp and start heating G28; G1 Z1.5; G92 Z0; G29 ;probe bed G90; set absolute coordinates G92 E0; reset extruder distance G1 Z3 F3000; get out of the bed after probe G1 X77 Y77 F3000 ; move to center I have attached my configuration file tooby duranza - Smart_Rap
I can't seem to get auto bed level to work. Do you have to do it before every print with g code? Is G29 supposed to trigger the sequence? When I do G29 it only raises the z up and down to the stop and that is it.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I bought 3 ft of the tubbing and it did come inserted, but not all the way to the nozzle like it shows in the pictureby duranza - Smart_Rap
Well if the tube is supposed to go all the way down, it wasn't. it was stopping at the metal threaded rod. The hole is drilled off center and did not match the barrel hole.If you can't dissasemble it, how do you clear a jam?by duranza - Smart_Rap
Quotemadmike8 The tube it comes with goes all the way down in the barrel. You cut it off flush with the top of the ptfe holder. You will use a m4 nut on your 4mm ptfe tube to mount it to the hotend holder. So the small tube goes all the way down until the end of the Stainless steel threaded rod like this?by duranza - Smart_Rap
I'm using the lcd option where it says Z offset to adjust it, but It doesn't stay.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I do not have a thermometer. I wish I did. I'm going to try to load the original marlin that I was using with the other hot end to see.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Also Reg, I can't get your auto level to work. In fact, I cant get the regular z offset to work right. I get it to home but the extruder is too low and drags.by duranza - Smart_Rap
umm.. It never says it gets hotter than 180. I did set the thermistor to 7 like the manufacturer said. Also did a PID auto tuneby duranza - Smart_Rap
How do you get the pictures to show in the forum?by duranza - Smart_Rap
Ok i'm heating up the J-head lite to 180 and extruding with the lcd, but the pfte insert gets soft and the filament sticks to it and it jams. I know this is not normal. If I turn on the fan the temperature drops down 10 degrees and will not reach the target temperature.by duranza - Smart_Rap
The parts I got from flebay came with the mount for the big heat sink and fan.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Thanks Mark.. One more thing.. what are your PID settings for this hot end? The ones they recomend dont workby duranza - Smart_Rap
Ah... Nice so that's how you rotate.. Man I need to do a tutorial to get better at it. I use Solidworks at work, so it's kind of tough to switch. I see what I'm missing.. The end plate that I have doesn't have that fork to stop the nut. I'll have to see what I can do to make it work and print a replacement. Man I wish I had someone around my area that could hook me up to get started.by duranza - Smart_Rap
This is what I'm talking about.. What a Headache..by duranza - Smart_Rap
Easy huh.. I don't even know how to rotate the model in free cad lol.. Also I just received the J-head light and the tube it came with is way smaller than the 4mm od x 2mm id I was using before. How are you supposed to use it? This smaller tube bends and kinks too easy. It barely fits the 1.75mm PLA and when I make the bend in the smartrap I can barely push the filament by hand.by duranza - Smart_Rap
What software do you guys use to modify STL files? I'm trying to redesign the front plate where the hot end goes. Thanks, Jonathanby duranza - Smart_Rap
$85 just for the board looks high. If it was everything including lcd and drivers it would be a good deal.by duranza - Smart_Rap
Nice builds. Where do you get that controller? The all in one compact design looks awsome.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I do have a fan, but I suspect that the heat is traveling up too far. I have tried to enable auto fan, but it doesn't keep the heatsink cool enough. I have to keep it on all the time full blast. I will try the heating up high without the filament before printing until I get the J head. Thanks,by duranza - Smart_Rap
I was only able to print one part and then the hot end jammed. I went ahead and ordered a J-head lite. I had enough headache already. Those of you that are testing, how are Reg's hot ends working out? I might make one when he posts the dimensions and materials.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I was printing at 20mm/s and then reduced to 20% of that. I have some better news. I was really desperate and drilled the brass fitting with a number 78 drill and guess what? i'm finally printing a calibration print. pictures to come in a little bit.. What a relief.by duranza - Smart_Rap
I can feed it by hand, but it takes way too much force in my opinion. This might be why the stepper is strugling. Are you using a .4mm or a .5mm tip? I got a .4mm tip. I might try switching the side the extruder comes out so that the z axis rod is not in the way. This way I can make a straighter equal bend of the tube. You guys are awsome. I was feeling really dissaponited with all this problemby duranza - Smart_Rap
Ok. I have confirmed the steps per mm to be good. It is set in marlin at 91.23 steps per mm and it is right on. I did try to run at 20% feed rate and got some progress. It extruded some steady strands for about a minute then it started clicking/skipping steps again. I have verified that the temperature is within 1 degree of what it displays on the screen. I did also free up the bowden tube to letby duranza - Smart_Rap
This is what my build looks like. Everything went smooth with the assembly.by duranza - Smart_Rap
The stepper is set up at 900ma of current and it sounds great feeding through the tube, but as soon as it reaches the tip it extrudes a bit and then it stops and jams. Could it be that is trying to extrude too fast? I calibrated it by using the lcd menu and extruding 1mm and measuring and adjusting. Is there a better way? Before trying to run with the new heatsink, I cleared the stainless 6mm thrby duranza - Smart_Rap
